Lola's Libations is the maker of Smartinis - delicious Stevia-sweetened, sugar free, low cal, low carb, gluten-free cocktail mixers and bases. Stevia, a natural plant extract 300 times sweeter than sugar but 100% sugar free, is the sweetener used in all Smartinis. There are seven flavors of mixers: Margarita, Lemon Drop, Mojito, Pomegranate, Sweet Texas Tea, Caliente Texas-tini; and two bases: Sweet and Sour and Simple Syrup. You can purchase Smartinis in package stores or online, and Smartini cocktails are served in fine restaurants and bars. Established in 2010.
When Leigh Ann Rodriguez, a North Texas mother of five, started a weight loss program, she realized she wanted to drop the pounds without dropping her life. So she created a new drink mix, called Smartini, that allowed her to do just that.
A normal Margarita has more than 500 calories, while a Margarita made with Smartini mix only has 96 calories.
Instead of using sugar, agave nectar or syrup, the Smartini uses the plant extract, Stevia. The mix started as something for Leigh Ann and her friends to drink at home, but it quickly grew into a much larger project.
"The line just kind of developed in the kitchen, I was making it for my girlfriends and they encouraged me to actually go to bottling," she said.
The Smartini comes in nine flavors, including Mojito, Margarita, Pomegranate and Lemon Drop, among others. Restaurants and bars around the U.S. have started serving the drink and bottles of Smartini can be purchased online and in package stores.
