We walked in with a party of six for an early Thursday dinner around 5:00 p.m. and were seated without a reservation. The restaurant was busy, but service was friendly and efficient. They start you off with complimentary warm bread and butter, which was delicious. We tried the crab cakes, clam chowder, grilled chicken, Brussels sprouts, and fries. The crab cakes were the standout--three flavorful cakes served with a great dipping sauce and a small arugula salad. The Brussels sprouts were also excellent, with grilled sprouts, bacon, goat cheese, and a honey drizzle. The clam chowder was good but not the best we've had. The grilled chicken was a generous portion, though the breast was a little dry, while the thighs and drumsticks were better. Entrées run about $27-$50, making it a bit pricey for what you receive, but the location and convenience are a big part of the experience. For dessert we had a fruit crumble with vanilla ice cream, which might have been the only "miss" of the night. It wasn't bad but the crumble was more oatmeal than crumble for my taste. We were told that booths were being saved for parties of three or four and that the wait for a table would be more than 20 minutes. We decided to wait, but a couple of minutes later we were offered seats at the counter, so we opted to take those instead. What was frustrating was that the very next two parties seated were both parties of two--and both were seated in booths. That simply didn't feel fair. If the policy is that booths are reserved for larger parties, then that policy should be applied consistently to everyone. If the policy doesn't actually apply to parties of two, customers should not be told otherwise. To their credit, both the manager and our server were apologetic when we brought it up, and they did provide a complimentary menu item to make up for the situation. We appreciated that gesture. However, the bigger issue is consistency and fairness. Customers should feel that they are being treated equally, regardless of who they are or when they arrive. A business can have whatever seating policies it chooses, but those policies need to be applied fairly and consistently to all customers. Hopefully, this was an isolated incident and something the management will address with the staff.
