Most beautiful campground I have ever been to. We've been going every year for the last 8 years. The campground is located in a canyon next to the Marble Fork of the Kaweah. Near the campground entrance is a visitor's center, a store, a couple food places, a laundry and coin operated showers. Nice hot showers! Each section of the campground has bathroom facilities that are cleaned every day and kept in good repair. Real flush toilets, not vault toilets. At the side of the building is a sink for washing dishes. Each campsite is provided with a capacious bear box where you keep all your food and toiletries. They do have a bear patrol who will write you a ticket if you leave stuff sitting out or trash around because there are bears and they don't want them getting a taste for people food which is bad for them. You can see beautiful rocky peaks at the head of the canyon where Tokopah falls are. They're around a slight bend so you have to go on a hike to see them. There are many 'postcard' views along the trail. Giant Forest is only a couple miles away and there is a trail you can take there. We did that one year and hitched a ride back to camp on the shuttle bus after hiking around giant forest. The only issues we've ever had have been because of messy and inconsiderate campers. read more

We booked the exact site we wanted the day it was available and it was everything we wanted. We followed the bear rules, and that all went fine. There are also waterfalls and swimming holes at the end of the upper lodgepole circle which were beautiful and invigorating, but quite slippery. The store was really convenient but pricey to be expected, and the on-site dining options were great. The only downside was the bugs were bugging us all but a couple hours out of the day, even with campfire and bug spray. That's the only downside we saw. I think the only people that wouldn't be able to handle going are people with a severe fear of bears. Otherwise...Go! read more

Stayed here just before winter. It was amazing! The campgrounds are well kept. There are fire rings, bear boxes, tables, whatever you need. When we pulled in there was a baby bear just off the road that people were checking out. (I would never recommend this because the mother is usually not to far off and violently protective). When we woke up there were multiple deer just hanging out in our site. The weather, air, night sky were all amazing. Sequoia is beautiful and one of my favorite places to go. The trees are unbelievable! be sure to check out the Crystal Cave there too! Beautiful cave they have there to explore. read more

Nicest campgrounds I've probably ever been to and I've been camping for 20+ years in the sierras. We visited mid September, temperatures were about mid 40°s at night and I was so excited when I had to use the women's restroom in the middle of the night and I found it had a heater in the ceiling! The general store was right down the road and had everything you could need! We were there during some pretty close fires so we were not permitted to hand a fire of our own understandably. Moro rock was a short drive to get to and a very beautiful but scary climb if you're afraid of heights like me. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. read more

This was my first time camping outside with no electricity and with that said Lodgepole did not disappoint. The drive up from LA mid afternoon on a Friday in October was seamless, it took about 4.5 hours. It's the end of season so we could not make a reservation and it was first come first serve. We were lucky to find a site in the very back in the 180 area. It was near the bathroom and that was convenient. This time of year was ideal.. although cold we made it work with a big camp fire, a propane heater, and lots of wine. There is a cute store with a more than decent selection and moderate prices given the lack of places to get stuff. I showered and the water was hot with great pressure, you get 3 minutes for $1.00 so bring quarters. There is also a laundry. Overall, loved it and can't wait to return read more

Nice camp, our site is a little bit more secluded than the rest. I wish they cleaned the restrooms daily, though. Also considering the campground hosts a lot of people, the showers are very few. There's always a line esp in the afternoon to evening. The location is nice. There is a huge boulder where we stargazed & the camp is also next to a river. I stayed at this camp ground over the weekend. It's close to everything. They have restaurants, gift shop, shower, bus stop that take you everywhere (it's free). We stayed at site #16. It's very shaded but it has no pinic table. I'm not sure why but it was a little bit inconvenient. Don't stay around camp 1-5 or so because it's very close to the road. You will se car drive by every min, even big buses. The further away from the main road the better. It is close to a creek/ river. You can bring swimming suit and chill there if you want but the water is very cold. We didn't drive anywhere once we parked at the campsite. I take buses everywhere because the parking is a hassles. Buses come every 10 min or so, I don't recall waiting longer than 10 min for buses. We took road 198 to get to the campground. It was a very scary drive. My boyfriend did all the driving with me praying next to him. Im a little bit of a scared cat. So try to sleep when you get to the mountains road if you get scared easy like me. read more

