I just had the worst customer service I could ever imagine. I was told to "Shut the F*** up" "Your an "F***in Liar". "I don't give a sh*t what you do" "Your a piece of sh*t". He refused to give me his name, or the owners. I won't even go into what the dispute was about, even though I was taken for $500. Being spoken to like this is totally unacceptable. My wife and I love history and jumped on a chance to have a romantic getaway in Galena in one of these Circa 1830's cabins. We arrived and were immediately impressed by the cabins. For some reason I had thought these cabins where going to be spaced a little further apart, the where relatively close to each other, kind of like a city neighborhood. I don't know where I got that impression, but they never advertised it that way. We stayed in the Grant cabin, it was the smallest log cabin they had and it was perfect for the two of us. It was nice and cozy. The cabin was clean and waiting for us. The owner/operator welcomed us cheerfully and explained the amenities. The cabin comes with a microwave, fridge, Jacuzzi tub, TV, fireplace and firewood. There is a couch and small table and chairs to eat at. They supply you with a cork screw, coffee pot/coffee, wine glasses and tumbler glasses. In the fridge was a delicious loaf of homemade blueberry bread and two bottles of orange juice. On bench that served as a coffee table between the couch and the fire place there was a guest book where people put in their stories and a binder with fliers and menus for local business and restaurants. One of the neatest part was the history of the building, not just how old it was but the impact of various guests. There were pennies and corks wedged into the walls at different places, left by guests as a reminder of their visit. Keep this in mind when you show up so you don't get annoyed like I did that someone jammed a cork someplace and the owner didn't clean. My wife and I left our own mark. I loved the location and the feel and can't wait to go back. I will say that at $228.00 after tax a night is a little pricey, but well worth the ambiance and experience. read more

My husband and I stayed there on 2008. We stayed in the Grant Cabin. We LOVED the idea of a log cabin and the rustic-ness of it being on a farm. We would wake up in the morning to the sounds of cows mooing in the pastures right outside our window. It had tranquil and absolutely serene views of the rolling hills. The inside of the cabin was quaint. Very rustic... log walls and wooden planked floors. Very 1800's-ish... The only reason I did not give it a 5 star is that upon arrival, the place was a MESS. Dog hair on the couches (and I have dogs but this was obviously enough for me to complain), sheets were not cleaned and smelled of other people on the pillows and linens... This could have RUINED our vacation but instead, I went to Walmart around the corner and purchased all new sheets, blankets and pillows. Sounds kind of extreme but I honestly just wanted to rest enjoy our stay and feel comfortable in this adorable log cabin. I purchased a broom and dustpan, and bathroom cleaning supplies as well!!! After an hour or so of cleaning, we just wanted to relax in the jacuzzi tub that I cleaned to a sparkle so I turned on the hot water, filled up the large tub and turned the jets on... to my surprise, little tiny dead nats were coming out of the jets!!! I had to drain the whole thing... fill it again with cold water and run the jets again just to make sure they were all out. Then drained it again, and cleaned the tub before refilling it again! Which by the way we had to wait for the water to heat up again... I think I tried calling the office to ask why our room was not cleaned but don't think they were available. Would I stay here again? You bet! I just know now to come prepared. I'm bringing my house with me :) read more

Don't judge a cabin by it's exterior! This place was great. Cabins are original buildings from the 1800's with the bathroom and Jacuzzi area added (pretty sure they originally used just an outhouse) We stayed in the Grant cabin (2 couples) during a wind storm with gusts up to 50 MPH and never heard a creak. Solid! The inside feels authentic with walls, floors and ceiling made of wood but was very comfortable and cozy with the wood burning fireplace. Bathroom was roomy and updated. 4 people showered with hot water and water pressure was good (I have big hair so that's important). My only suggestion/want would be a slightly bigger TV. It was tiny but whatever. The staff was very nice and accommodating when you needed them but otherwise left you alone. There is a Walmart around the corner and downtown is only 5 minutes away. Chestnut mountain only 20 minutes away. Great place. Cozy, romantic, comfortable and accommodating. Definitely want to come back. read more

I've been to Galena many times in the past and I particularly like going there in the fall to see the colors change. Let me just tell you that this is a new and wonderful way to experience the small quaint town of Galena and have a very peaceful getaway. Tammy is the owner manager of the cabins which overlook a farm( and you will see cows, which are incredible!) It is hard to imagine that a place like this still exists in today's world it is so nice and quiet and peaceful and Tammy could not be more accommodating. My daughter and I in our two small dogs stayed in the guest cabin which was just perfect. The furnishings were very authentic for the time in the accommodations were very nicely done. The juice and fresh bread in the morning that were in our room in our refrigerator was such a nice touch and everything was nicely done clean and made our trip very memorable! Will we come back to this awesome place you better believe it and the sooner the better! read more

This was our 3rd time staying at the Allen log cabins. The first two times was just me and my husband. We just loved it So much..everything about it. We decided to bring the family this time. My sister and her husband and little girl. And our 2 kids. We stayed in the Chetlain cabin. The cabin was great! The kids loved the cows. It was quite and beautiful. BUT the owner..or whoever she was who checked us in..was awful!! We barley got a hello when we checked in. Now, we all knew there would be bugs and spider webs, we were prepared for cabin life. There was a bee hive on the left side of the cabin. We just told everyone to steer clear of it. On the second day there..the Bee's busted their way through a hole in the wall. Bee's were flying everywhere in the cabin. Too many for us to handle. So my husband went and asked the lady for help. She handed him some bug spray and said go kill them. Well, my husband used up the entire can. And still bee's everywhere! So I went and explained to her that there was a bee hive in the wall. She seemed bothered at the fact that we needed her help. She came to the cabin and asked for the bug spray, we told her we used it all. She then grabbed the can and stormed out and said "well you could have told me that!" We had no words at that point. We were in shock at how rude she was. She ended up spraying the hole and stuffing a garbage bag in the wall. She told us there is nothing else she can do..and to deal with it. "It's country living!" So besides the horrible attitude of the lady. We actually ended up having a great time. Oh. And my 11 year son was in charge of killing all the bee's. Not sure if we will ever come back. Which is a shame..we really love those cabins! The cabins aren't cheap..for the money we paid to stay there, We deserved to be treated better!! read more

I have NEVER experienced such Rude customer service in my life. The woman who answered the phone had the most hateful tone in her voice and bad attitude. She talked fast like I was a bother & was difficult to understand. When I simply said "I'm sorry, What?" She literally YELLED at me & said "Are you listening to me??!" This was to be a reservation for our wedding anniversary, but I told her to "just forget it, this is the worst customer service I've ever had." I thought a charming cabin in Galena would be cozy, sweet & romantic, but she made this place feel creepy and miserable. Two thumbs down! read more

My wife and I loved the cabin, which has been around since the early 1800s and had a truly rustic feel. A foremost priority for us was finding a pet-friendly place where we could bring our dog. The $25 pet fee was reasonable. We loved the word burning fireplace, and the jacuzzi was a nice touch too. Beds were adequately comfortable, though not to the extent that I'd expect when spending $250/night. Among the more unique features were the cows roaming the fenced off lot adjacent to the cabins. We were pleasantly surprised to wake up in the morning and see two cows grazing about 5 feet from our cabin. Great to hear nothing but silence other than birds chirping and cows mooing. An excellent getaway from Chicago. My wife and I will definitely be returning. From our view, there isn't a better place to stay in Galena and the cabin itself is the main reason we'll be returning to Galena next winter. read more
