Tucked away in the redwood forests is a general store and restaurant serving sandwiches, soups and salads. They pride themselves on the quality of the ingredients they use and it shows in their food. We ordered the burger and the BLT sandwich. Both dishes were delicious, and the BLT was large enough that I could finish it all in one go! I love this cozy, woody mountain cabin. Both the ambience and food are great. My only disappointment is that they don't have a real-flame fireplace. They do have a prominently displayed fake-flame fireplace, which I consider better than nothing, but inexplicably on the last chilly morning I was there they hadn't bothered to turn it on. Absolutely charming! Loma Mar Outpost is such a cozy and beautiful spot, it truly gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling the moment you step inside. I loved everything I tried! This was a pleasant surprise on our way back from Pescadero. What once used to be a local market, then a gas station, is now turned into this neat little café (with plenty of parking). I was surprised to find this is a nonprofit, used to teach high school students how to run a kitchen, café or restaurant service, and manage their finances. The food was also quite good, with my favorite as the edamame sandwich. It's a neat little place to check out, that's full of history, if you end up being in the area! read more

Loma Mar Outpost is in the middle of the redwoods and a perfect spot to stop in the middle of a weekend drive. While the menu is smaller, it provides a calming and more relaxing atmosphere than Alice's just up the road. Loma Mar has a great selection of muffins, cookies, and croissants. The outpost's refrigerators are stocked with ice cream, beer, and other weekend necessities. We ordered lunch, which had a short hiccup that was immediately fixed, and ate on the deck which was perfect. Highly recommend an oatmilk cappuccino, avocado toast, and the open face tuna sandwich. What a great find. I we were passing thru on our way to the coast and stopped here for lunch with our teenage boys. We had our dog so are on the front patio but there is more outside tables at side and rear. Truly is an outpost that in addition to the restaurant had an area to buy basic supplies, some crafts, and lots of info on nearby hikes. It takes a bit of effort to find this place and get to it, but it's worth a quick stop at the very least! Just over 6 miles further down the road from Pescadero lies this small establishment which has been around since 1930. The selection on offer is not large, but there are a couple of interesting things which I hadn't seen elsewhere such as a Malvasia Bianca canned wine from Monterey. I also grabbed the last brownie because I can never say no to brownies, as long as they aren't the kind that have an obnoxious wad of chocolate frosting on top. Thankfully their brownies are not that kind and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't loaded with sugar either! Light, somewhat fluffy, not overly sweet and packed with chocolate goodness. Just the way a quality brownie should be! Keep in mind that they have certain hours at times when the kitchen is not open, so if you're looking for hot food, you may need to plan your trip accordingly. We have had times where the servers are super welcoming and other times where they have been off-putting and not so customer friendly. First time visit to this gem amongst the trees. A beautiful drive to get here which attracts car enthusiasts such as my husband. Quaint, delicious food, including baked goods. I've spent the past two weeks commuting back and forth between Daly City and Santa Cruz. Today I decided to take a leisurely ride home up the coast. I've spent too much time in Pescadero and San Gregorio to count, so after a quick stop at Swanton Berry Farm, I made my way to Loma Mar for the best Reuben I've ever put in my mouth. I'm from NJ and have eaten at the original locations of every iconic New York Deli--even those that have shuttered after decades. Katz's, Stage, Carnegie, Junior's...I'm a pro. This is not your usual NYC Reuben. It's a thick slice of hot, crunchy-ended, indulgently fatty corned beef on liberally buttered and grilled rye, with a molten slice of Swiss dripping down the sides. The sauerkraut is clearly house-made and crunchy--not flimsy. The *Ukranian* dressing made me extra happy. I washed it down with an perfectly tart unsweetened hibiscus tea. I devoured most of it before remembering to take a picture. It was *that* good. The worst thing I can say is that it took 15 minutes for my sandwich to arrive, but I spent the time outside enjoying the last bit of sunshine before it sunk behind the redwoods, and bought a sticker from their cute little store. There's also WiFi since cell signals are scarce in these parts. My first visit to Loma Mar will not be my last! read more