We had so much fun at Lodgepole campground. The creek at the campground provided lots of entertainment. We eventually found a good place to wash our dishes. The camp store is convenient. There are great hikes out of the campground along with the other things to see and do at Sequoia. read more

We've been staying at Lodgepole campground for a few years. Last year was awesome as we stayed at site 101 which is wonderful unless you are hyper-sensitive to a small river/ stream running by your camp site. Then I wouldn't recommend it. The campground also has a store/ deli which is expensive so stock up in the valley before you head uphill. The camp store also has showers ( $1 for 3 minutes) and laundry. Also the Entry fee into the park went up $10 this year. This is separate from the cost of the campsite ($22 / night). We stayed in site 45 this year which was a walk in site just after the check in booth. Don't pack heavy stuff as the walk in is a long haul. It is shorter if you park (temporarily) near the RV sewer dump station and cut across the day use site. Why did I mark it a 4 star? This year a group camped out in the day use site and partied until 1 am. No rangers came by to quiet them down or ask them to leave. When wifey mentioned this to the rangers the next day, they just laughed at her and said "sorry". The store was nice as well but the food is expensive. read more

Date of visit: 09/11/19 First time ever tent camping in a national park/forest. What an incredible experience. Loved that the campground was centrally located - very close to Gen. Sherman, Auto Log and Drive through Log by car. Our site was very close to the visitor center which had showers, laundry facilities and bathrooms. There also were bathrooms within our group of sites. No bears were spotted while we were there, but we followed the directions regarding use of the bear boxes and made sure our site was free of garbage. Loved waking up to crisp temps (37F)- thankfully we were fully prepared. Would love to go back and do it again, but spend more time. read more

Stayed in walk-in site #70, right by the river. Great campground with very clean facilities. Neighbors were courteous, and the stars were beautiful at night. Don't be dissuaded by the size of this place. Our campsite felt secluded enough in Nature, we were able to relax at night after a day of hiking in Sequoia. Super convenient store, shuttle service, and there's even a short hike leading to a waterfall right within the campground. Would DEFINITELY stay again. read more

