I moved to New Hampshire for the first time at age 44 in 2014 and was attracted by the splashy website offering "Luxury Apartments " and photos of a fun lifestyle and promises of remodeled dream living. We were shown a 2 bedroom units and told all units were being remodeled as they were vacancies. We reluctantly agreed to the high rent and thought we were doing a honest thing by only listing my fiancee as a lessee and resident as my recent felony conviction and credit and references destroyed by prison would have excluded me. I knew I had changed and would be a model Tennant as I have been for 17 months. On move in day, we found we were not given new counters or kitchen cabinets as promised and main air conditioner was clanking and not cool. Carpets and bedroom a/c were new as we're appliances and paint, although in our initial complaint list we noted the problems I mentioned and that there was excess paint on all doors and almost all surfaces. We were embarrassed upon meeting our downstairs neighbor, a crazy acting fool as she said her job was all the paint work and did we just love our place? The property Manger Sherry who amazes me that she works selling anything is curt and very difficult to deal with although she keeps her Mercedes coupe right at the main entrance. We were told our unit was only a "partial remodel " and repairs to counters and cabinets were refused, and paint splashes were explained as "normal issues " that we could clean ourselves. The a/c unit was tested and we were told it would not be replaced until fully nonfunctional. For 2 summers we have dealt with its poor quality and always planned an "accident " to get it replaced but it is still clanking and rattling as always requiring the 2nd unit to be run at all times to cool unit. The kitchen appliances although new, are extremely low end without any features or safety attachments but most of all, the GE dishwasher just plain sucks. Any scrap of food on dishes stays on and after washing everything has a scum film. We finally found a soap that makes it work slightly better, but we wash most dishes by hand. The apartment does not have a single item in it that I would consider "luxury " it is all made to look ok as cheap as possible. Bathroom is new but drains clog often and old floor tiles were left chipped and discolored. Not luxury living. We were fairly happy the first year as we spruced up the place at our own expense, and happily 2 cats are allowed for $50 per month extra. My fiancee renewed the lease in June, we just weren't able to move and we added a carport for $40 per month and had a $40 rent increase. Due to my record I did not apply even on second lease even though I had been a perfect Tennant for 12 months and routinely called Sherry on all maintenance issues. I picked up the garage lease and left my fiancee check with Sherry saying I would have Jennifer sign it and return it, at that point Sherry who knew me quite well said I could sign the garage lease and accepted the check. A week later when I called in about a clogged drain Sherry seemed to freak out as she realized I was not on the lease, and called my fiancee directly at work and essentially babled at length about how I had to apply and be approved in order to stay. I filled ou1t the application honestly including credit and criminal issues and after a tense week we called Sherry who said my app was fine. The apartment has a pool but we were not told it is shared by condo across street and is always full and dirty. There have been a fire, a sexual offender arrest and a resident who got caught having her 5 year old operate her school bus for safety checks. Most residents are young with lots of little kids. There is constant construction activity and poor property maintenance. The only good feature is excellent soundproof walls that block unusual neighborhood yelling and help keep the constant odor of Marijuana in the halls and out of our place. We had a good life here though with new love and a new home together and can ignore the lack of any comfort here. A few weeks ago we realized we haven't paid any of the $50 peri month for the cats, but after checking to be sure we listed them both twice in writing we don't intend to. If you want a quiet decent place London court is ok. Otherwise avoid false ads and sales pitch with research. read more
