We worked with both Jim Sr. and Jim Jr. on a title transfer for a vehicle that was purchased out of state. That transaction turned out to be much more complicated than expected because the seller provided inaccurate and incomplete paperwork. Both Sr. and Jr. were patient and professional. Because of their experience, they were able to unravel the issue and resolve it. Lohr's probably invested 3-4 hours on our title transaction and charged us a very fair and honest price for all their work and their expertise. More recently, we were closing on a property sale and needed to have some documents notarized. We actually took the documents to another Notary first. After watching my wife and I spend about an hour reviewing 240 pages of documents to make sure everything was in order, the Notary finally mentioned their price, which was $15 per notarization. In the end, this transaction would have cost us almost $200 for their services. I remembered Lohr's and called them on my cell phone. Jim Jr. picked up. He let me know they had closed for the day, but even so, he asked about our situation. I explained we had a very short window to have the documents notarized and then delivered overnight. He probably recognized the stress in my voice. Without hesitation, he offered to drive back to their office and open just for my wife and I to get our documents notarized. When we walked in, I noticed the engraved sign on the counter, detailing all their fees for various services. As Jim Jr. worked through the documents carefully, he pointed out several missing initials, which we then corrected. He explained the entire process and his fees, even though they were clearly posted. He was thorough, courteous and respectful of our time constraints. When it came time to figure the bill, Jim Jr. charged us a flat fee for all of the work, rather than a per document fee. He explained that the 'per document' fee makes sense when a customer has only a few documents to be notarized. However, he recognized that because our two documents included 6 notarizations each, that it would be fairer to charge a flat fee rather than per document. He wouldn't have had to do that. Honestly, at that point my wife and I were so grateful that he was willing notarize the documents on our very tight timetable, that we would have gladly paid the higher fee. In the end, we paid less than half of what we would have been charged at the other place, even though the personal service we received was 10x greater. In this day and age, customer service is almost non-existent. It is rare to find a business of any size that is truly willing to put the customer experience ahead of everything else. Lohr's certainly did that and more. They take a personal interest in their customers and that made all the difference to us. I had vehicle trouble on a Saturday when most other shops were closed and very few were doing any work on vehicles. Since I was in town only for the day, I needed help and Lohr's stood up and took care of it for me even though it was outside their normal practices. The operation was well run, friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend this garage to anyone that needs work on their vehicle. Don't waste your time! Go to Dunkles. Had to get a title signed. Would be $5.00 at Dunkles. He watches the title being signed and then proceeds to charge 43.00 to our credit card. He waited until AFTER the title was signed and the card was swiped to mention there was a 38.00 fee for anything that has to do with a title. The only visible signs for notary at his location were signs that stated $5.00. Total fraud. read more

We had our travel trailer on the road near State College. We were just on the road to a much needed camping trip. We soon realized we had a tire about to blow. We called a couple of places and they could not help us. But one recommended Lohr's auto. He squeezed us in and make quick work of tires and gave us a fair price. Nice guys! read more

These people use their business like they are creators of heaven and earth! I took my vehicle there to get an alternator replaced and was told they found other issues that required me to get fixed. Had my vehicle inspected there and was told my power steering pump was leaking, and they wouldnt pass the inspection until i had THEM replace the pump and hoses. I never noticed any power steering fluid on my driveway and when i asked to see the old pump and hoses they conveniently gave an excuse that they didnt have access to it. Just the other day I took my mothers vehicle there for a salvage inspection. They wanted $1100 to fix a wheel bearing and replace 2 O2 sensors, so i decided to take it to another garage to have those things fixed. Only cost $350 for those. When i went to take the car back to finish the inspection, the owner was very nice, but his son butted in the conversion and when i told them they still had my license plate and title he flew off the handle and said they dont have it and that they give everything back to the owners when they take their vehicles. After explaining what happened to the father, he remembered our earlier convo and asked his son to look on the wall slot for my paperwork. sure enough, there was my plate and title. he was astounded and issued an apology right away. I will NEVER take another vehicle to them. they are TOO expensive and try to add things onto the bill! read more

We brought our car to Lohr's to get it titled and registered in PA after moving to State College from MA. We had to make multiple trips there because they told us incorrect information about what paperwork was required. After many trips to Lohr's we finally got the car registered. We scheduled an inspection for a week later. Our car failed the safety inspection and they reported that we needed $1700 of work to get the car to pass the inspection (the car is only 5 years old and has 40k miles on it) and we were shocked. Some of the things that they said needed fixing (break pads, rotors, etc.) were obviously not faulty or we would have noticed. We promptly called around to a few other places. We ended up taking to car to Monro Muffler and Breaks down the street. They did an inspection on the car and gave us a quote of $400 to get the car to pass inspection. They also noted that not as many things were wrong with the car as Lohr's claimed. We had the car serviced at Monro and re-inspected. The car is now fully inspected and we paid $1300 less that what Lohr's was attempting to charge. We will be reporting Lohr's to PennDOT for running this type of scam. I suspect that since we are women they think that we do not know enough about cars to know better, and consequently they were free to claim things that weren't true and try to charge us $1700 for repairs that were not needed. They were wrong. This sort of dishonesty is incredibly disheartening. I would not recommend Lohr's for any sort of repairs or inspections. I sincerely believe that they are dishonest, and when it comes to inspections will fail people in an attempt to get more money out of them. If you want honest, good quality service I would highly suggest you go elsewhere. read more