You're not much of a camper, but you get talked into going camping here for Labor Day weekend. When you arrive, it's pretty. There's a creek nearby. Your friend, who's been there for a few days already, tells you that it gets so cold at night that you're going to cry icicles. You laugh. You're smug because you've borrowed some hardcore camping gear from a friend. Neighbors come by and say they nearly froze to death the night before. But there they are, alive, standing in front of you, so you think, "how bad could it be?" You've checked the weather online, and it said 93 high / 59 low. Because the rangers have told you that bears come into the campground every day, you gather up all the food you brought and empty your car of other things that smell like chapstick, mints, and hand sanitizer. Everything into the bear box. When you see how packed the bear box is, and realize that your toothbrush is way in the back behind a 40 pound cooler and multiple bags of chips and stuff, you start to realize how hard this is going to be. On your first trip to the bathroom, there's a cleaning crew working. Whew! Clean bathrooms! You wait until they're done and then go inside. They're reasonably clean, but you find that they're just 4 stalls and 2 crappy little sinks that only run ice cold water while you're holding the spigot. There's no hand soap. "That's okay," you say to yourself. I'm camping. Still, though--you search in vain through the bear box for your hand sanitizer when you return to the campsite. You decide to have your first meal at the dining area by the visitor's center because everyone's anxious to get onto a trail. The traffic in and around the parking lot of the visitor's center is complete chaos. You now know that 1/2 the population of California is in Sequoia this weekend. You run in while your friend waits in the car and order a turkey burger. It takes a long time to get it, but it's decent, and you're grateful for the convenience. You and your friends want to go see the Sherman tree. Good luck. So does everyone else. After a half-hour in the car trying to park / get anywhere near it, you give up and slink back to your campground. Never mind, your group says! Let's just hike! You go on your first hike--an easy 4-miler that starts at the campground. It's pretty. You're happy. You're glad you came. You sit on a rock with your good friends in the sun, gazing at the beautiful view. Life is good. For now. You and your friends get back to camp. You negotiate the bear box and get out all the things you'll need to make dinner. As soon as you start preparing dinner, you're swarmed by yellow jackets. "Don't swat at them!" your friend says. So you start talking to them as if they're your dogs. "Go away," you say. "This food isn't for you." They don't listen. Your friend tells you in advance "By the way, we're not cleaning anything tonight because the water to clean dishes is freezing and sprays all over the place." It's starting to get colder outside after the hot afternoon. You put on another layer and hang out by the fire. You have some wine. You're happy again. You think about your cozy tent, all the warm stuff you brought, and think "I'm going to be fine." You are a fool. After dinner, your friends pack all the dirty dinner stuff and the leftover food away in to the bear boxes again while you start to get ready for bed. The bathroom is now littered with wads of toilet paper and used feminine hygiene products. As you try to negotiate washing your face in the icy water, which only flows while you're turning the spigot, and there's no place to put your sundry bag so you squeeze it between your knees, you regret putting on mascara that morning. You do your best and return to camp with your icy hands. It's cold out now. You put on a hat. You think it'll be fine once you're inside your tent. Clearly, you've never spent much time in a tent before. Some neighbors start yelling "Bear!" and then a bunch of people are banging pots and pans on tables, making lots of noise. One of your friends says "the bear is probably running this way now!" You stare out into the dark, waiting, hoping you didn't accidentally drop any bits of food while making / eating dinner. One of your friends yells "Bear!!!" but no one else responds. "I thought I saw glowing eyes," she says sheepishly. You hunker down in your tent for the night, sliding into your cold-weather sleeping bag, covering yourself with a second down sleeping bag, and then throw a warm blanket on top of that. You've got a little air mattress. You're wearing a hat, gloves, 5 layers of shirts, a puffy down jacket, three layers of socks. You can't get warm. You wonder if you'll really cry icicles. You pray you won't have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The campground is quite quiet, but you don't sleep. You promise yourself you'll leave tomorrow. In the morning, after one last great hike, you pack up and head for the outlet mall on the way home. read more

This review is well over a year past due, however, I still gotta say that the 4 days I stayed here in Sequoia were quite pleasant. And quite spacious, as our 2 lots had plenty of room for four tents worth of people and much more room to sprawl out without anyone needing to sleep too close to the fire pit or to one another's tent. Sure, it's a large car camping site, though I was expecting to have to rough it a few days, so I made sure to bring a slew of canned food. Upon arrival, we entered the general store, a convenient less than quarter mile walk from our campsite, which to my surprise had every modern amenity that one would desire out in the wildness. So we bought some brats and beer and even a fresh cup of joe in the morning. There's showers too, which you have to pay for, but after a long day taking in the surrounding, vegging out, or exploring the nearby sites, you won't mind blowing a couple of dollars to get cleaned up. The only downside is that they close up the showers around 6 pm, so there seems to be a rush and line right before they close up. Nice and clean bathrooms with running water too. Being located in the middle of Sequoia National Forest, its also a central spot for a ton of hiking trails and peaks, kayaking, rocking climbing - anything outdoorsy really, you name it. Great campsite with some basic amenities that make for a comfortable stay with out roughing it , especially for a city dweller like myself. read more

Went here for the first time (mid-September) and loved it. We stayed at site 181. Very close to the bathrooms so people walk by a lot but we didn't mind. Site is very shady and the weather was a tad chilly so bring proper clothing. Even though this campground has tons of people, it's quite beautiful and serene. Didn't see any bears but woke up with scat next to our tent. Would recommend that you buy firewood from the market whenever it's available as we waited until after we were set up in the evening (~6pm) and they were out and didn't receive any until midday the following day. Also, we didn't realize Mist Falls was a 2 hour drive from the campground so we ended up hiking nearby to the Watchtower and it was absolutely incredible. Great 7 mile hike. Most of the negative reviews on here seem to have to do with trivial things (like the cold faucets, showers, etc) so don't let those deter you. My only real complaint is the yellow jackets that swarmed our breakfast; ended up eating in the tent but they're not a problem later in the day (in my experience). read more

