I was a client of a well known facialist in the DC area that works with only the best Organic products. Unfortunately, my old facialist no longer is in business but fortunately I found LOFTY! All I have to say is WOW. I booked a 90 minute Organic Facial with a girl named Nichole. Hands down the most relaxing, pampering facial I have ever had. I love the products she used, they smelled completely amazing and made my skin look radiant. The Spa is beautiful and the room where I had my facial was spaceous and sumptiously decorated. I was welcomed warmly from the front desk lady and offered tea which was a nice touch. My facialist wasnt pushy about products (which is huge for me) but did ask if I would like any recommendations. I have been getting massages with Matthew every other week for about 7 years. Amazing does not even begin to describe how wonderful he is.... "magical" might come close. He is one of the few masseuses I have ever encountered that has both a deep and vast knowledge of the musco-skeletal system as well as a great spiritual centering (though if you are looking for "woo woo", this is not your guy). Basically, he keeps me sane. Ania takes care of my skin and eyebrows and does a fantastic job too... and she's a lovely person. My 5 star rating is based on the only two services I've experienced at Lofty - hair and nails. The first thing I really like about this salon is that you can make appointments online through their website. It is a very nice building on Maple Ave, not too far up from Nutley St. The front desk staff are nice, always offer to get me a cup of tea. There is only one manicure/pedicure station so I felt like I got a lot of personal attention (Last time I was there I saw a girl whose name was pronounced "Sue" but i don't know the correct spelling, but she was very nice and did an excellent job on my french manicure.) I always feel strange at some salons when there are a lot of a particular culture working and they speak in their native language, so i feel i have no clue whats going on, so having just the one station really alleviates that uncomfortableness, Mona, who is the owner of Lofty, is one of the main hair stylists, and is known for her specialty in curly hair. The first time I saw her, she looked at my hair first, before her assistant washed it, and really asked me what i wanted, and stuck to it. The second time i had it highlighted, and she cut it first (which, normally salons color it first and then cut it because they charge based on the length) and she really did a nice job with my highlights. She didn't go too blonde or too heavy, and explained why she didn't highlight certain areas. I've never had a cut i absolutely loved until this one, she took away some of the poof without getting rid of the length too much, and shaped it really nicely. If you have curly hair, this lady knows what she's doing! Lofty has other services like massage, facials, etc. as well as a "fitness" center where they offer yoga classes. I've been going to this salon for years and Taylor takes AMAZING care of my hair & highlights. I don't like the look of most highlights but Taylor makes them look natural and very easy to maintain. She always gives me a perfect haircut! The rest of the staff is always very friendly and helpful, quick to offer drinks or ways to make the visit more enjoyable. This week I tried the Head to Toe 2-hour treatment with Ania, what a great deal!! It included a blissful massage and really nice organic facial. When I left my skin was glowing and I felt completely relaxed and pampered. Ania is very skilled and communicative, she takes a lot of time to get to know you and your specific needs. The owner, Mona is great and over the years I have seen how much effort she puts into making Lofty a place where you will want to keep coming back to over and over again! Would have given a better rating, however, we were treated like trash at this salon. The cut was pretty good, but the color was a disaster with an odd mix of colors and leftover coloring on her neck and ear and face and, when we asked for a refund for the botched color job, we were told, "I don't work for free". We had to go and get it fixed which then doubled the amount paid. Well just goes to show the customer is not always right, so we won't be going back and do not recommend! read more

