A fantastic B&B. This was our second stay and this was a special one as we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. Chris and Resa the proprietors made our weekend extra special. They surprised us with a little cake for our 50th. Every evening they hosted a cocktail hour with all the guests and they joined in the conversation. The breakfasts were amazing. We have stayed at the Lamberson many times, and this weekend was no different! Everything, from the moment you step in the door says "home"! Michelle has thought of everything, from the homemade brownies on the pillows, to the cute welcome back gift on the table, and the wonderfully scented sheets. We booked a year in advance in order to be able to enjoy the downtown Luminaria this year! It was well worth the wait! We have stayed here when Michelle owned this bed and breakfast and were not sure if new owners could be as delightful as she or if the food would be as scrumptious as hers. Chris and Resa have knocked it out of the park. They are so warm and welcoming, and surprisingly knowledgeable about Galena considering they are new to the town. The inn remains spotless. We stayed in our favorite room, Maud. It is so beautiful, and when you walk in it just smells so fresh... not sure what it is, the lavender washed sheets maybe? I don't smell lavender, but whatever it is, I would love to bottle it and take a smell whenever I want! The food was artfully presented and fabulous. We stayed two nights and I'm not sure what my favorite breakfast item was. Maybe the bacon and cream cheese stuffed brioche French toast. Every thing was just perfect. The courtyard where we enjoyed snacks and drinks in the afternoons was charming, and the flowers in it were so pretty. We look forward to coming back. read more

My cousins came to visit me in Chicago and we wanted a girl's getaway in Galena, so we booked The Lamberson Guest House because we saw it under construction last year, and it was so intriguing! Michelle, the owner could not be any more pleasant & accommodating. We checked in and loved our clean, crisp and elegant rooms. She put all new bathrooms in with huge showers! There were even flat screens with cable which all B&B's don't always have. We missed the cocktails on the terrace, but Michelle was so sweet and let us have wine later. When we awakened, breakfast was served in the dining room! 3 courses. A yummy cinnamon roll, yogurt with fresh berries & granola, and French toast with pecans and bacon. It was beautiful and the beds were very comfortable. Michelle is the perfect hostess. I'll be back!! read more

This was our 3rd time staying here, but 1st since new owner Michelle took over. Perfect spot to stay b/c of the short but hilly walk down to the shops and bars, and the view is outstanding, perched on "Quality Hill" as it is. The redecorating lightenend up the home interior considerably while adding bathrooms to the rooms that did not have them. Now, ALL the guest rooms have private baths, and our room, the Maud, had a very nice sparkling new and comfortable bathroom. Immaculately clean room, the bed was super comfy with nice sheets. Breakfast was great, served in a nice dining room with built in cabinets showcasing some talented woodwork, etc. Even the soaps provided in the bathroom, which we never use, but did this time, smelled great! Best soaps at any of the numerous B&B's we have stayed in. (Most are floral puke smelling, that a guy would not use, Michelle's smelled really good. I would open them up and sniff, even when not washing, just b/c they smelled so good!) The rooms downstairs are nice, and had several books laying around detailing Galena history, that I read thru extensively. She does a wine/cheese thing before you venture out to dinner, that was fun with good snackies. read more

From the moment Michelle invited us into her home, we felt like family returning after a long absence. My now husband and I arrived for our Wedding Week and everything about our visit was made that much better by staying in a place where we felt relaxed. For the first three nights we stayed in the Elizabeth suite. It is the most gorgeous room I have been in when traveling. There is not a luxury resort that can compare. The last two nights we switched over to the Maud room. ALSO GOOD. It is a very spacious, comfortable room and gets gorgeous rainbows through the leaded glass bay window. Michelle's breakfasts were delicious. I should have taken pictures, but was far too busy stuffing the food into my face. When family insisted on going to a breakfast buffet the morning after our reception, I was disappointed that I would miss breakfast at the house. We felt very lucky to be introduced to Michelle's dogs, Murray and Jack. At breakfast a couple of days they cuddled our toes. It was the best! That said, she primarily keeps these guys in her private residence, but we love dogs and were happy to play with them. We even took them for a walk one day. Truly, everything about our experience at the Lamberson felt like spending time with dear friends and family. read more