I really enjoyed staying here! My first time at the sequoia park. I didn't expect rain but it did. Pack extra blankets and tarps! Also if you plan on brining your dog I suggest not to. Bears attract pets so I was always on edge with my little guy. Can't hike with them either. Check the kiosk for open available campsite #. Also you get no reception. They do have pay phones at the lodgepole market. I went up to Wuksachi Lodge for wifi but when I went up there they said their wifi was down. Make sure to take a map and take bug repellent!!! read more

Have been to Lodgepole before, and would give it 4 stars previously. This year, not so much. Here is what is great (in no particular order): 1. Elevation. At 6700' it is above a lot of the pollutants, and stays cool even when it is sweltering at 5,000 ft. 2. Water. There is potable, delicious drinking water available, and spigots are almost everywhere you look (except for a few sites). In a good year, the river provides a great refreshing dip, and the waterfall at Tokopah is a wonderful hike. (Not this year. There is NO water left in the falls and the Kaweah 'river' is a tiny stream and almost stagnant as of this date.) 3. Cleanliness. The park service and DNC do an amazing job keeping the campground clean, including the bathrooms. And I mean amazing, especially when you consider some of the visitors and what they leave in the bathrooms and at the campsites. 4. Sequoias: They are fairly close and some are within the campground. There is a relatively flat (100 ft. gain) hike of 2.8 miles from behind the amphitheatre which takes you to the Sherman Tree (largest tree by volume in the world). 5. Food: You can buy anything at the Market at the Lodgepole Village. 6. Visitor Center: Has a great book selection, and some displays which could use a little improvement, but they are informative nonetheless. Here is what is NOT great (again, no particular order): 1. Close quarters. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. There are over 200 sites here. You are bound to butt up against someone if you camp here in the summer. We felt like we were sharing quarters with the party of 8 next to us, and their friends who were technically camping at another site but 'visited' all night for three nights. 2. Smoking. Why is anyone allowed to smoke in the freaking center of wildfires? And of course, if your neighbor's smoking the sweet life, you are definitely getting a contact high. This could potentially be in the "Great" column if you are of that persuasion. 3. Music: I felt a little like I was at Coachella this past weekend, if Coachella were a competition. Jimi Hendrix, Ariana Grande, and Tim McGraw fought for domination on speakers the size of small children. What the what? It was a little like being at Zuma on a Sunday afternoon in July. 4. Bare-chested, fat, tattooed, middle-aged men carting multiple cases of Bud Light from the minivans to the camp sites. C'mon kids! 5. People: It is a very full campground. You have to be able to tolerate the hordes of people there. It is extremely beautiful in nature there. This summer there is very little water, and a lot of people getting very loud after 10 p.m. music is still blasting and people are drinking. It was hard to get sleep this year. read more

This is a very very very very very very crowded campground. Each campsite is extremely small and close together. We went in July 2016 and got campsites 166 and 167. I do not recommend these campgrounds. They were both super small. One of them had parking for one car only. It felt like a bunch of people hanging out in someone's backyard. The bathrooms were always crowded and there were tons of kids running everywhere. Booking on the site was difficult. Everything was fully booked within 20 mins of reservation windows being opened at midnight. Sequoia is beautiful but in the future, I will try to find a more secluded and less popular campground. read more

