I chose Brierwreath because we were looking for a room that could accommodate three in a room. The Heirloom Suite has a queen bed and a day bed so that fit the bill. The decor is so charming in the house. It's like stepping into an antique shop. Joe, the owner, was extremely nice. He gave us a little history of the house and was kind enough to give us recommendations of where to dine in Galena. The breakfast he served was so yummy! I definitely was a member of the Clean Plate Club. The 24 hour refreshment hutch and fridge on the guest floor is great. And the fresh cookies were a treat! The location is only a short walk to Main Street, which is another plus. Will definitely be back on our next trip to Galena!

I was pleased that each room had a separate sitting room and it's own bathroom/ shower. We went in the fall/summer so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the bedroom fireplace but it looked so nice! The owner (who took it over in April from his parents) was very friendly and helpful- not overbearing at all! Breakfast was good- we were able to pick between a couple options when he asked us upon checkin. Coffee was good & several juices on the table. On the bedroom level here was a mini fridge, coffee machine, and water machine for use. Also the bedrooms are more separate and since there are only 3guest rooms it was a nice private feel. The only two negatives that I found was I wished they had a surge protector next to the bed because I had to unplug the clock/radio since I prefer to keep my cell phone on the nightstand charging while I sleep (my husband had an extra outlet on his side to use); the other part is they put a lot of effort decorating... There was lots of vases and stuffed teddy bears on the ground which upon leaving I could not simply scan the floor that nothing was left. However the Best part of this place was the location! Excellent perfect location! We were able to walk to everything! When we drove to Iowa (15mins away) we passed a lot of b&b that were not so close which made us really appreciate this place!! And the price was reasonable!

Our bathroom featured a claw-foot freestanding tub, which was fine for us but could be a challenge for older or mobility-challenged guests. The happy hour at 5:00 each evening offered wine and a simple cheese plate, which Jordana prepared. Breakfast each morning was a full 3-4 courses, which was really delicious and served promptly at 8:30. We enjoyed chatting with other guests at breakfast and learning about their adventures in Galena. Communication with the Inn was frequent and easy. Note that the former "Potting Shed" is now a Sauna space. The Inn is within about a 15-minute walking distance of downtown, and a 10-minute walk to Grant's home. Great stay, highly recommended.

It was like we had a gourmet meal unlike our usual breakfasts when we go out and certainly not like what we eat at home. We really enjoyed the other guests at breakfast and our 5:00 happy hour with a plate of cheeses and crackers with wine was wonderful. Sometimes we spent up to two hours or more just sitting around talking with them. The host even went out of her way to purchase beer for us which made it extra special touch for us. Deciding to do a last minute trip to Galena, my boyfriend discovered Abbey's. considering we were…read morebooking the room say day, they were very nice. we arrived around 10:30 pm, and were greeted promptly by kat. she showed us around and then took us to our room. told us breakfast was at 9, and showed us how to get back in when we would leave. we were then introduced to her husband, and we set off into the night for some fun. the room itself was nice in a quaint way. there was a jacuzzi tub in the corner, a 4 post bed, fireplace, desk, and tv. the bathroom was a bit small, and the water-pressure a bit lacking, but it was cute place. probably the biggest downside for us was how loud the bed was! you would sit down and it would creak like it was going to break. i was definitely woken up a few times by my boyfriend rolling over in the middle of the night. breakfast itself was good. there were a few things we didn't care for on the menu, but nothing to complain about overall. the barely saw the owners, which works well for me. i don't want to feel like i'm at my parents house and be checked in on all the time. nice place to stay. i would recommend coming here if you stay in galena. the gardens here a gorgeous and the view is wonderful.

The room was super clean but the beds were soft and appear to be needed replacement. The pool is a great size for lap swimming but could use a cleaning as well as The hot tub -which has some of the best jets I've had! All in all it was a great experience overall and would recommend! I guess they do weddings outside which is super cool and they purchased an adjacent historic mansion which looks amazing but isn't be ready for the public yet.

This hotel seemed to have touches much classier than many of the hotels that are now part of the Wyndham family. There was a nice bar/ lounge where they also serve breakfast and a very large indoor pool. They also have a big deck outside (it was too stinking hot to use but it looked nice). Even a gift shop/ salon. The room was nice and obviously recently updated (the whole hotel appears to have been refreshed). The decor is nice and the extra sink outside the bathroom was nice. The major downside was the horrible water pressure in the shower. Is there a water shortage in northwest Illinois? This was worse than many hotels in California. Other than this issue the room was good especially at the price we paid. The breakfast was on par with other chains of this caliber though they did have real plates and silverware and the pancake machine! Would stay here again when in the area.