My son is a swimmer, he has been treat it with physical therapist for more than a year for his ankle issue. But he still has pain constantly. so we switch to massage method. We meet Elizabeth in Lofty. She is most knowledgeable massages therapist, she identifies my son's problem right away. She also very patience to loosing up my son's tight muscle. I had an excellent experience with Melody the nail technician at Lofty Salon. She did a delicious chocolate pedicure for myself and a friend. She also did a wonderful freehand french polish change for me with nail products that were vegan based. Services were personal ( a delightful cup of hot tea to begin) friendly, clean and relaxing. Isabella is one of the best "coaches" or "teachers" I have ever seen. She is AMAZINGLY proficient and shares her knowledge and tips freely with her students. She has a certain way of teaching that just...really inspires you to do better, to make positive changes. I'm constantly astounded at how much growth and progress I've made (physically, spiritually) with Isabella. I've gained strength, flexibility, and regained a lot of my functionality with my shoulder (2 shoulder surgeries from sports...) - something I didn't think was possible. I used to be one of those people that thought yoga wasn't really exercise...I could not have been more wrong. I've been a hard core athlete most of my life - and Isabella's classes KICKED MY BUTT. You will definitely get conditioning, sweat, and burn calories. She provides many modifications for each student, so don't worry if you have an injury or need to take it slow on a class or two - Isabella will totally support you and help you work around it so that you still get a fantastic class. There were many things that I couldn't do at first because of my shoulder and she really helped me ease into things. You will also get the spiritual side, relaxation and de-stress benefits of yoga. I don't usually notice how yoga helps me with stress levels...but after missing 1wk (bad snow storms) my stress levels skyrocketed. I'm now so much more appreciative for what yoga has been doing for me. I'd taken "gym yoga" for about a year, one of the instructors was Isabella and that's how I got introduced to her style...from there I went ahead and joined her at lofty. Best move ever! The studio itself is quite nice and private. It has a very welcoming atmosphere. The studio space for yoga is in very good shape, clean, and there's some equipment provided if you like. There are a variety of classes and times available. I was a little apprehensive about getting to the studio, since it's located in "Vienna" - but it is closer to Fairfax City than it is to Tysons. Really, the commute is not bad - coming from the intersection of Burke Center Parkway and Rt 123, to give you reference. Parking is good so don't worry about that, either. I don't have any experience with the salon or other yoga instructors at Lofty Yoga, but that's OK because Isabella is fantastic. I'm a college student - so my budget is tight - and I consider classes with Isabella to be my top priority in terms of what I do with my 'fun' money. You won't be disappointed. read more

BY FAR the best hair cut I've ever had!! Mona is a genius at dealing with curly hair!! I'm 51 years old, and I will easily tell you that I have hated my curly hair for over half my life. I am Middle-Eastern and have super-fine and very curly long hair. THROUGHOUT MY LIFE, I have tried everything to get rid of the curls or manage them with various hairstyles. When I finally realized that my curls defied all the treatments in the world and chemical straightners, I resigned myself to "put up" with my hair. The only way that I could keep it manageable was to keep it long. Thinking that the weight of the length at least controlled it - I was petrified of cutting it short because I've had disasterous "Afro" results in the past. Mona convinced me that I needed to cut it as it was in desperate need, and she reassured me that with a proper cut, that I could have a really low maintenance but cool look. I took a risk and am thrilled with the results. My hair is super short, but is beautifully cut in such a way that my curls have the right amount of volume and they look healthy and stylish. I am shocked at my response and the fact that I did a 180 reversal and now actually love my curls. I loved taking my first shower at home after the hair cut - I used to spend a ridiculous amount of time de-tangling my hair with tons of conditioner - now washing and styling my hair is a pleasurable breeze. I found Lofty after moving back to the area from Florida. My badly damaged hair needed to go and I desperately wanted to be more blonde, so I decided on a bayalage look. I left my first visit in a little shock from how much hair was missing and how few highlights I had. When we were done Mona mentioned me coming back for more if I wanted and I took her up on that. My hesitance to complain was silly and I am so thrilled with how everything turned out. Mona and her staff welcomed me back with open arms and we're sure to give me exactly what I wanted. I went to Lofty. I was early and I was greeted by the really nice receptionist and then by Lauren. She went over how I wanted my hair and made some suggestions of her own to make it look better. I was so happy when I thought I was leaving the salon, Lauren gave me a make up make over. It was really nice. I don't know why they call if Lofty.. it should be called Tranquility. I have been getting my hair cut by Mona at Lofty Salon for quite a few years. Prior to that I went to several stylists who said they specialized in curly hair, but the haircuts were mediocre at best. Mona, who has curly hair herself, understands how to cut and style curly hair. The products she recommends keep my curls soft and shiny. Curly hair can be tricky to cut, and sometimes the cut takes a few days to settle in. If, after a week or two, there's something I don't like about the cut, Mona is always happy to have me come back in and she will fix it at no charge. I started seeing Mona a few years ago due to her online reviews as a curly hair expert. Her salon is very nice, but her attitude is pretty snobby and she made me feel uncomfortable. But I thought she cut my hair fine, and so I went back for more. She later talked me into putting henna on my hair as a natural way to hide my grays. The first time, it was fine. The second time, she said she is going to put a black henna on my hair, as she thought the first henna looked to orange (funny, she told me how great it looked when she first put it on). I told her I had read there is no such thing as black henna, that it is a mixture of other things. She said that is not true. I said what is the henna called, what brand is it. She wouldn't tell me, only that she gets it imported. So she goes ahead and puts it on. In only a few days, all of the so-called henna faded and my grays emerged again as before. When I call to complain, she now confesses that it wasn't henna, but it was a temporary "all natural" dye. I said I didn't want to pay over $65 for something that lasts a few days. So she says to come on in and she'll do henna again. I said that is what I asked you to do the first time, and you didn't do it -- I just want my money back. She said, "I can't give you your money back." What?!?! You "can't" give me my money back, or you don't want to give me my money back. The only thing she would offer was to let me pick out some products from her overpriced boutique in the salon. So not only did Mona lie to me about what she put on my hair, even when I asked her directly, she has extremely poor customer service. Had she simply refunded my money when I asked her, I wouldn't feel as motivated to bother writing this review. read more

