A great place with a beautiful view & perfect to get out & stretch your legs or eat some lunch during a trip. Also great during the summer to pack a bathing suit & make a day trip out of the area. There's plenty of signage & usually a crowd or DNR officers (depending on the time of year). Lovely view & worth a stop! Fort Payne is also close & very cute/perfect for a quick stop & shop or some lunch. They decorate for the holidays & they've done a lot of work on the downtown area so it's very enjoyable. Definitely a community worth seeing!

Amazing trails, hiking, bring your own kayak or boat, great wildlife. There is a small fee for the day I believe it's $5.00 it's alcohol free park and there's always plenty of Park Rangers there that are very nice and very helpful.

Just looking out, everything seems so small in comparison to the cliffs, rocks and depths. I can't describe any of this wonderment. You have to go there and see it for yourself. Instead of spending money to travel out of country/state, take an Alabama tour and experience home grown beauty. I love this place!

What a treat it was! We came through searching for great fishing spots but found a "Ma and Pa"…read moreshop. As we entered the store, we were greeted so warmly by the owners. When we asked to kayak, they apologized because when it rains they do not rent them out. This is now due to a few younger people having to have rescue called out. In my opinion, this is such a great policy! After addressing our fishing needs, we paid them and was shocked to find out how cheap everything was. We left from there and looked at the campsites. We decided IF we go camping this year, this will be the first place we visit! Overall, Yellow Creek Falls Fish Camp is my favorite small town bait shop. Can't wait until we get to go again!

Menlo Park is a modest community space that mixes recreation with remembrance. Depending on one's perspective of the war, the placement may feel either like history woven into daily life or an uneasy reminder of conflict watching over children at play. The statue is impossible to ignore, and its presence adds a layer of complexity to what might otherwise be a simple town park. Beyond the monument, the park offers several family‑friendly features. The playground equipment is in good condition, with slides and climbing structures that give kids plenty to enjoy. A picnic pavilion with tables sits nearby, though the restrooms were closed for the season during my visit. The mulch base beneath the play area is especially thoughtful, making it easier for toddlers who are still learning to keep steady on their feet. Taken together, Menlo Park is both a place for play and a site of remembrance, its dual identity making it distinctive but also complicated for visitors. ~First review of 2023~…read more I'd give this park maybe a 3.5. There are so many great parks where I live in Gwinnett County that can be relied upon for cleanliness, available bathrooms, picnic areas, and that are overall great for functions and gatherings, I've gotten spoiled. This was my first time up to Rome on January 2nd, and maybe things were in the condition that they were due to it being the day after a holiday (short staffed or just employees not back to work yet). However, the first thing I noticed about this park is that the bathrooms were filthy and not maintained. There were several stalls, but maybe only one or two were functional and not clean but acceptable. Most of the toilets were overflowing. Tampons and paper littered the floors. It was just not an appealing first time experience because of the bathroom situation. Additionally, there only seemed to be sanitizer inside the stalls and no working sink nearby. So this added to the feelings of filth. You could flush most (not all) of the toilets, but even then you'd have to press the buttons really hard. Getting past the bathrooms, there were several picnic areas, nice views of the Oostanaula River (which I'd never heard of, but thanks to Google now I have), at least three different play areas for the kids, a seemingly nice set of trails to wander, a stage for performances, and ample parking. Overall, the park itself was nice, but it seems like a better place for locals and not really convenient if you're from out of town. If you don't mind the filthy restrooms or are fine with stopping at a gas station on the way in or out, then I'd recommend this spot just to walk or picnic at or to bring the kids to play. If you live in the area, obviously, just go at home, if you prefer. For me personally, it was a nice place to stop and have lunch at after a long drive, but I think "when in Rome" I'll just go straight to Berry College next time which is what I really would like to check out in the area and see if there's an outdoor space to just eat there while visiting.

Mushroom Rock - Not actually an overlook, Mushroom Rock is an unusual natural formation that rises literally in the middle of Canyon Rim Drive. The roadway divides to pass around it. A number of other unusual rock formations can be seen in the immediate area. Mushroom Rock is a rock formation found in the middle of Highway 176. The rock is shaped like a giant mushroom. It has also been known as Needle Eye Rock due to the slot in its base. The story is that several decades ago, a road crew constructing the original scenic drive is credited with saving this canyon landmark. Plans called for the rock formation we now call Mushroom Rock to be removed. Construction staff refused to blast it away. The crew built the road around it instead. Thanks to the determination of the crew to leave the formation intact, we now have Mushroom Rock in the national preserve. Across from Mushroom Rock is a series of rock outcrops. This is a great place for novice climbers or children to get their first taste of rock climbing.
