I was stoked when I first learned of this spot. I can't believe I was today years old. My gf sent me a video and if was perfect timing since my mother's birthday was this past weekend. I stopped by to pick up some flavors I knew she would appreciate and had a cooler ready with ice packs, to transport them to her in LI. The video mentioned that they have pre-packed pints but suggested having them hand pack the ice cream at time of purchase for the freshest batch. I ordered quite a few flavors, including rum raisin/grapenut, Jamaican rum cake, and stout. We also had some cups for the ride. My kiddo had cookies & cream, hubby and I shared what was supposed to be eggnog/rum raisin but was only rum raisin. The lady helping us mistakenly gave me separate rum raisin and egg nog cups. I was able to try all of them. The consistency is creamy and the flavors are great. They also make smoothies, sundaes, waffles/ice cream, ice cream cakes, and regular cakes. They have traditional flavors and the more traditionally Caribbean flavors. They can get pretty busy. We lucked out when we got there but because we had a large order, they got a little backed up. There are plenty of hands to help take orders and they're pretty efficient. There's a slight but reasonable upcharge for using credit over cash, so keep that in mind, but they do take NFCs which is convenient. I will definitely be back, make no mistake about that. A Mount Vernon staple. You don't go to ICF for the customer service so nevermind that. Go for the fresh & flavorful ice cream and smoothies. Of course, the refrigerated products aren't always as fresh as those at the counter but they come at a good discount - the tradeoff is worth it to me. Visit Ice Cream Factory on E. Sanford Blvd in a Mount Vernon strip and you'll notice a few flavors you won't even find at Cold Stone Creamery or Ben & Jerry's. What you will find are the more common Caribbean coconut and eggnog flavors, lesser-traveled fruit like soursop, plus other Jamaican flavors such as Irish Moss and Stout here. Jamaican tropical fruits are just the tip of the iceberg- so I was hoping to really find even more Caribbean flavors than the ones already offered here. Factory has a number of Vegan soy-based ice cream flavors- wished they offered a healthier Vegan alternative such as Almond-milk or Coconut milk-base instead of the soy. Service was pleasant though during my quick visit. Decided on just 4 small cups: my Vegan Rum Raisin (good) and three regular ice cream in Cherry-Vanilla, Coconut and sugar-free Vanilla for hubs. Then there are other flavors with Grape nut in them and when I asked about it, the woman said it was the cereal and was told, Grape nut is a popular ingredient in Jamaican ice cream¯\_(ツ)_/¯... who knew. I've come here many times throughout the years and had the strangest experience today. Came in with my father and daughter and ordered 2 cones and 2 cups. My dad requested a large waffle cone and then changed his mind within seconds to ask for a smaller waffle cone. The girl who was letting the cashier know what to punch in rolled her eyes and kissed her teeth denying the request because the larger cone was "already punched in," not paid for yet or scooped out -- because she was still standing at the register next to the girl who punched it in. My dad asked if he couldn't change it since it was only punched in and not paid for or for yet scooped, cone not even picked up yet, and was told no. Very unpleasant and poor customer service experience. I asked my dad to let it go only because my four year old was there. Confession... I have made a huge big catastrophic error in judgement. I've never paid this ice cream shop any attention. My focus when entering this small shopping strip was always the Jerk Chicken @ Poppy's. Sadly to say that was a major misstep on my behalf. One afternoon after picking some Jerk Chicken clean from the bone, my bestie and I had a taste for some ice cream. I suggested Cold Stones on Central Ave. Her unwillingness to drive lead us a few doors down. I reluctantly followed with my arms folded and nose in the air. Without any basis for judgment I was convinced that it was a waste of time. Well talk about eating Crow!.. and was thankful The Ice Cream Factory had some awesome ice cream flavors to get rid of the nasty aftertaste of being so wrong. An old school ice cream polar with flavors uniquely their own, catering to a variety of ice cream recipes West Indian inspired. The different combinations of grape nuts and rum raisin are endless and unmatched. Prepackaged in multiple sizes or to be enjoyed immediately in a cone or cup. The young lady who assisted us was gracious while being super busy, to let me taste test several flavors as I tried to make a final decision. Now, that I got over myself, the ice cream didn't even last long enough for a pic. Smh. There are several boutique/gourmet ice cream shops in the city as well as well known national brands but I must say The Ice Cream Factory has the ability to hit a taste bud the fancy ones have yet to reach. Am actually surprised that it makes the business it does. The place is just run down. It's been that way since the original ice cream factory shared the window space with the Chinese restaurant that used to be next door! The staff has always been borderline rude since the beginning. The ice cream- they have expanded the flavors selection- true enough. But it is packed with air... even more so than at the start. Inflation comes in many forms I guess. I recently went here to to treat my daughter and her godmother for an end of the year treat. I haven't been in a while, but had a taste. I walked in and the place was semi busy. I waited my turn to be served, but was met with a very unfriendly server. He didn't greet us and just stared at us to prompt us to order. I said to him: hello and he finally spoke through clenched