    Halstead Merrimack

    Halstead Merrimack

    (6 reviews)

I've lived at Halstead Merrimack, managed by Bozzuto Property Management, for some time and cannot…read morerecommend it. Though it looks appealing at first, the day-to-day experience falls short. They advertise "luxury living" but fail on the basics. TL;DR: There are many similarly priced options nearby--look into those before choosing Halstead. Be wary: the leasing office often runs contests for reviews. I suspect many glowing reviews come from prize-seekers, as they need to send a screenshot of the review to management (who is going to submit a negative review to the person in charge of selecting the winner? Also, I've never seen winners announced). Everything below is my honest experience. Inside the Apartment (GRADE: B) *Noise & Insulation: Road noise is noticeable; windows are drafty, and heating costs can be high. Good soundproofing between units. *Finishes: Appliances and fixtures are builder-grade, not luxury. *Hot Water: Takes a long time to reach taps. *Bathroom Heat: No heat source and the fan runs constantly--very cold in winter. Outside the Apartment (GRADE: F) *Landscaping: Poorly maintained; as of May 12th, grass is overgrown--worse than nearby commercial buildings. It's embarrassing. *Cleanliness: Dog poop is a recurring issue. Management should address it. *Noise: Close to a highway and a noisy road frequented by loud vehicles. *Parking: Guest parking is especially limited. Leasing Office (GRADE: D) *Friendly during lease-up, but indifferent once you're in. I'll spare more details--consider this a warning. Maintenance Team (GRADE: A) *Responsive and helpful on the rare occasions I've needed them. Price to Value (GRADE: C) *Premium rent isn't justified by the experience. *Reports of steep rent hikes forcing tenants out. *Extra costs: $150/month per garage spot, $40-$60/month storage, $50/month per pet. Other Considerations *Bozzuto Management: Senior staff are polite but unhelpful in resolving issues. *Tenants: Mostly good people, with a few bad apples. *Construction Concerns: A sprinkler pipe burst and displaced residents for two months (and counting!)--raises red flags. *Community Events: Poorly executed--minimal food and drink. Other complexes do much better. Conclusion Halstead Merrimack looks nice in photos but doesn't deliver. With noise, lackluster units, poor service, and high rent, it's not worth it. I've held up my end--on-time rent--but Halstead has fallen short.

I signed a contract to stay for 30 days due to a life altering event, and was charged $3500. I ended up only being able to stay for three nights until I was forced to nope the heck out of there. On day 3 of my stay, I encountered disgusting bugs on and under the living room couch. After playing toys on the carpet with my two year old daughter, I discovered our socks had become a new level of filthy that can only be described as management neglect. I took pictures of what I encountered and went to the front desk to explain my situation in the morning. There is no way I can have my two year old playing on a carpet in such disgusting conditions. Not to mention the bedroom windows don't fully close after they've been opened leaving you to enjoy the sound of traffic from DW Highway all night as well as the crisp New England fall air draft. The woman at the front desk saw the pictures and agreed that at a minimum, we were entitled to and paid for a clean hotel room. She took my information and assured me the 'manager' would be in contact and should be willing to negotiate my rate. They tried to offer us another unit, but at that point, I can't trust any of their other units would pass the basic standard of cleanliness. The manger has never reached out and I have received no reimbursement. I've made several calls since I checked out early and have repeatedly been promised their manager would reach out to offer some type of refund. I've never received a response. I think we all can agree that 3 nights at the Roach Motel should not cost $3500 and at the very least, they should have worked with me to negotiate some type of reimbursement. Don't waste your money and if you do, BYOBB - BRING YOUR OWN BUG BOMBS!!

Text never came so I called her before we hit the road and I received it shortly after. She called me before leaving for the night to make sure I'd get my keys with no problem. This trip was a 2 night stay. Entering our room it was noticeably unkept. There was a lot of dust, furniture had a lot of stains on them, there was a used quitip on the floor of our bathroom, and the fridge had a weird smell to it. Also everything seemed to be oddly at an angle. Our bedroom door wouldn't shut because one side of the door was too short to click in, our kitchen had a huge dip in the floor, and when I put my shampoo on the side of the bathtub it kept falling over. Another thing was we had left to go shopping for the next day and when we came back around 4p our room hadn't been serviced. It was frustrating but not anything that would ruin our trip. The surrounding area has some nice shopping, the Anheuser-Busch brewery, and food options. All in all this trip was ok. If the rooms had TLC I think it could've been great.

