The woman running the store was so sweet and helpful without being pushy. Even the basic wrapping with a purchase, makes it feel like something special. But, I am likely biased because I care about everything BUT clothes and that is the focus of this place. Friends who shop here swear that they have great clothes at great prices. Maybe they do. The staff were very friendly during our visit. Their hours are a bit limited, and I would imagine because it is a labor of love by the owner(s).

I have a sinking feeling that is what is happening with toys too. There are things the Toy Maker carries that you cannot find in Walmart. Small production toys, Thomas the Tank Engine Wooden Railway, Playmobil, etc. That is what this store is good for. Do not make the same mistake my son made, spending the allowance he saved on a $10 pack of Uno cards that we later found at Walmart for under $5. Unless of course you are happy to spend the extra money to keep these kinds of stores in business. The kiddo learned a valuable lesson: Let the buyer beware.

It was affordable especially when you considered the workmanship. Sold! The owner of the business, Justine, welcomed me and asked me if I needed any gifts. She showed me some beautiful handmade cloth tote bags which fold into zippered clutches. They came in stunning colors and would make awesome gifts for about $20 apiece. I bought two. That was fast. I gave them away as soon as I got home so I have nothing to show. They received rave reviews. Though my shopping experience began with gifting a basket to myself, I've since found reasons to return to West Africa Treasures to make more purchases for friends and family. There's a great deal of variety, including jewelry, housewares, drums, sculptures and personal care products. Justine has a second store at Colonie Center. Her prices are reasonable. I think many of the handmade items are classy. There's also online sales which can be done through the West Africa Treasures website. I bought some earrings online to give as gifts. Justine takes great care in providing excellent customer service. After I made the online purchase, she followed up to let me know when to expect the package. They may not always have a lot of options on hand but their handmade luxury bouquets are stunning. They are very accommodating with custom orders and can even have it made and ready same day. It's a bit pricey here, but that's what I expect for such gorgeous flowers. An added bonus is that they have a nice rewards program to join and thats always a perk. However, when I called, the person who answered the phone was very rude and impatient. First, she told me that she does not take my insurance. I told her that I had looked it up on the insurance website but she continued to talk over me. I decided against this business because I just had a mastectomy and don't want to risk having to deal with such an irritable, rude person.