We spent three nights here for our 28th wedding anniversary. Perfection! Resa and Chris are thoughtful and caring hosts. The breakfast was outstanding. Every morning was different, every morning was three delicious courses, every morning was a visual treat-as well as a culinary one. We parked our car and left it for three days--we could get to everything on foot. And umbrellas available for the day it drizzled. A well preserved historic home. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Galena, and I have to say that the best part of it was staying at Lamberson. I never met a hostess as Michelle, she was so kind and cared for every detail to make our stay at Lamberson a magical time. My wife said, staying here made her feel like a princess. My sister, mother, and I, stayed at this bed-and-breakfast for my mother's 65th birthday. It was my sister and my mom's first time at a bed-and-breakfast. This place was awesome! Everything was very clean. The rooms were terrific. We stayed in the Elizabeth room and everything was crisp and clean. It had a beautiful view of the town of Galena. Breakfast was delicious and we looked forward to it every morning. We felt right at home and Michelle is a wonderful host and cook! This Galena bed & breakfast on Millionaire's Row is high on a hill, overlooking the town. The grounds are lovely, with a great patio, where one can sip wine while hearing the sounds of nature. The inside is even more magnificent with perfectly restored wood everywhere, beautiful furnishings, large windows and innkeepers, who meet your every need possible. The bedrooms are all lovely, whether the smallest or the largest and all have private bathrooms. The breakfast experience was equal to anything I've had in a 5 star hotel, with lovely china and excellent food. I will definitely come back to this most perfect experience! read more

This is a lovely renovated guest house, with all the comforts. Many old homes try to 'keep the appearance" of an old home, but the ​truth is they are never very comfortable. Michelle has made this house into a home and it's lovely while adding new decor, the character of the home is still​ intact. This is an Elegant beautiful and spacious B&B. Extremely clean. Fully renovated 1800's mansion in 2017 tastefully furnished/decorated with very comfortable beds, bedding, pillows, and chase lounge sofa/ chairs in our suite. 3 course homemade delicious breakfasts on fine china including mimosas, 4 pm wine/ cheese with special touches like hand piped chocolate filled raspberries and home baked goods throughout the day. Soft music always playing. Michelle is the Owner/Hostess and does all the cooking/baking/hostessing and is a very lovely person who is living her dream. She is a true professional who is very attuned to the needs of her guests. We stayed over Labor Day week. She even provides umbrellas which were very needed as well as DVR movies for your room while waiting out the storms. Lamberson Guest House (formerly Grandview) changed ownership, went through extensive remodeling and reopened in December 2016. My wife and I stayed here Friday thru Sunday this past weekend. The house is perched on top of "Quality Hill" and has a magnificent view overlooking the downtown strip and Galena River valley. The new owner/innkeeper Michelle is about as sweet, thoughtful and hardworking as they come. Her breakfasts are delicious, candlelit, three courses with Mimosa's and steaming hot coffee. The interior of the house has good natural light, detailed wood and brass finishes, many pocket doors, historic charm, and presents simple elegance. Prior to the remodeling, the four bedrooms shared a single bathroom. Each bedroom now has a bathroom with high quality fixtures, toiletries and luxuriously heavy-weight towels. Hair dryer and bathrobes are provided. The décor in the bedrooms, like the rest of the house, has simple elegance. If you go, check out her scrapbook of before and after pictures and you'll see what I mean by 'simple elegance'. We stayed in the Elizabeth room which is the largest and has a separate sleeping, living, and reading room. Elizabeth has a panoramic view of the river valley. All of the bedrooms have a flat screen television and Blu-ray player. There is a good selection of current movie titles. When you arrive in your room you'll notice wrapped sweets on the bed pillows and chocolates in a side dish. There are outlet/USB chargers at the sides of the bed. WIFI is free and the signal strength was good. Bottles of water and wine glasses/opener are in the room. Temperature in the house is controlled using the best of both worlds; cooled by central air in hot months and radiant heat during cold months. The house is remarkably quiet for a historic building. I was expecting creaking floors and stairs but they were silent. There are coffee/tea/cocoa stations on the first and second floors that use Keurig pods. At the downstairs station Michelle keeps an assortment of fresh baked cookies stocked. Between 5pm and 5:30pm daily a wine and cheese selection is provided for guests. The wine was good and the cheese exceptional - purchased from Galena River Wine & Cheese store in town. Parking at Lamberson is ample; on the side street next to the house and behind by the coach house. You will want to arrive at this area and not in front of the house because of the hill. Since the house is at the top of the hill you can either drive down into town (easier to park 1 block off Main street) or if you enjoy walking take the adjacent stairs down the hill - you'll end up close enough to the midway point of the strip. My wife and I have stayed elsewhere in Galena and we initially liked the idea of "trying them all out." However after our stay at Lamberson we changed our minds and we'll make this our first choice. It's worth noting that although there is a two night weekend minimum, if you call Michelle a day or two before the weekend and there's availability, she'll try to accommodate you. read more