Before they left, one of the mover told my husband it should have been put in first and was not. The photos are from the morning after they left. You can visibly see the fold in the Tempur-pedic mattress. When we tried to hold it up to see if we could stabilize it, one of our three pictures we had "professionally" packed was being leaned on by the mattress. The box was bending. The professional packing consisted of two cardboard panels taped together. The frame of our Thomas Kinkad painting was hanging out with the tape on it. We were charged for 5 hours of labor plus for the "professional" packing of the painting. My husband tip the movers in cash. They were nice guys. We let them take a bunch of things we had out our goodwill pile which took away from the time we were charged for labor. I contacted the office the following day via email with the photos attached. The office manager and I corresponded via email. On 9/24, they agreed mattress should have been placed against the wall to ensure the flatness of it and strapped down. She did note we had not rented or purchase any straps from them. The crew did stated to her they thought the picture was more secure than the pictures show and assumed it moved during transport of the MI-BOX. (THE POD HAD NOT BEEN MOVED BETWEEN THEM LEAVING AND WHEN THE PICTURES ATTACHED WERE TAKEN). Included in the office manager's response was: " Typically, College Bound Movers is not liable for items once the doors to the MI-BOX close. Any claims would go against go against your content's insurance. You did provide your homeowners for coverage. As a customer service courtesy, i am going to offer you a customer service refund of one hour labor time and the mattress cover." I responded back to the office manager the same day. The "assumption" on their part that the paintings shifted during transport was not true. The POD had not left the driveway between the time they left & the pictures were taken. It's a week later and there has been no further correspondence from her.

The estimate was sent to us within the hour. They said they would call with the pickup time. The called with the arrival time. They called the morning of the move to tell us that they were on their way. Nick, Alex and Ryan were extremely professional. They wrapped some of wooden furniture. They finished loading the truck. Once at our new home and the unloading began. They had everything in and put things where they belonged. Asked questions about where to put things. The entire move took less time than the estimate. If we would need movers again we would use College Bound Movers and asked for Nick, Alex, and Ryan. Thank You for the awesome service. Tim and Roberta Courtney

They failed to perform work they billed for, which led to mold growth, and it took another month for them to return and fix their mistake. Over a year later, they are now demanding payment without providing an invoice for insurance or me to review (neither an Xactimate or TradePro estimate for $10K of work), while threatening interest charges and property liens. Despite advertising that they work with insurance companies, they refused to coordinate with mine. Very frustrating, lengthy and unprofessional experience. I'll post again if this is ever resolved! Please note the workers were helpful and respectful of me and my property, the billing and project management process are just horrible.

From the moment they twisted my parents' arms to sign on the dotted line (at the scene of the fire, no less), to the lies the salesman told (we take care of *everything*, you will not need to do a *thing*, just sit back and let us do everything), to lack of communication, to the delivery of items back to the house. Mom's large china hutch was moved out of the house by movers for fear of breaking it. Eleven months later, it was delivered back to us - and it had not been cleaned! It was still black from soot! We went around testing the other furniture and while the flat surfaces were cleaned, none of the "nooks & crannies" were touched - still black from soot. We requested that they come back to do the job, and no one is calling us back. STAY AWAY FROM SERVICEMASTER!!

Was expecting Sal's employees to do the work. 2. Project started with power washing the house during which some sidding was torn off the house. The sidding on the house is cedar. Sal took the cost and materials to repair the siding off the bill. 3. Day 2 half the house was scrapped, bear spots primed and painted. 52 minutes later it started to rain, hard. Been painting my differant houses for 30+ years and know that rain effects fresh paint. Was told don't worry it should have dried before the rain. 4. Day 3 the rest of the house was painted and the siding repaired and a rotted window sill replaced. The painters were good and waited a couple of hours for the house to dry before painting. 5. Later found that an entire side of my brick chimney that runs up the outside of my home had a fair amount of over spray on it. And the kicker, Sal was in a rush to collect payment stopping by to pick up a check not wanting it to be mailed. I also got dunning emails from his online payment system the day after the check was cashed. Got the sense that the company was more interested in time to money than quality of work. Quoted 5 to 6 day job done in 2.5 days. Highly doubtful that I would ever hire this company again.
