My in-laws live nearby and I've always been suspicious; a gelato place in a predominately caribbean neighorhood. Ice cream, yes....gelato...hmmm... Most of the time I've been in the area, it looked empty. Anyway, after years of throwing my nose up at this humble establishment, I saw some of the Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. It was amazing. My go-to flavor to test gelato is stracchiatella. It was cool, creamy, with generous bits of dark chocolate. We also got the rum raisin and ciroc pineapple. Delicious. It's my loss that I didn't try this place sooner. So why 4 stars and not 5? My experience with gelato is that it's softer so if you're looking for a classic gelato experience, that can be a turn off. The ice cream is hard and very cold...and frankly I found it to be very refreshing. Most of the ice cream shops I've been to in NY serve soft ice cream; not soft serve, but slightly below freezing temperature so it's really easy to scoop, but it melts immediately. For me, ice cream should be really cold and more firm. If that's want you look for in ice cream, this is it. For reference, my favorite ice cream shops nearby are Sweet Ashley's in Norwalk, CT and Cookman Creamery in Asbury Park, NJ. So far away.....very sad. All this being said, be adventurous. This place is definitely worth a visit. They have unique caribbean flavors which look amazing and some boozy ice cream, too. I think they still want you to wear a mask, so be a trooper and bring one handy. You won't regret your reward in the end. read more

An ice cream gelato shop that transports back to the Caribbean through their flavors. Baileys, grapenut, rum raisin, trinity, dragon stout and more. They also have regular flavors like cookies and creme, funfetti, vanilla, mango sorbet, strawberry. And I can't forget the boozy flavors like ciroc and Hennessy. There's something for everyone. The actual ice cream is creamy and flavorful. Sweet but not overtly sweet. And since they are in house small batch made I've never had any taste icy. I usually get the 2 flavor cup for $8 and it's plenty for 2. My only gripe is I've found sometimes the hours are not consistent and when they should be open, they aren't. read more

This was amazing ice cream; I will definitely be back. I came here because my friend recommended this gelato. I had the Hennessy and the pineapple ciroc. Both flavors were very good and the pineapple flavor enough had pieces of pineapple. You can taste the liquor in the ice cream without being overbearing. My niece had the ice cream and it was very good as well. They do not have outdoor dining which would have been perfect because it is the perfect weather. They are not giving samples due to Covid. was looking for a local ice cream joint in the bronx and this caught my eye on yelp. went with a friend a tuesday ~7:45 and was skeptical since the place was totally empty. (on yelp it says they're closed certain days but it's totally inaccurate if you call there's a recording that says hours) we were so pleasantly surprised. the hostess is so incredibley sweet and kind and let us try literally every flavor. I would ask her what a flavor was (they have unique names!!) and as she answered she'd be giving me a taste sample. the boozy ice creams are strong! for someone that doesn't drink even the trinity flavor was way too strong of rum for me. I opted for funfetti which was awesome. each flavor tastes super fresh and light, nothing too sickening sweet or artificial. the texture is also a highlight. they only take credit cards for $10 and up, there is also ample street parking and a small lot. there's small seating inside and two benches out. the price is a bit high but for the portion is a steal. for two scoops (only way to get two flavors) it's $8 and literally a pint of ice cream it's unreal. I do wish they let you do two flavors in a "small size" but it's understandable. you will not be disappointed. can't wait to return. read more

Finally, after driving past this place all summer, I was able to stop and try the ice cream. After sampling many different flavors ( all alcohol flavored) I settled on the Ciroc Pineapple ice cream. I was not disappointed at all and would definitely go back. read more

Oh wow wow wow! This place is so fantastic. I called ahead to make sure they were open as I've seen in reviews their times aren't exact. To my luck, they were OPEN!!! I don't live too far from this place, but it was my first time. I sampled a few of the flavors and they were all amazing. I ended up getting 2x scoops in a cup (they also offer cones) of Mango and Mojito. So creamy and rich and a lovely balance between sweet (Mango) and sour/citrus (Mojito). CON- I am giving this place a 3 star only because they are never consistent with there hours. They open when they feel like it or if the day is hot enough. PROs- I can't even deny it, the ice cream is amazing. It's delicious, rich, tantalizing flavors will send your taste buds on a world wind. The flavors they service is like no other and it's authentic Jamaican flavors makes me happy. It reminds me of ice cream from Devon's House in Jamaica. Devon's House have the very best ice cream so for Lollipops to replicate that in NYC is phenomenal. The service is always great, they are patient when customers want to try different flavors before purchasing. I didn't know Lollipops even existed until 2010, seeing it from the Bx16 bus. So of course you know my reaction was "OMFGICECREAMOMGYESPLZBUYMESOMENOW" I've been once or twice but I finally decided to review it after visiting this past sweltering Friday. Lollipops is not your typical ice cream shop. While there are regular flavors, it's much more interesting to explore the varied Jamaican flavors. I was a bit of a wuss and tried the lemon raspberry gelato (very refreshing!), but I'm intrigued by the other flavors. Honestly, a lot of them are items I've never heard of. I don't know what sorrel is, what does it taste like? All in all, Lollipops is a cute small shop in an area that is totally devoid of pretty much any retail. It's mostly residential. Great island flavors rally perk up this unexpected gem. You can get flavors like oats porridge, sour sop, and my fave: Rum and Red bull. Flavors are refreshing for the fruity varieties and creamy for others. The flavors are rich and bold with tastes I grew up loving and know to be top notch. The trouble lies in the inconsistent hours and Lollipops being closed for long stretches of time. That lowers my rating to 4 star and makes it impossible to love this place. I dare you to go during advertised hours two weeks in a row to find them there. Lollipops seems like an afterthought. If the owner ever decides to make this business available for customers, it could go far. 10.7.13 edit- I've been to Lollipops countless times over the 3 or so years they've been open and I must say that while the gelato is sweet, the staff is decidely sour. Went there last night April 24th at about 8:30 p.m. I had a double cone the favours were pina colada and strawberry. The Pina Colada was awful. I threw it away. The strawberry was not much better. Cost for 2 scoops $5.75. A total rip off. I will never go back. In comparison I went to another ice cream shop on Sandford Blvd. this afternoon. Paid $3.00 for a small cone which has 2 scoops.