I originally heard of Lofty and Mona through naturallycurly.com (the curly hair girl's guide). I was excited to get my hair cut and styled with a true curly hair expert. I was really disappointed with my hair cut! Mona had her own opinion of what my hair should look like and proceeded to cut away almost as soon as I sat down. I wanted my usually tight curls softened and slightly wavy. This is easy to achieve by blowdrying my hair with a large round brush. Mona thought it would be better to leave my hair really curly (less work for her I guess). I ended up with a cut that was uneven, too short, and too curly for my liking. I bought an expensive gel from her that she said would help with frizziness. The gel ended up being super sticky on my hair and I never used it again. I have also dealt with Mona for other business related issues. She is generally unresponsive, unprofessional, and a bit flaky. To finish on a positive note, her salon is beautiful and comfortable. read more

Mona can cut any hair terrifically; she's especially known for the two extremes - hair that's really curly or really fine. She has a new treatment to smooth curly hair that is not a chemical straightener but lasts quite a while (I'm on month 4). Lofty also has yoga classes, a masseur and other services. Mona sells jewelry, bags and some other items. No pressure to buy, though. She's also a real believer in giving back to the community. read more

I had my hair cut by Mona two days ago. One of the worst experiences of my life. She cut it like a hiker through a jungle with a machete. She hacked it away without any style. She grabbed handfuls so thick the shears couldn't make it through. I went elsewhere to get it fixed, although she cut my hair so short it was almost impossible to correct. Then when I called her for a refund, she said I should've returned to her to fix it and won't refund me my money. A milestone birthday makes it imperative to indulge in all of your guilty pleasures, and for me that's some good ole' pampering. After a friend recommended Lofty, I decided to make the plunge and book both a Swedish massage and hair appointment. AMAZING!!!! After a year of taking care of my own hair (embarrassed to admit), and never finding any time for myself, I wanted to treat myself to some much needed TLC. I arrived at Lofty to find tentative staff who checked me in on time and made me feel very welcome. I met with my massage therapist, Ania, who discussed areas of importance to me. The massage area upstairs was so tranquil and serene. The room was clean, peaceful and decor so inviting. Ania made sure I was comfortable, relaxed, and afterwards - hydrated! She was GREAT! After my massage I met with Taylor, who is very youthful and trendy stylist. I love women with SPARK. I discussed with her all my hair dilemmas as I wanted a new hairstyle that made me youthful, but one that wouldn't be too dramatic (at least yet). She corrected my color from a very brassy yellow to a warm and glowing blonde. I got a long inverted bob that myself and husband just LOVE (Yay!). After my massage and hair, I decided to treat myself to a few face products (getting older comes with some extra lines and puffiness). Lofty sells organic face creams and makeup that were just perfect for my sensitive skin.
