It's a drump. When you first see it you think it's nice because it's a textile mill style loft on the river with a well staged sample apartment that they have you do a walk through of. But this place has so many issues. First the grounds aren't well kept. This is a very large complex that should have grounds maintenance daily. There's broken glass and dog poo everywhere. Then there's a so called trash concierge service you can pay extra for which is advertised as being daily trash pickup at your door. Sounds great right? Except that they only actually come once a week maybe or they'll come 3 days in a row and go MIA the next full week. So there's trash stacking up in the hallways for those who refuse to take it down themselves in absence of this so called concierge service. Oh and it's roach infested. You can ask for a spray service which helps with that but they should just be doing it for all apartments since they know the building is infested. Next there's the periodic emergency alarms that typically go off in the middle of the night when you're asleep jarring you out of bed and making your pets go crazy. This just happened again last night at 2am. Blaring ear piercing alarms in the apartment and the hallways for at least 40 minutes. So most residents take their pets outside to their cars to wait out them eventually coming to turn off the alarms. Oh and the elevators periodically break or are out of use so hot those stairs with all your bags. The interior of your apartment is in dire need of renovation. The walls are paper thin. I can hear everything my neighbors are saying and doing, everything. It's time to get out of this h-hole. There's much nicer options in the area. You've been forewarned. read more

I've been living here in Lofts at Riverwalk for about ten years and my experience keeps getting better, not worse. I still can't believe how well managed this property is. Ladies from the office could not be nicer and more helpful, especially the Manager, Ms. Savannah Cox. Chuck and Jacob from Maintenance team solve any problem in the "house" promptly, they really do a fantastic job. Some people complain about infestation. I don't have roaches, but I ask Pest Control to spray the loft a couple of times a year as a preventive measure. Most problems come from not-so-nice neighbors, be it not picking up after their dogs, disturbing the peace or going bonkers in many different ways. But they are not majority and I don't mean in Congress. Broken gates get fixed and then broken again. It is what it is. I am happy living here. read more

I've been living here for about 2-3 months now and I do not think it's worth the money. 2/3 leasing office members are kind, the gates are always broken and only worked for a few days since moving in, my apartment was not clean upon arrival, there was still damaged walls and dust, the floors are NOT glossed over (it is concrete with unevenness and holes) and living in building B is a NIGHTMARE for mail. The building isn't labeled making it hard for mail to be delivered if it comes after or before the leasing office opens, despite the instructions I give. I don't mind cats, but if you're not a cat person or allergic, don't come here. They are everywhere and could get on top of your cars. some dog owners do not pick up after their animals and there will be poop over the property. For trash, it is constantly overflowing and builds up quickly due to the amount of people living there vs the small trash bins. The good here is my tickets get resolved quickly and they're happy to help and it's pet friendly but it's not enough for me to want to stay here. The pool and gym are very nice and I enjoy using them. The location is great for jobs and close to the river (about 10 minutes). But, I have decided I will not be staying here past my lease bc The good does not outweigh the bad for me. read more

