I really enjoyed the stay here. Initially I was looking for a property for myself, my elderly father, and our dog to stay overnight. Lockview was pet friendly, and had a $30 charge for pet cleaning- totally fair. Ultimately, I ended up travelling alone, and the staff removed the pet fee and had my room ready early for check in. The staff is GREAT. It's an older but updated property, and I was able to stay in one of the connected cabins- really cool. Parking was parallel to the door, so close parking was like... 5 feet away from my driver's side door. Push button electronic locks with daily rotating codes- it felt very safe. The cabin was nice and clean, smelled clean, and the furnishings were nice. No caroet, which I prefer- vinyl plank. I enjoyed the round coffee table and the barrel chairs. Made it nice to get some work done not having to sit on a bed, (which would not have been ideal at all since they are raised) at a desk, or in a wingback with no matching height table. Water was hot, TV was great, and the only hiccup was a bad TV HDMI cable which maintenance fixed with a new one in under 15 minutes. If you are looking for a 5 star luxury resort, Sault Ste. Marie is probably not the best destination for you, and the Lock View isn't the hotel for you. But, if you like a cute city with a rich maritime history, it definitely is a destination for you and you must stay at Lockview. Location, location, location! Lockview is on a main road (still quiet at night) and once you arrive you can walk to several restaurants, cute shops, and best of all the Soo Locks are right across the street. The Lock View offers a motor lodge type hotel or cabin, we chose a cabin because we were bringing of dogs. They are definitely dog friendly and only charge a one time $40 cleaning fee, not a per dog per night price. The only thing they require is that the dogs are not in the rooms when the cleaners come in, they don't want your dog to take off when they open the door. The room we had was carpeted around the beds but the rest of the room is a hard surface floor which is perfect for dogs. The room also had a mini fridge and microwave crowded as well as a coffee machine. They offer free breakfast, we never ate there so I'm not sure what it consists of. While to rooms aren't fancy, they are clean, quiet, and comfortable. There is also plenty of space to take the dogs out so they can do their business. I don't know what f the couple that checked us in are the owners, but they were so nice and helpful, explained everything regarding pets when we checked in and when we had a minor snag with our room, they were quick to fix it and get us a different room. Even though this isn't a 5 star resort, you will get 5 star service and the location is so great, I had to give 5 stars. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend. read more

The hotel is right across the street from the locks and next door to the Lockview Restaurant. That was very nice for dinner and breakfast. We did not eat at the hotel for breakfast because we wanted something more substantial, so I can't comment on the food. The only problems we had with the room were minor. They did not have an area, or a stand, that was big enough to open our suitcase. Also, there is limited shelf space in the bathroom. Additionally, don't expect to actually "view" the locks. On the positive side, they have a nice little set up of a table and two chair outside the room on the walkway. These are outside every room. It is a nice sitting area, but the view is really just the parking lot and the street. I would probably give the hotel a five-star review if they had an elevator. We were on the second floor, and I have some mobility problems, so that made things a little difficult, but we made it work. You just have to walk out of the parking lot, and you can see them and, as I said, they are right across the street, so they are a very easy walk. The "name brand hotels" in the Soo are nothing special. I have stayed in most of them for business. We decided to check out a "no name hotel" and we would definitely stay here again. read more

Our room was on the first floor, queen bed. Room clean. Bed comfortable, bedding nice. Room comes with one bed side lamp and fluorescent tube light at ceiling. It has a refrigerator, microwave , table, tv and one chair. We had a great selection of cable channels so we were able to watch Tigers playoff game and Red Wings game. We love the location across from viewing stand and center for the Soo Locks and their Lockview Restaurant. Great food there! We stay here because of the convenient location. Would appreciate a few more comforts like another lamp and chair. Cannot eat at table with two people and one chair. read more

This motel has been kept up nicely and the staff is very friendly. The location is awesome! The reason for two stars is that you can't get a good nights sleep here because of wannabe bikers staying in the cabins. They were riding through the parking lot until 3:00 AM. From what I'm hearing this is the rule and not the exception. read more

Absolutely horrible management, also NOT pet friendly. They say they are however will charge you for every little thing in addition to a pet fee. Do not book here unless you are looking to end up getting charged double. Plenty of other nice establishments in the Sault that will be worth your money. read more