$20 a night, and you can reserve online. We booked a day before and got the last campground just off the main street that goes through the campground. I thought we were going to arrive to a lame site, but was pleasantly surprised. The campgrounds are meant for car camping, which is nice. Drive up to the campsite, and the unload is easy. There is a picnic table, a fire pit, and 2 bear lockers. You can have up to 6 people occupying a single campsite. We only had 2, but if we had more, we would have still felt secluded enough from our neighbors to feel as if we were camping. If you get deeper into the woods, up the river a bit, that's where you find the truly awesome campsites--these are the ones right on the river. We could hear the river rushing over rocks from our spot, but I imagine that these places right on the river are a completely different experience. From Lodgepole, you can walk to the visitors center/store/showers. Or you can hike an easy 1.7 miles to the falls nearby. Or, if you want to take it easy, you can simply walk down to the river and do as many of the other campers were doing and play in the rapids/lie on the rocks. Only cons is that sometimes the grounds could be a little rowdy, and the occupants a little savory. People here don't seem to respect the fact that leaving food out means bears will come (we did see a bear on the trail, and another was spotted bc some moron left an entire soft-sided cooler of food unattended). Bathrooms are acceptable, but dimly lit. But overall, as far as campgrounds go in a National Park, this one was pretty darned good. Next time I'll reserve earlier and try to get the prime spots next to the river and a little further away from the people. read more

This review is just for the showers. I stayed at a different campground and was told that this was the closes showers around. Came here and the showers are $1 for 3 minutes not bad, but the there was mold everywhere!!! Mold on the curtains, the wall and the floor. The floor was even slimy. They should really clean these showers being that this is where a lot of ppl come for shower. read more

This place is beautiful. My husband and I chose this site for our camping honeymoon ( yes, I willingly went camping on my honeymoon). Everyone was super friendly and helpful whenever we had a question. The air is so clean! I felt like I was experiencing AIR for the first time. The "friendly" wildlife (chipmunks, squirrels and birds) were funny to watch. We saw a couple of deer right next to our camp site. I highly recommend campsite 186. The back of this site is the forest and you only have neighbors to front and sides... which was nice at night. The comfort station is close by and it also has a water faucet on it ( so you don't have to invade your neighbors area to get water). There are numerous trails in the campsite, so you don't even have to leave to go on a hike, which is nice. The bus station is also close by if you want to go to General Sherman or to the Giant's Museum. For my first time camping, I'm glad we picked this place. read more

I've done a lot of camping in my day but never have I ever experienced a more beautiful setting for a municipal campground in my life. The winding drive up Generals Hwy continued to grow and grow in both height, forest growth, and elevation, and Lodgepole happens to be one of the highest campground in elevation throughout Kings Canyon/Sequoia. The staff onsite was readily available for help and they were all super, super friendly. As soon as we had pulled up at the front gate, the ranger pulled up our reservation (super easy to make online at nps.gov) and then we were off to our campsite. The grounds are just stunning. It holds all of the wild qualities that this slice of nature had before it became more domesticated. There are so many levels of the grounds and it makes for a fantastic place to explore, walk with the kids or dogs, enjoy during the day, and so on. It isn't just your typical boring camp where you just wait for the sun to go down, but rather there are plenty of hikes and surrounding fun at the Lodgepole. If you've yet to have your first experiences camping in northern California, you have to store all of your food in a steel bear box. The first few times I camped in California, bear bags were permissible, but it appears that they are no longer a viable option -- i.e. the bears are smarter now. The steel bear boxes are easy to use and they are located in every campsite on the grounds. Pro Tip: Store everything you have in these boxes that have a scent. Even your deodorant or toothpaste. The elevation at Lodgepole is pretty great -- roughly 6500ft. Thus, it'll get pretty chilly at night depending on the current weather, but plan to bring a winter grade sleeping bag. A 50º or summer bag may be too light for some. The grounds are super close to the Sherman Tree -- Maybe just over a mile down Generals Hwy. We took our trip to the tree really early in the morning when no one else was on the trail. I'd highly recommend it as we saw tons of wildlife. Even a 12-point buck. My goodness. Whenever we make our way back to Sequoia, this is definitely where we are camping. It was wonderful. read more

