There is SO much to see here. You move at your own pace and take as much time as you'd like. I think it might be nice if they offered tours since it's three stories, but it's definitely not hard to figure out and you aren't missing things if you don't go in a certain order. My favorite was the third floor where you could look outside and see all of the air planes. (There is no longer a cafe up there. There used to be!) We had all age ranges from 75 to 11. I think everyone enjoyed it. The gift shop was really cool and I was able to pick up some "souvenirs" from my home town. We did not encounter many employees except when we entered the building. That lady was super friendly and helpful. There was plenty of parking and this is FREE...so please check it out!

There is a lot to see. The first entrance has 3 floors to visit and there is 2 more hangars to go and see all the old planes and on top of that there were multiple planes across the property where we can drive by and visit everything. I would recommend to visit this place where you have a full day. On a Sunday it's open only from noon to the 5pm. Over all it's a great experience and there are friendly veterans who could help you where you want to go and any questions that want answers for it. Will come back again for sure with bigger group.

The other is because you are interested in Flannery O'Connor. o'Connor lived and worked here between 1951 and death in 1964. Her mother left the house and moved into town after O'Connor's death. As a result, the house is pretty much in the condition that it was when she was living and riding here. O'Connor's stories and novels evoke Southern culture, and interweave complex ideas about religion, education and human relationships. However, this isn't the place to do a literary review. I think anyone who has been enchanted by O'Connor's writings would find a visit to Andalusia fascinating. As for the rest of you, I would say it's a good stop for an hour just to walk around the grounds. And it's free, except for the house tour, which is quite reasonably priced. The visitor center also has clean restrooms.

I really enjoyed the tour of Flannery O'Connor's farm. Even if you aren't a fan of the Southern…read moreauthor, it's worth a visit because the grounds are beautiful. The farm is also pet-friendly with the exception of inside the house. Tours start at 10am Tuesday through Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. My tour lasted about 40 minutes. The farm is closed on Mondays. You park next to the Interpretative Center where you purchase tickets in the gift shop. They have a small museum-like exhibit displaying Flannery's dresses and glass figurines. There is a short uphill walk from the Interpretative Center to the house and they have a golf cart available for those who do not wish to walk there. The tour meets at the back of the house. There are a couple of steps you have to walk up to get inside so it is not wheelchair friendly. The tour guide was informative and it's really interesting in part because so much of her furniture and belongings are still there. I would say two hours to three hours would be the perfect amount of time to take the tour and see the outbuildings and fenced in peacock pen. I would definitely return again to let my dogs explore the nature trail and to have a picnic next to the pond. Afterwards I also drove by the house where Flannery's mother grew up and where Flannery lived briefly as a teenager at 311 West Greene Street in downtown Milledgeville. Flannery is buried at Memory Hill Cemetery. I can't wait to visit Flannery's childhood home on 207 East Charlton Street in Savannah.

During the years the name of the institution changed as it grew; Georgia State Sanitarium, Milledgeville State Hospital, and Central State Hospital to name a few. Although no longer in operations the old buildings still stand; making the CSH a great place to drive through to see some of Georgia's dark and fascinating history. Although you are not suppose to explore the grounds or go in the buildings, there are a few brave souls that have since the hospital ceased operations. You can find many references online to CSH with some wonderful photos from the past to the present. So next time you are in Milledgeville take a ride to the southside and check out the Central State Hospital.
