I would consider this park a hidden gem. My husband and I found a trail in one of our hiking books & decided to come here. It's about an hour & a half drive from North Atlanta. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. The road to enter the park looks like a street of houses, but keep going and you will find the park. There are two lakes where you can fish, a playground, campsites, cottages, and hiking trails. There is also the beautiful marble mine waterfall that's less than a mile away from one of the parking lots. We did a roughly 4 mile loop and enjoyed our hike. We definitely would consider coming back here to get away from the city and relax for a day.

We enjoyed a great weekend at the park and stayed two nights in one of the cottages. It is very well maintained and the staff was very helpful. The cottage was clean and roomy with a good layout. We hiked the marble mine trail and fished in the lakes. There is good cell coverage, but no wifi, so if you want to use devices watch your data plan. The cottages also have satellite tv and nice cool air conditioning (a must in Georgia in July). The fishing was not great as it appears these lakes get a lot of fishing pressure, but we did catch some and had a great, low stress weekend.

We had originally planned to go to Toccoa Falls, but apparently it's closed due to COVID. That was a bummer, but it wasn't hard to find another fun little day trip for the family! I was pretty excited to try this place out since caves are much, much cooler than the god-awful southern summers. Plus, the promise of a "waterfall" was too tempting. Let me just go ahead and mention that I'm 8 months pregnant, so I'm much more limited in general than most people who would do the marble mine trail. This trail was not "easy to moderate." It was EASILY moderate to hard. It's rocky and uneven, and at an incline about 80% of the time. It's a legit workout, basically. My husband is in great shape and thank god because we took a stroller and this is NOT a stroller trail at all. He looked like he was in one of those CrossFit competitions pushing tires or something. I repeat: do not attempt with a stroller, lol!! They do have drink vending machines out there, but water was sold out. Thankfully we were prepared with that, but be sure to have snacks and water because it's a little drive to the nearest gas station. The park is beautiful and everyone is friendly, so I highly recommend it, but know that at least the marble mine trail is tough and not wheelchair or stroller friendly.

James H Floyd State Park is a beautiful park with a great lake view. What brought me here is the Instagram picture of the mine and small waterfall. It is Autumn so I was excited to check out the park. Since it IS a state park, there is a $5 parking fee or if you have the annual pass. You could also rent paddle boats and kayaks. There is camping. The welcome center has outgoing workers. It's small but good enough. It is located in Northwest Georgia in a town called Summerville. Just take 75 North, it will be like another 45 minutes or so before you will see it. When you see the sign and turn, you would think you are in the wrong area cause of a neighborhood but you are in the right area. You just keep going and go until the road ends like in 3 miles. I decided to come on a Thanksgiving. I called the day prior to make sure they were open. I mean, I felt that they were. However, I would never think someone was actually working on Thanksgiving! Talking the worker, I told him I was interested in the photos I saw on social media. He handed me a trail map and said, I'm sure you are talking about this and he pointed to the picture. He was right! I guess most people come to the park for this IG worthy pic! We just had to cross the bridge across the lake to get to the hiking destination. There are more trails but I'm all about views. The leaves pretty much covered most of the trail too. It's a short trail, honestly. It's roughly 1 mile so roundtrip is only 2 miles. While walking on the Marble Mine Trail, which is the name of the trail for the destination, you will see two outback bathrooms like back in the days. The leaves covered a lot of big rocks and we weren't able to see it and we had to be careful where to step on. When we finally got to the mine, I have to admit, I was a little underwhelmed. However, it was still nice to have visited the park because the park itself is beautiful. James H Floyd State Park is still worth seeing and saying you have gone. I think camping would be fun here. 93/2018

One of the. Eat state parks in Georgia. If you have never visited Sloppy Floyd state park you have missed out on a jewell. Come and camp or stay in cabins, take an easy hike up mountain to the Marble Mine.

We love this park! It has wonderful trails for my dogs and they always have something fun going on. Staff is very friendly. It's a beautiful park. You can rent water crafts or bring your own. The mining trail is very cool. Absolutely would recommend.

My first visit here. Park is very well maintained. Very pretty setting with a lake and various difficulties of trails to choose from. We hiked the marble mine trail, part of Jenkins gap trail and the upper lake loop. Brought our kayaks and did a little fishing also. Enjoyed our cabin stay.

I had the pleasure of visiting Paradise Gardens when The Reverend was still alive and even got to sign his casket he hand painted which was on display at the time for all to see. An "outsider artist" not to be confused with folk artists he is completely untrained. Yes his REM album cover shot him to a lot of fame and he did another album cover maybe the B 52s? I believe it was an Athens GA based band. And his famous coca cola art and has others have referenced he has a permanent display at the High Museum in ATL. So not too shabby! The gardens are stunning in their down to home feel and do with what you have mentality which strikes a very stark contrast with his signage all done in capital print about how specifically stole what piece of art or to look out for (insert children's names) who will copy his art and claim it at their own. This place is a must see. I didn't have the pleasure of actually meeting Howard. The time there was wonderful and his home (not open to the public at that time) was humble. I bought a piece of his art which I still treasure and delight in his simplified messages of good and evil in his outsider art. God put it on his heart to do a certain number of pieces before dying and I think he suppasssed the number producing something like 20+ thousand works. All signed and with his personal icon of a dove with a branch in it's mouth. I saw a YouTube of him dancing and singing on a late night show in the 80s or 90s. Howard was full of life, full of the Lord and full of himself. A larger than life figure. I'll upload photos soon Rest in peace and rise in glory Sir, I'm certain you are dancing with Jesus and making God so proud you honored Him and definitely spread His kingdom on earth. Thank you for sharing your God given gifts! I

Howard Finster. My first visit was back when Reverend Finster was still alive and they still had quite a nice selection of his art available for purchase and everything was still in pretty pristine shape. The years have caused some deterioration of Paradise Garden but there are now efforts underway to preserve and maintain this amazing collection. This is one of the most fun and quirky displays of American folk art you can experience anywhere. Even if you think you've never heard of Rev. Finster you probably know some of his art so prepare yourself for surprise and amusement. My video review of Howard Finster's Paradise Garden is here: https://youtu.be/1DMCR5jk12Y
