Afternoon tea in June 2017. $14/person. Scone plus 3 small desserts.

Nice little heritage house with a tea room on the first floor. It's free admission, and the house is quite small. The afternoon tea was affordable at $14/person, but it's just one scone plus three mini desserts, so don't come too hungry. Food tasted okay. Service was fine. I think the people who work there are volunteers? We did get the wrong flavour scone (ordered one blueberry and one plain but got two plain), but no big deal.

    * Want some contraband preserves or to meet some potentially psychologically challenged chickens? Read on. * This 19th century farmhouse has been turned into a public historical site and makes a quaint stop if you happen to be nearby. It has been fully restored to show what life was like back in the late 1800's. The highlight of the site is the tea room (see photos). It is nothing fancy, but a very pleasant spot overlooking the gardens of the house. They don't serve proper afternoon tea per se. But you do get a nice pot of "London Lady" tea which is a black tea with a floral fruity hint. It is pleasant. They also serve some housemade scones, preserves, and cookies. They use a mismatched set of china cups, saucers and dessert plates, and tea is served in bone china teapots. No high quality porcelain (yes, I admit to liking to drink my tea out of a nice thin Limoges instead), but gives a nice vibe overall. Everything tastes very homemade. So much so that in the little gift shop area they sell the preserves and have a sign that says something along the lines of, "These preserves are not regulated or inspected by any health authority" - didn't know that was legal? Are these contraband non-regulated hard core preserves? But since it is owned by the City of Richmond I guess it is "ok."? Feels illicit somehow! Tried the strawberry (that is what was served with the scones) and it was a very nice preserve with whole chunks of berries in it without being overly sweet. I didn't get sick or anything - so I imagine it would pass regulatory screening if need be! After tea, headed out and wandered around the gardens a bit. They have a chicken coop with some free range chickens that is labeled "Chicken Club." I couldn't help but wonder what the chickens would think if they knew that by reading that sign I was immediately picturing them grilled on a sandwich with bacon, lettuce, and tomato. Hm.....

First time at this heritage house/farm with a touch of old England. The house is delightful and the setting of the tea room is cosy. The tea called London Lady Tea was one of the best I have ever had. Food was just as good: just enough to keep you going till dinner! Would be lovely to come back in summer when the gardens are blooming. Check out their website as they have seasonal teas!!!!

Did you ever want to have a cup of tea in what is essentially a cheap trinket/dollar store? Well…read more You can do that here. I am not sure if this is more of a dollar store, or a tea house; it doesn't look like it is doing either very well. I didn't take tea here, and you couldn't pay me to do so. You can eat lunch here, and maybe it is good, but I didn't trust the look of the "kitchen." The selection of tea is all store bought, low grade tea. The seating area feels like it is in the middle of a store -- and it is. For ambiance you can listen to Mandarin music being played on a laptop while the ice cream freezer hums endlessly next to your elbow. I really don't know what to make of this place. There are much better places in Steveston to have high tea, lunch, or just a cuppa. I'd personally give this place a really wide berth.

June D's review made me laugh. She's totally right…read more However, I came here for ice cream. And I never set foot inside because the mess of chotchkies inside would have really stressed me out. No thank you. It was nice sunny afternoon and I was stuffed with fish and chips from Pajo's, so the next logical step was a scoop of ice cream. What say you? $1.50 a scoop?! Give me a double! Actually, no, I stuck with a single scoop but upgraded to a waffle cone. I was going all out on this one. After perusing the menu of flavors, I settled on a classic -- Butter Pecan. I was with Kwokmun L who got a pistachio gelato and Christian H who got the tiger tail. I'd never before heard of this flavor and as much as I wanted to hate it (licorice and orange), it was actually pretty interesting. My butter pecan ice cream was good. The price was great. The location was weird. Here's why... we tried to check in and failed. See, the sign outside says Sara's Old Fashioned Ice Cream. We managed to check into a place called Sarah's with an H. Then we found Sara's. Turned out, Sara's is a place in Delta, and Sarah's is a place just around the corner on Moncton which is a completely different establishment. I noticed some of the reviews there are actually for here. I tried to call Sarah's to find out why there's sign for Sara's just around the corner but was unable to reach anyone for discussion. It's all just so confusing. I still don't understand "Cottage Tea Room". I would NEVER go here for tea. It's a tacky store with ice cream served through the window. What part of this place is either a cottage or a tea room?
