I got my new yearly Georgia State Park pass and decided to break it in on this beautiful park. This…read morewas my first time visiting here. It's gorgeous. I had my four dogs with me and they loved it too. There are many well marked trails of varying size so you can do a short walk or a longer one. It's pretty flat so it's not a hard walk. There is a large lake there and they have canoes and paddle boats available to rent. I also two people fishing. There is a country store and a historic mill that you can take tours of. I look forward to visiting again.

Georgia's Hamburg State Park…read more A nice small state park near Sandersville, Georgia. Very peaceful and scenic. The campground is on a peninsula so each of the 32 sites is waterfront to one extent or another. A large field area in the center of the campground had lots of large pine trees, pine straw on the ground, and was a nice area to walk our dog. As with all state parks in Georgia, when checking in don't forget to tell the ranger that you are seniors so they can give you the senior discount! This is only available when checking in. We were in site 9, a large and shaded pull through lakeside location with good views. Our parking site/pad was level although the lane from the road to it and from it was slightly sloped and lined with trees. I like the movable picnic table here that some Georgia parks now have. Our pebble paved site had the usual fire pit as well as a grill and campsite hanging pole. There are no sewer hook-ups at Hamburg, but there is the usual dump station near the campground exit. The sole bath house/laundry was directly across from our site. It was a newer design and retively well kept. The laundry equipment looked to be relatively new. The camp store is quite small but has the necessities such as ice and firewood as well as shirts, hats and other park related items. Pedal boats, Jon boats and canoes are available to rent. Fishing is permitted in the lake but swimming isn't. The staff we encountered were friendly and informative. There are 4 hiking trails, a playground, a boat ramp and an old grist mill (that was not open for tours when we we there in mid- October). We had our e-bikes but none of the nature trails really lent themselves to riding them on this trip. Historic Sandersville is about 15 miles away and has just about everything one might need or want. We enjoyed the country cooking lunch buffet at Chester Dean's restaurant in downtown Sandersville. If you enjoy peace and quiet and nature Hamburg State Park is a place you ought to visit.