teeth. My daughter's godmother ordered banana ice cream on a cone and at the same time my daughter was trying to decide what to order. While waiting my daughter's god mother didn't care for the ice cream flavor and since my daughter had decided on banana, I asked the server to just charge us for a plain cone. He sucked his teeth, after I decided not to get a full cone as not to be wasteful. He handed me the cone begrudgingly and I shook my head. I then ordered a strawberry banana milkshake. As I was waiting I picked up a slice of carrot cake, but was becoming increasingly agitated by the servers demeanor. As he was ringing up my order I said I didn't want the cake and he was so annoyed. I told him as the customer I could change my mind and he sucked his teeth which also led him to say I should have told him before he rang me out. Again I am a customer and could change my mind anytime, after feeling berated I told him to take my money and we left. I will say one of the other servers heard me discussing with my daughter (who too noticed how nasty the servers was and she's 6) that everyone should be treated fair and with respect attempted to step in, but the injustice had already been done and I was just waiting on my milkshake. Total for 1 ice cream cone, once cone, milkshake and slice of cake came to just over $18. (I felt robbed, but just wanted to leave) It felt like reverse racism as I am African American and he greeted all the other customers of Caribbean decent (you can notice accents). So let me tell you about my experience with this business, so it's my fault to try to help my community but it back fired! So i have gone to this location more than once and get the same thing every time! Customer service is horrible and rushed!!! I spoke with the manager about my inconsistency of my charges each time, he looked at me and laughed and said i don't look like an honest guy!! I told him that i have been charge for the same items each time and he said it was a big deal do you want your 3.25 back! So many people behind the counter but no one is doing anything but standing around. When you go up to the workers to order they act like your an inconvenience. You can get ice cream, Jamaican patties, smoothies, or açaí bowls from here. I've eaten their ice cream often over the years and have always enjoyed their Grapenut. On my last visit, I decided to try their cookies and cream too. While the flavor is good, the texture is way too airy for an ice cream. Because of the airiness, it melts quickly and leaves the edges as a tasteless foam. The best parts are the cookie pieces. The texture of the Grapenut has changed too. It was also very airy. Considering the cost ($14.95 for a half gallon and $4.95 for the pint), the ice cream should be denser and be of higher quality. Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Daas has a higher density and is cost effective. I don't mind paying high prices for good quality but I should not have to pay top dollar for air and foam. read more

So we walked down a block and stumbled upon this place. They don't even measure but their smoothies and juices are both so good! We tried Cash, Peanut Punch I think it was called, A tropical fruit smoothies and then I had just plain apple juice. The apple juice was okay I don't think they clean their mixer in between uses so it was green apple but the juice came out an orange color. Still tasted refreshing though. The ice creams and other smoothies look really good. Every time we are in town we will definitely be visiting. We went twice in once day! And prices are pretty reasonable too. read more

You know- we've been to this place several times and things were always cool until the girl at the register got all primal with us over something she NEVER said but wanted to save face so decided to take it out on the customer. Let me explain: We ordered ONE small banana-strawberry ice cream in a cup. She decides to serve up two cups for us. We asked her "Are they both for us" and then she just goes hog wild on us... "See, you said TWO- you ain't say ONE now" and just rambled on and on and on like a ravenous, feral animal. I was afraid she was going to jump the counter and start assaulting my wife. It was just ridiculous and embarrassing to be verbally accused of ordering two when we clearly did not. The number two NOT ONCE came out of our mouths. The best part was that she said she made sure we meant TWO by asking us if we were sure we wanted TWO cups. The funny thing is that NEITHER one of us heard her ask us that- interesting. You know why neither one of us heard her ask if we were sure we wanted TWO cups instead of one? Because her lying ass didn't ask to begin with. You made the mistake, didn't want to own up to it, and you took it out on the customers. Needless to say- we won't entertain an establishment that treats their customers like poop on the bottom of a dirty boot. We were raised to respect everyone we come across- and we ask for the same respect in return. That line was crossed, no forgiveness here- you will never see our money again. I've seen this place several times while hanging out in the best buy/target shopping center area. I was never really motivated to come in here until I found out about their unique flavors. On the outside it seems like they're a generic ice cream shop but they serve up some quality one of a kind ice cream. If you're feeling nervous, come in and try a scoop of the grape nuts ice cream.... you'll be sold. They have a lot of carribean inspired flavors like Jamaican rum raisin. I tried the grape nuts and pistacho(with real pistachios) and was in heaven. I also gave the banana bread a try, but I wasn't impressed at all. A large cup here means two scoops, which at the time of this writing was four bucks. Roughly the same price as baskin Robbins. I wish these guys had some indoor seating though. read more