This place is a delight! Cozy historic cabin, recently and beautifully renovated, nestled in the middle of the forest. A great mix of cafe and meal items made with high quality, often local, ingredients. Husband said their Rueben sandwich is the best he's ever had. Staff is super friendly - very strong local neighborhood hangout vibes. We haven't been to many of their special events (live music, etc) but they host quite a few, and sometimes have special items on the menu for those occasions (eg a special Valentine's Day dinner). My friend got chicken noodle soup, duck bowl, and hot coco. The ruben was delicious, all the flavors were balanced; would definitely order again. For now, they're only open on weekends, which is perfect for weekend getaways, mother's day, and beach days. // Drinks They have coffees and espressos. The have some nice bottled beverages like cold brew. But our favorite were the cocktails--think mimosas and bellinis. // Food Reubens are their specialty. Grilled toast, corned beef, and kraut sound pretty standard, but it's worth the drive just for these. We also had the quiche, lobster rolls, and the obligatory kale apple salad. All good, if you like that sort of thing. The special side of the day were tater tots. We tore through two orders of tots and countless packets of ketchup. // Pastries They had a nice selection of chocolate croissants, black velvet cupcakes, and chocolate habiscus brownies in the case. I've always loved Pescadero area in the Santa Cruz Mountains, have taken the Alpine Rd & Pescadero Creek Rd to the ocean countless times. An epic treat on a Thursday in October, terrific experience. The unique and amazing rural feel of La Honda and surrounding communities could only be described as wholesome and awesome. Alpine Rd & Pescadero Creek Rd are a wavier, windy route rivaling Hwy 84 on your way over to San Gregorio / Pescadero stretch of the beautiful Pacific coastal shoreline, south of Half Moon Bay and north of Santa Cruz. Taking a scenic detour via Loma Mar is absolutely fantastic! Owners Jeff and Kate Haas purchased the store several years ago, after a long time previous owner retired. They completely reimagined the place, with gracious help of the rural community, involving local expert craftsmen and builders. I sure hope the store can become a destination for Silicon Valley's tech crowd, as well as a local staple for close knit community of Loma Martian's. I've previously tried the food and enjoyed it too - it's good to know you can find good hot food at a general store. I enjoy sitting outside under the heat lamps and looking at the trees. Stopped by here after a hike at Memorial County Park. Nice location. Duck bowl: 5/5. Very flavorful dish with fresh ingredients. The duck is sourced nearby, so you know it is fresh. I normally do not eat duck as I worry that it may be a little too fatty for me, but this was delicious. I might try the duck tacos next time. They have 3-4 tables outside and more inside. We came here at around 1:00 last Saturday and had no trouble getting a table, but it was fairly busy. read more

It's in the middle of the woods so you'll be wondering what you're getting yourself into but it's fantastic. Really cute shop / café in the middle of the forest. Good vibes with very nice workers. I went with my family around 2pm and they were still fairly busy. They said that anything on the menu would take about 30 minutes to make except for the soups - we were pretty hungry and so decided on the soups. The flavors were great but the serving was pretty meager, it was mostly broth. My 7 old said "it's like 3 beans with a spoonful of meat!" I found it pretty overpriced for what we paid. I'm guessing we just came at a bad time and they were just scraping the bottom of the barrel. Maybe they'll see this review and make a note of it for future diners. I'm sure the food is good but charging $18 for a burger with a 30 minute wait is a bit much. I would probably not come back unless it was the only option and they were not crowded. read more

A delightful gem in the Redwoods! A group of us gather annually at a local retreat center and have just started extending our weekend by arriving on Thursday evening. Rather than a potluck with all the cleanup, we tried Loma Mar Store & Kitchen and have a plan for our future events! They quickly and easily accommodated our group (there were 8 of us). Ordering couldn't be better for a large group. No questions about dividing up a final bill -- each person orders their own at the counter and it's brought to the table. The special this particular evening was homemade meatloaf (delicious) with delicious sides. Vegetarian menu options are available. One of the owners, Jeff, stopped to chat and was nice enough to take a group picture for us. Lots of local artisan items available in the store, so look around and support the local community. This is a new discovery... driving west from Hwy 280 on the Sand Hill exit took us into the Redwoods. Heading to this store and kitchen, we enjoyed the scenery and lack of traffic (surprise!) on this Sunday afternoon. We passed a few well-known camping spots: Memorial Park and YMCA Jones Gulch. The drive was only 40 minutes. The store was easy to find, and had plenty of parking. It's an oasis, full of treats, snacks, and tasty food to order... very nice eating areas and decks to enjoy the relaxing view. I had a great Rueben sandwich- well-made, great house made sauce. The duck tacos sounded & looked great too. Nice salads and other sandwiches available. Liked the deviled eggs too. Enjoyed a fresh cup of coffee.