This apartment complex has been a nightmare.. From dog poo left everywhere, aggressive neighbors who harass the other residents, maintenance requests being marked "completed" without work being done, vehicle break ins, vehicles being vandalized, mold everywhere that's hidden from plain view, the gates almost always broken, the trash near building B making the entire area smell awful, the homeless population rummaging through the garbage weekly, and just so much more. If you don't like cats or allergic to cats please don't move here! This place has 50 or more cats on the property and the neighbors continue to feed them they jump all over your car causing damage to the roof! The staff states they will send out a letters for residence to stop feeding cats haven't seen emails or letters! Overall the property is clean and staff respond on a timely manner! Makes for a pretty picture although site pics are misleading, but as far as it being a place to live it's not so pretty, I stayed here for about 3 months, within 2days of receiving my keys I noticed there was a roach infestation and the reason I hadn't noticed it was because the place had been cleaned just enough to pass an initial walk through. Under my stove was two roach bombs and it reeked of raid. The longer I stayed the more roaches I encountered, it certainly was not an ideal place for me to stay with a one year old. My water heater kept leaking and my laundry room was always soaked. I notified management that I noticed a few roaches and I had to PAY for pest control, mind you I haven't even had a single piece of food or beverage in the unit and the roaches started to show up like they own the place!! All sizes, adults and babies, indicating it was a roach family there to stay. Luckily I was outside the main building bc woo! That building smells like it has not been sanitized or cleaned in years! The mail area/breeze way reaks heavily of pets! Cat piss, wet fur, poop all mixed together you name it! The pool looks nice until you actually get inside and notice it's filled with what looks like nats at the service of the water. There is cats everywhere and fresh cat poop all over the building to match. Being able to get out of my lease was the biggest blessing of the year despite me being at fault for the separation. Attempting to live here was a big big mistake. I'm fortunate my child does not have to live in such a environment. They should shut the entire complex down, burn it down and build a new one before taking on residents , especially residents with kids!! My roof and door have been leaking for over a year and they have yet to fix it. Had to replace a rug, clothing, electronics, amongst other things. I've put in several work orders over the year and nothing happened. People's dogs poop all over the lawn and on one occasion in a hallway and never clean it up. Infested with stray cats. Front gate is always open or broken, found a homeless guy digging through the dumpster next to my car one morning. I could go on and on about how awful this place is. read more

Johnston Mills Loft is my New Home. I have been living here for three years now, and the staff treats me like family. Shaneka Grier is a real jewel and a real God sent. It has it's pros and cons. The space and layout are excellent. The security is lacking and the parking is a headache. The staff is nice when they are available. Noise can be a factor sometimes and there are both nice folks and military who live here but there is also a real trashy element here too that gets evicted seemingly every other month. There is complete disregard for the rules by many with veil threats from JML and little to no follow through on promises of fines, etc.... This is a good place but it's not for everybody. read more

This place offers affordable apartments for a decent price. There's a new management team, so changes are in progress. The lofts are huge and have an impressive living space. I have no clue where to begin other than firstly saying, dont do it. I have lost count how many times i wished i never moved in here, it's definitely not what it seems. For a two bedroom, i must admit it is spacious and comfortable... until you realize theres a roach issue that took months to solve and even then you still see one or two here and there. The walls are awfully thin so goodluck not being heard. The on-site clothing wash facility is a joke, half the machines work and even then you probably have to wash your things twice. Walking to your car is nice until you realize that no one here likes to pick up after there dogs so you're always followed by that horrible stench. And if the elevator is busy and you need to take the stairs, keep and eye out because 9 times outa 10, a dog used it as the bathroom too (occasionally in the elevator as well). For a complex that has a couple hundred people paying give or take a THOUSAND dollars a month, youd never guess it. You're lucky to go a week without issues. The only thing i miss are the windows, thats it. I seriously suggest thinking twice.. before moving in here. I wouldn't go back, even if it was free. read more