Just a delightful place run by a delightful person. All the history of Galena is there in a mid-19th century home, but with all the modern comforts, too. Michelle's breakfasts are not to be missed, and neither are the wine and cheese gatherings each afternoon, where she and guests converse in her shaded courtyard. Be sure to peruse the parlor's binder of historical details about the home and its original inhabitants, and the binder with before/after photos that show how painstakingly Michelle and her secret weapon Norm restored and upgraded the historic building. My husband and I stayed at the Lamberson Guest House over Memorial Day weekend to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary and it was nothing short of perfect. Given we both didn't have much time off of work to fly out of state, we decided to choose Galena since neither of us had been there before and it was about a 3 hr drive from Chicago. It was exactly what we had wanted: peaceful, relaxing, and intimate. Michelle has everything to make your stay memorable, from her 3 course delicious breakfast to perfect treats-cheese, crackers, chocolate filled raspberries, brownies/chocolates in your room, WINE, freshly brewed coffee, baked cookies! And the house is conveniently located close to Main St. where all the shops/restaurants are located. What more can one ask for! She is such a genuine and kind woman and I am so glad we chose her place as our first bed and breakfast experience. We cannot wait to come back! My wife and I made our first trip to Galena over Mother's Day weekend. We searched and researched all the B&B's and knew we wanted an old beautiful home with the right finishes(more so for my wife). We chose Lamberson Guest House and were very excited. As soon as we checked-in with Michelle, we loved it there. It got better and better with every minute we stayed. Michelle was an excellent host and she really thought of everything like the best sheets ever, smart phone/tablet charging stations, blu-ray players with a ton of new movies to watch, fresh cookies everyday, karate chopped pillows(lol). The list could go on. Her breakfasts were some of the best food I have ever had. I had never had a scone before, for good reason, but her scones were amazing. We socialized with the other guests and Michelle quite often. We toured all the rooms while we were there and agreed we will stay in all of them as we keep coming back because each room was so nice and unique. We will not even consider staying anywhere else when we come back to Galena. Couldn't have asked for any better accommodations. We have already booked future trips this year. read more

I can't say enough good things about the Lamberson Guest House. My husband and I stayed here for a little weekend getaway. Everything was perfect. The house was beautiful, the location (right by downtown) was great, breakfast was amazing each morning and the innkeeper (Michelle) was truly wonderful. She was made for this job. We stayed in the Mary room, which was perfect for two. It also had its own reading nook which was great. The little touches at this place make the difference, from keurigs to cookies to wine in the afternoon to beverages stocked in a community refrigerator and the list goes on and on.
