He took my vision for an ADU (for my disabled elderly father-in-law), and helped turn it into something even better than we imagined. What started as a rundown 900-square-foot shed became a beautiful, high-end apartment in our backyard. Every construction project has its challenges, and ours was no exception. What set Ari and his team apart was how consistently patient, solution-oriented, and steady they were at every turn. Here are the projects that we have used him for: 1. Installation of a Gladiator Garage storage shelf space - he placed it perfectly in the area that we wanted. It was well secured and has provided an extra storage space in our small garage. He checked in with us each step of the installation to make sure that we were satisfied with all aspects of the job. 2. Leak repair with mold remediation, insulation and drywall/baseboard repair in our dining room - he located the leak, cleaned out the area between the studs (including sealing an opening to the outside wall, which we didn't know about), treated for some mold that was present and then reinstalled the insulation, finished the drywall and painted the area. This included removing the baseboards and reinstalling/matching them, re-applied the orange peel texture and then painting to a perfect finish. You would never have known there was a leak there. He even replaced the outdoor spigot that was on the other side of the leaking pipe! 3. Roof truss repair in the garage - Jaime noticed when he was installing the garage storage shelf that the joints of a few of the roof trusses had separated when he was surveying the beams in the attic space. He showed us the issue and we asked him if that was something he could repair as well...he said absolutely. After getting the truss connector parts, he went up....pulled the joints together and repaired them....this is one of those hidden issues that can be catastrophic if left unresolved. Jaime will always be our "go to" repair professional. He has broad knowledge of residential buildings and is professional, pleasant and reasonable.....He is a 5-star resource. In my initial outreach, I explicitly stated that this was a virtual consultation and outlined the scope in detail. Ryan responded that he could handle the work and was interested. We confirmed logistics multiple times, including the evening before and again the morning of the appointment. My client rearranged her schedule, and I rearranged mine to coordinate a live virtual walkthrough at the property. Ryan did not arrive at the agreed-upon time. After the scheduled time passed, I called -- no answer. I sent a message asking him to confirm arrival -- no response. Two and a half hours later, he sent a message stating he had been "warned to stay away from these types of jobs" and apologized. There was no prior indication of hesitation, concern, or limitation in scope. If he was unwilling or uncomfortable with the nature of the job, that should have been communicated before confirming and causing both myself and my client to restructure our day. Reliability and communication are non-negotiable in client-facing industries. Unfortunately, this experience demonstrated neither. I cannot recommend based on this interaction. ***Update*** *Ryan attempted to dodge accountability by replying on Thumbtack that he was not given a clear scope. I'm a tough critic with contractors. Detail-oriented, a bit of a perfectionist, and probably not…read morethe easiest homeowner to work with. So I don't say this lightly: Laguna Landscaping is by far the best contractor I've ever worked with. We've now used them at two houses. After getting a pool built by a different company, we brought them in to redo all of our landscaping, and working with Frank has been seamless. It was a large project and every detail was accounted for. With all contracting projects there are minor mistakes and oversights, because as the homeowner I know exactly what I envisioned and they're juggling three or four jobs. When our pool was being built by Denali Pools, I felt like I had to project manage every step. Laguna was the polar opposite. The team was always happy, always polite, even waved when you saw them. Frank turned up after we'd finalized the designs and suggested an extra planter and a tweak to the paving stones, both better than what we'd planned. When something wasn't right, there was no defensiveness. It's a large project, we expect a few tweaks. For example, the wrong lights got installed along the pathway. I contacted Frank and it wasn't a debate, it was "we'll change them." Then he came back and told me the lights I described were different from the original plan, he checked that I actually wanted spotlights, and confirmed before ordering. He listened to what I'd asked for over the original plan. The communication was on point. Every question got answered, and his suggestions were consistently better than anything I'd anticipated. Little things too, like laying drop cloths after the pool work so nobody trailed dirt through the yard. That care shows in the output and along the way. Laguna also does regular yard maintenance, and after this experience we're moving all our ongoing landscaping to them. My one hesitation going in was cost. This isn't a cheap project and Laguna isn't a cheap company. However, they are worth every dollar. At our previous house we'd had a cheaper company build a retaining wall, and Laguna had to come fix it. The quality, the detail, the thinking outside the box, the double-checking before they order anything, it's incredible. Next level service, next level professionalism, next level care. I'd recommend them to anyone, always. If there was a rating higher than 5 stars I would give it to them.