Johnston Mill Lofts offers decent apartments for manageable prices. If you are expecting luxury accommodations, look elsewhere, but for fairly priced lofts in an okay neighborhood, look no further! First of all, these apartments are located in the City Village district of Columbus, just south of Bibb City. The are has been slated for revitalization, but at first look it is easy to dismiss. Homeless shelters line 2nd Avenue a few blocks away, there are projects a few blocks south, and the surrounding community is comprised mostly of antique shops and old mill workers' housing. While there is a quaint feeling to the houses, they run the extreme from well-kempt to abandoned. There are RiverWalk entrances on both sides of the apartment complex, however, and the whitewater rafting ramp is directly behind the complex. As for the gates, in the past seven or so months, I'd say that one of the gates (usually the main one by the office, and never more than one at a time) might have been damaged may 10% of the time. Usually, it looks like someone miscalculated and hit the gate. Access to I-85, Phenix City, Columbus State University, and to the main shopping areas of Columbus is easy, allowing one to arrive at either destination in under ten minutes. On to management and maintenance. I've had absolutely no issues with the employees since moving in. Granted, I have little interaction with them, but they always leave notices on the door alerting tenants as to changes or upcoming inspections. For example, a month ago they implemented a $100 fine for residents who don't pick up after their pets. Understandable, and to avoid the fine I simply adhere to the rule. I also tempted fate by replacing my tie rods in the parking lot (I wasn't sure if vehicle maintenance was permitted, and couldn't find my lease on a weekend). I put a tarp under the truck to catch any grease or other debris and nothing was said by the maintenance men who passed me a few times. Simply put, respect the rules and upkeep of the property, and there seems to be no issue. About the only "bad" thing I can say is that inspection notices are provided only a day or so prior to the inspections. Working a regular job would be bad enough, but working 12-18 hour days makes it a pain to do some last minute tidying prior to the inspection (with a big dog and those long work hours, it is easy to fall behind with cleaning). The apartments are good, as far as apartments go. I'd say they are the most modern ones I've ever rented (which isn't saying too much), and they provide washer/dryer hookups and dishwashers. I've never had an insect or rodent problem, and the handful of stray cats only serve to amuse the dog and me. With pipes and vents suspended in the air, thick concrete floors (downstairs, the loft is carpeted), and the visible scars of old machinery (stains, threaded holes, etc.), the building and its apartments are a testament to how well our society can repurpose old buildings rather than simply tear them down or let them fall into disrepair. A walk around the exterior reminds me that this was once a place where people earned a living, and now it's a place for people to relax after getting home from work. There is a gym with functional--if not state-of-the-art--equipment, a pool, and even a tennis court. For walkers and joggers, the aforementioned RiverWalk access points lead from the Georgia Power dam down to the Central Business District. I've noticed a mixture of people who live here, from young college types, to military families, to retired persons. This is one of the few places in Columbus that does not have restrictive pet policies (for those adaptive sorts looking for inexpensive places to live, even the trailer parks and houses-for-rent in low-income areas would not allow my Labrador) and it is about a twenty minute drive to Sand Hill. Unless something changes, I'll be renewing my lease in a few months. While not perfect, Johnston Mill Lofts offers a fair value in a convenient location. read more

Security gates are often broken. The office hours are erratic. Deadlines are made, threats are extended, with no way for the resident to meet them--Sunday, no one in office to take payment, etc. I have never been late with rent, never a noise complaint, i have been a good tenant. The property is gorgeous, but is not worth the hassles. Having seen my honest review on google, the mgt is trying to increase rent, is complaining about non-existent noise, and is otherwise trying to make my residence unpleasant. read more

the only reason this place gets one star is because no stars isn't an option. the secure gates are always broke, all of them! they are eat up with roaches, and no one in the leasing office cares. when you have an issue, they just hum and haw until you either give up or they hope you forget about it. they charge you for everything, from putting trash in the wrong dumpster, to having a flat tire. homeless people roam the halls and pee on peoples doors and sleep on there poach chairs because the gates are broken. I would rather live in a upside down school bus than live in a place like this. and on top of all that, they charge more than on post! read more

Three months of living at the Johnston Mill Lofts and it has been the worst living experience of my life. When signing up they were completely unorganized, and I had to drive 2 hours several times for paperwork they later told me they could have emailed. They showed me apartments first that were not what we asked for before showing us the right ones. The people were quick to get attitudes when I asked why my wife had to sign the paperwork as I was the only one i wanted on the paperwork. Without our permission they put her on the paperwork as a responsible party and when I tried to get out of the contract and go somewhere else they said a piece of paper I had already signed obligated me to pay the 3 months rent to cancel the agreement. Business practices are shaddy has hell. After 3 months of being set up on reoccurring payment drafts, one random month for no reason I can find out - the system did not draft and they charged me an extra 100$ for late fee having not missed a single payment before. To top it off, they decide to now charge 25$ extra for using credit or debit cards that my draft was set up on that was not agreed upon during the contract signing. I have been informed that they are allowed to do this. This is crap!!! Worst experience ever. By the time I pay for all the dishonest bills they send me I might as well have gone to a nicer community. Dont do business with this place!!! Terrible business terrible people!!!