This was our first time camping at Sequoia and we were only there for a weekend, but we had a great experience nonetheless. Here are a couple reasons why: 1) Location - This campground location is best it gets in Sequoia/Kings Canyon. First off, there is a convenient market and restaurant located within walking distance from the campground entrance. Since the campground is pretty long and our campsite was farther back it was easier to just drive over there. The campground is also close to the main points in Sequoia, and easy access to the entrance of Kings Canyon as well. We also enjoyed how easily we could walk over to the trailhead for Tokopah Falls (a great day hike and an impressive waterfall!). 2) Great Campsites - The campsites are very spacious (we had 5 people) and there were multiple areas to place your tent. We also liked how the campsite was so close to the Kaweah River - we often headed down there to wade on the shores and relax under the shade of the tall trees. The great summer weather in July when we went made it amazing to star gaze at night as well. We were barbequing ribs and the large pits made it very convenient to move the meat around for cooking. 3) Friendly People - Everyone around is always happy to lend you something if you forgot it, help you with directions, or simply share experiences they had in the park with you. A couple nearby our campsite were glad to offer up their logs for us to use since they saw us burning firewood deep into the night. One thing I wanted to note was that there were no encounters with bears on our trip. We were pretty good with keeping our food locked up but it didn't seem like anyone else in the campground had seen any bears lately. Anyway, this is a great campground and I would recommend it to anyone who decides to visit Sequoia/Kings Canyon. The drive was around 5-6 hours from Orange County, short enough that we could make it to the campground easily before it got dark. read more

This was my first time camping. Im reviewing super late but as I'm looking for campsites (this was booked) I know how much I'd appreciate these reviews for other spots. We went in August 2012 for two nights during the Perseids. I'll never forget it. the views were breathtaking. The meteor shower was amazing. Lots of people, but being a family, that made me feel much safer. We were worried about bears but had 2 sightings that were no big deal. There were enough rangers always right on top of it. We brought my then 21 month old son with us and he had a blast. We did the hike up to Tokopah Falls. Rough with a kid on your back but do-able. The falls were pretty dry so that was kind of a disappointment but the view was still nice. they give you spacious bear boxes - USE THEM. I would absolutely do it again. The trail of 100 giants is nearby! do it! Words cannot describe the awe you get from these magnificent sequoias. reserve in advance because it's near impossible to get reservations in the summer without planning in advance.. way in advance. read more

We spent 3 days here and we had a lot of fun. Our campsite came with a firepit, picnic table with benches and a good size steel container called a bear box. Yes there are bears roaming around so you have to be very vigilante about keeping everything that might attract a bear in these boxes. We didn't see any bears so as long as your vigilant and don't leave food or anything scented out, you should be fine. You do have to use whatever firewood you can find there as opposed to bringing your own. We were directly on the river and were conveniently close to the bathroom.. not too close though. There was a spout for us to get water really close as well. We were surrounded by these gigantic sequoias that were serenely towering around us. We took a shuttle to the general Sherman sequoia which was breathtakingly huge. Even if you do take the shuttle, be prepared for a good hike to actually get to the tree. There's a museum and a visitor center with showers, laundry, and a souvenir/convenience store. Make sure to bring quarters or dollar bills if you plan to use the shower. There was also a cafe there if you weren't in the mood to cook. We went in August and they were completely booked. Make sure to book a site something like 6 months in advance. That's how we were guaranteed a reservation. read more

Upon arrival to check in, we were greeted by a pleasant park ranger who welcomed us with a nice smile. As I gave him my name, I was impressed to see how organized they were. I'm pretty big when it comes to being organized...:-) Drove to our campsite and was really pleased to how cute each site was. They had rocks lined around the fire pit to sit on and lined around the area where you would set up tent. Paths were created by the rocks that goes towards your site, to the restrooms, running water, and etc. Each site were far from each other and not cramped together like other sites I've been to. The bear food box was clean and big, it was able to store all our food, cooler and more. The restrooms were clean and well kept, the only thing I would like to add is some hooks for our things and maybe some more shelf type of deal to put our stuff on. Oh and warning...the water is FREEZING COLD, had to heat up some water to wash my face. The shower facility is at the visitor center, where you can find the market, cafe shop, cafeteria, laundry mat, and shower facility. Each shower costs you $3 for 10 mins (quarters ony), it was clean and a ton of hot steamy water. Lodgepole camping grounds sits right next to a river, it was great to hike along the river and sleep at night hearing the serene sounds of the water rushing by. A ton of deers come through the campsite. Overall, I shall definitely return to this campsite the next time I visit here. read more

