Tired, dirty and dull, this shop needs a facelift. Staff are friendly, and believe they are family, always pleasant, but needs a makeover of some sorts. Not well stocked and it looks like it has been on the shelves for years. read more

I'm not sure when the guys at the superstores ever sleep, or go home, because they are always here…read more Everyone knows everyone at the Superstores, and everyone knows the friendly team who work here. Whenever I am queuing with my pint of milk, one of the staff will ask the following - how is the family/how is business/how is the love life? (answer; great/ok/not so great). Because my name is Cari, one of the guys would give me DVDs of Carry on films when I came in. Cari -Carry -geddit? So, apart from the great owners, for a convenience store, it is pretty comprehensive. If you want fancy veg or a cheese with a French name, I would get thee to Tescos', but this is great for booze, sweets and snacks, and all those non fancy essentials. There is also a coffee and sandwich corner in part of the shop. The food is done by the next door cafe, 5 At The Bridge, so its good.

Marigold Store is a convenience store - you can get all your basics here if you run out of tea bags, milk etc, but what this place is known for is that it is a specialist in Indian curries. This means that at the front counter, they have ready cooked Indian food to take away, such as samosas, bahji's, dahl etc. The rest of the shop is interspersed with absolutely everything that you would need to make your own curry, and things you might not have even heard of. There are huge bags of rice for sale, other grains, so many different types of lentils; and plenty of vegetables and herbs and spices. It is quite unusual to have a shop with this much variety of ethnic food in this area, so if you have not been before, I suggest you head over.

To the untrained eye this may appear to be just another, quite ordinary mini-mart/grocery store…read moretype place but to those in the know, this is in fact, most definitely an average, quite ordinary mini-mart/grocery store type place. It is what it is, a store which serves it's purpose in the community. Local and now recently, open for 24 hours a day. Hats off to the local store! For years now Southfields Food & Wine has competed and stood it's ground with a Budgens on the other side of the road but soon a Tesco Express will be opening just a few doors down. This probably being the reason they decided to take the step of staying open 24 hours a day. A small edge on the competition. Inside is probably as one would expect. They do, however, have quite a good variety in their stock and you're likely to pick up more than you intended to during a visit. Although, one may usually expect that to happen anyway. The down side is that Southfields Food & Wine does cost a little more than one would hope. And there you have it! Ian.

There is nothing that makes this store worth travelling miles just to see (it is, after all, just a grocer-type place) but when your are here you'll see that it is worthy of it's four stars. It does indeed sell everything you would expect of a convenience store - with a healthy alcohol section (substantial, not necessarily good for you) - but that should only really equate to 3 stars in my eyes. The fourth star is awarded for the level of cleanliness and the sense of order here at G Express. ALL of the aisles are well stocked with a large variety of goods, neat, tidy well arranged. But the best part of it is that G Express became the first place where it was so clean I could see my own reflection in the floor! THE FLOOR! Alright, it's not like looking straight into a mirror but the are definite outlines and facial features visible, I could clearly see me - in the floor! Awesome floor. That aside, the staff are all quite chilled and friendly and an impressive modern computer system is running there which includes a large flat-screen TV which doubles up as their CCTV when their not watching football or their favourite show. What a convenience store, TTFN, Ian