What a stay. We were so happy with this place. The room was inviting, comfortable and extremely clean. The staff was pleasant and professional. The breakfast in the restaurant was great. Stayed here 13 years ago and stayed here over the summer of 2018. If you're driving on a vacation up to the Sault Ste. Marie region this is the place for you. Right across from the locks, and write on a main street where you can walk up and down and see all the good stuff. The hotel itself is very clean and neat, very basic continental breakfast in the morning, and you park right outside of your motel room. Tiny little bathrooms, fairly low shower head, but excellent water pressure. The rooms that have air conditioning, it was excellent. Right next-door is an awesome restaurant, exactly one building to the west. There is also a crêpe shop about four shops to the west, they were phenomenal. We would certainly be staying here again anytime we're on vacation. I would stay here again even if I had a huge pile of money. The ambience is just excellent. read more

Location can't be beat. We walked straight across the street and watched the freighters go through the locks. Hotel is a good value but is outdated. Clean room with zero frills. No pool or common area. If you are staying for 1-2 nights to see the locks and need a place to sleep it is perfect. Not good for people that plan to spend a lot of time at the hotel or anyone with high expectations. Reminds me of a old school motor lodge you would visit with your grandparents as you drove cross country. I would stay here again. read more

Booked this place way in advance and read the reviews but it is near the locks and Canada. We get in around 6pm and get the key. The room is absolutely trashed. Beds unmade and the Lenin's are on the floor, trash everywhere. I go up to the office and tell the lady and she says yeah so what, I'm not going to clean it. She the downgrades us to a smaller bed and room but refuses to refund anything. The next room is simiclean but I'm exhausted so I use the bathroom and flush and water pours out of the bottom of the toilet. I'm told, this will be the last room so nothing better be wrong. This room is smelly and has human hair on the floor and bed. Guess they double as a dirty barbershop. This place is nothing but a dated tourist trap. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room was clean and comfortable, great location, directly across from the entrance to the park, and staff was very friendly and welcoming. My cottage room had two queen beds, a double sink vanity, lots of room. Equipped with a decent sized refrigerator, small microwave, and coffee pot. Enough room directly in front of my room to park. Very convenient for loading and unloading. Very quiet. Lots of places to easily walk to for dining, shopping and history. I look forward to returning very soon! I would Highly recommend this motel. I love finding these little gems. We had a cabin which was clean, quiet and comfortable. There was a faint odor to the place but with openable bathroom and main room windows, with screens no less, it was soon gone. The breakfast didn't have anything unprocessed so we passed on it but that's standard these days. read more

Our family vacationed in Michigan recently and we had the opportunity to visit Sault Ste. Marie. Decided to stay overnight and was given a recommendation to the Askwith Lockview Motel. Think of this place as strictly a motel only. No frills (they do provide a very basic continental breakfast). There are individual cottages and a two story building with individual rooms. We were given a cottage which was neat and clean. Beds were fine and a mini-fridge was included. Had breakfast the next morning. Due to allergy concerns, we had a few questions about some of the food items. Unfortunately, the front staff could not help us with the questions. Would we stay there again? Maybe, maybe not. Great spot if you're looking to spend 1-2 nights. Right across the street from the locks. I could see the freighters coming in from my room and could head across the street in enough time to see the whole process. It's also within walking distance of all the restaurants downtown. Pros: LOCATION! We walked everywhere in downtown from here. Price was good for a Sat/Sun stay in September. Free breakfast and WiFi. The staff was nice. Everything was clean and there were no issues with the room. Cons: Location...being right across from the Locks, there were always ships horns going off. Smokers right outside our room. As non-smokers in a non-smoking room it was very frustrating to have the smell of cigarettes wafting through day and night. I wish there were sheers for the front window. It was just a curtain and with the windows being open for the fresh air, we didn't feel comfortable with leaving the curtain open while we were napping. We stayed here for a mini vacation and rented one of the cottages. Staff was friendly, rooms were clean and the beds were comfy! Breakfast left a little to be desired, but it was free and enough to get you through the morning until lunch! Great location! Highly recommend! read more