Camped at site 202 which was huge ( 3 tables, 2 fire pits) tucked in the corner with no neighbors behind you. Easily can fit 3 tents. Stayed here for 4 days. Did no reservations since we arrived on a Thursday and by Saturday night all sites were full. Took pics of future campsites. Definitely coming back soon. read more

What an awesome place! first of all the rangers are very nice and helpful. This campsite has it all! a full market and I mean full market, ice cream shop, hot food, hot showers and clean bathrooms!!! They also offer shuttle service if you want to venture out of the campsite to other parts of the mountain. There's a beautiful river running thru it, awesome hiking trails, a visitor center with a small museum inside it, you can even buy tickets to visit the "crystal caves" which is worth seeing! And you're right up the rode from the "Sherman Tree". I need to mention the really cool hike along the river that leads you up to a beautiful waterfall! I have to say this was my favorite hike because at the end of our beautiful hike we were rewarded with not only this beautiful waterfall but we got to jump off of a huge boulder into the bottom of the waterfall and if your a dare devil and love an adrenaline rush.... Just got back home from three nights at Lodgepole. We were in campsite #17 and my friend had #16. It was our first time at Lodgepole so I wanted a spot near the village/market. Our spot #17 was large enough for our 8-man tent and a parking spot for one car. #16 has one small flat spot for a 4-5man tent and also has spot for one car. We were right next to the host, Patrick, who was super friendly and helpful. First night there were a couple of groups who stayed up past 10am with screaming kids but they must have left or got a visit from the park ranger. Other than that, the spot was pretty quiet. We were near the bathroom which was pretty clean. There is one small sink there where you can do your dishes (cold water only) but you can also do your dishes up the road (a trek or you can drive) and use the other bathroom facilities where there is a large sink for doing your dishes. There is a creek that you can walk over to for dipping your feet. I didn't see any fishes or anyone fishing there. There are parts of the creek where its deep enough where you (or your kids) can go swimming. The water was cold but not freezing. The park rangers were really friendly although some of them took their jobs too seriously ; ) If you have young children (older than 5), they have activities to earn them a junior ranger badge. All our kids got a badge. The village market has a small store and a sandwich/coffee shop. The market has a lot of your basic needs (even a smores kit). The village has a shower and laundry facility. Showers are $3 for 10 minutes. We did not use the laundry facility. There are shuttles that take you to most places but we drove our own cars. We visited Grant Grove, General Sherman Tree, Crystal Cave, Giant Forest, and King Canyon Visitor Center. My wife and I have Verizon and T-Mobile phones and there was no voice/data signal at Lodgepole (or anywhere near there). When we drove up to the Kings Canyon visitor center, there was Verizon signal (no T-Mobile). I would go back and stay there again. read more

So all my 24 years of life I have never gone camping, whaaaat? Decided to pop my camping cherry in Sequoia and it couldn't have gone better. The BF and I didn't make any reservations and pretty much just showed up... We arrived the Monday following father's day weekend and thought : uh-oh! what if we can't find a place to scamp?? luckily we stumbled upon Lodgepole, which was the only campsite that still had spots open. The rangers were super nice and accommodated our four-night stay, which were split into two different camp sites. The first campsite was perfect except for the terrifying snoring from our neighbors that we both swore was a bear lol. much bear so scare. The second site was closer to the river which means = mosquitos. Yup, dem skeeters tore up my BF's legs. There is also a large visitor's center nearby that has a market and a couple restaurants. Anywho, Lodgepole is close to all the places you would want to see in Sequoia, like Takopah falls, the giant tree forest, Morro rock, and even the cave tour. I am not an athletic person but I managed to do a lot of the trails (with minimal complaining). OH and we saw at least 12 bears and many many mannny deer. read more

We stayed during the week site 182 in a tent. It was pretty quiet in that loop. Deer came right up to the campsites every morning and evening. The rangers and staff at the store are always super polite and helpful. There's a short 1.7 mile trail to a waterfall that starts in the campground. The store has laundry and showers. Showers are 3 minutes for $1. They serve a few food items like burgers and ice cream. Overall great camping experience and will definitely be back. read more

Very beautiful campground and lots to do. The kids loved the 830pm daily activities at the auditorium. Plenty of stuff to do just do your research. Take water shoes for kids. Only reason 4 stars instead of 5 is because I emailed SEKI park service weeks before our trip and asked specifically about showers. They emailed saying the showers would be opened. We'll they were not which was terrible. No mask required except for the shuttle busses so come on really what's the issue opening the showers. read more

very well-organized and clean camping space, bathrooms, pool area, etc. there was a bar/restaurant open but since I went during COVID, I didn't feel safe or comfortable going in. the water is super cold and it looked shallow, so probably not too ideal for swimming as advertised. read more

We were fortunate enough to grab a campsite during NPS's 100 year birthday, so we were lucky to have free access to the park! We LOVED this campground and cannot wait to go back again. The bathrooms are pristine, rangers are helpful, not to mention the LOCATION! We were at site #146 along the river. The deli, store and showers are only about a 15 minute walk from the campground. Lots of swimming holes especially along the Tokopah falls trailhead. Waterfall was completely dry, but it was nice to take a dip in a mini water fall closer to the beginning of the trail head. We spotted a mama bear and her 2 cubs, so be safe! Can't wait to come back here, next time we want to grab a spot along the river in the tent only, hike-in spots, they looked magical. read more

We had a great time at Lodgepole. Our campsite, number 107 was great. Even for not being directly on the water, It was beautiful. Lots of trees, lots of privacy. Close enough to the water. Though we were not directly on the water, we were soothed by the sound and view of the water. The only thing I would negatively say is that there were 6 of us (3 couples)... Which is the limit capacity of how many people can camp on one site at a time. We were 3 couples, with 3 tents and had a very hard time finding a spot for the third tent. So keep that in mind. If you intend on camping here. Each campsite has limited space. The rangers here are what I would describe as friendly/strict. They would not let us set up a tent on our own site because it was just "a little too close to our out of bounds." So we had to set up the third tent hugging one of the other tents. Close quarters. Don't camp with too many friends. Also, they wouldn't let us set up hammocks because they said it would damage the trees. Ok... I guess I understand that. That being said... It was a very delightful campground. It was so pleasant. I've never experienced such a peaceful camping experience. I did not hear a sound from other campers. It was like being alone in the woods. You have to drive to the showers (on site) which is kind of annoying... But don't let that stave you off... The showers are clean and hot. They have mirrors and electrical outlets. Yep, you can use your hair dryer. The showers are connected to a store that has pretty much every grocery item you need... Plus extras... Lots of cute souvenirs... Maybe I'm silly, but I found a cute (and warm) pair of socks with owls all over them. I was so excited... And it also has a very very basic restaurant, but a restaurant none the less. Pizza, sandwiches, salad etc. So yes, I would camp here again... A river, beautiful sequoias, great facilities, and grocery/gift store, no invasion from other campers. Yes. read more

You can't get a better campground, it has everything you need (showers, general store, free shuttle to all the major hiking spots, even laundry). The only problem I have is they provide 24hrs access to the campgrounds, which means people coming in at 3am and setting up camp right next to you. I just experienced this problem last week, neighbor's were very loud. Told them to keep it down and they just kept on doing their business as usual. So I had a couple options: I could get into my car and drive all the way up to the Ranger station to complain and wait for the single Ranger to come down and tell them to keep it down, I could've kicked their @ss and gone to jail, or just suck it up and deal with it. Lodgepole is without a doubt my favorite campground. It can get a little busy late in the summer but, generally, it actually feels like you are visiting nature. Next to a river. In the trees. Listening to the river all night. But, still, with bathrooms and a general store for anything you forget. Remember to take a flashlight to the bathrooms at night, though, because they aren't lit and I often feel bad leaving someone there in the dark when I remember my light and they don't... Oh!
