Eleanor is great! We adopted a 3-month-old puppy in June 2020 from the SF SPCA. We were having a lot of problems with him grabbing stuff off the ground and eating it. It made walks and being outside generally unenjoyable. The last straw came when Scout snagged a rib bone that was hidden under a bush and swallowed it before we could get it from him. After emergency surgery and a pricey veterinary bill, we reached out to multiple trainers that we had already been using, but nobody wanted to touch this issue. We kept getting referred around and finally we were referred to Eleanor. Fast forward to the first visit and she immediately spotted issues we were having with Scout that we hadn't even mentioned in our initial correspondence. The idea that June Bug was ever going to be controllable seemed like a fantasy, but now, incredibly, because of Eleanor, she's a lovely, obedient, happy dog who we can take off leash at parks without fear she'll run off or do something crazy. She uses a highly effective, thorough method that works for busy peopele who don't want to spend hours a day training. Rather than compressing a lot of training into a short period of time, her course takes place over months and allows you to learn and train at a pace that's realistic for both you and your dog. If you only believe in using positive reinforcement and think your dog should have free rein in your house, Eleanor is not for you. This is long overdue -- it's been several months since I frantically approached Eleanor for help with my shepherd mix who was being aggressive toward one of my cats and other dogs on walks. I can't believe I haven't left a review for Eleanor yet. I recommend her to everyone I meet that's looking for dog training. I have a crazy husky/Jindo mix named Ender that I'd just kind of learned to live with his random bad traits. I went to Eleanor with the goal of getting him capable of at least some off leash ability because he is so high energy and I wanted to be able to let him run safely in a place larger than my little yard. I didn't really have much hope of something super reliable. Whenever I'd tried taking him off leash even with no distractions he'd go nuts and romping through bushes not even staying on the trail. Not only did Eleanor help me train a reliable off leash dog, but she also helped overall with my communication with my dog so he is less anxious (something I never thought would go away) because he knows what I'm expecting of him. He was such an anxious dog that sometimes on walks he'd randomly smell the air and then buck in the leash to go home in complete terror. That no longer happens. My dog Harley (a belgian malinois border collie mix) became aggressive at around a year and a half old when she bit someone she didn't know that came into the house. I was totally freaked out and I called a ton of trainers that said they couldn't guarantee anything with aggressive dogs, they wanted $250 just to meet us to see if they wanted to work with us or, my favorite, they just never called back. We resorted to keeping Harley from meeting new people unless they were definitely going to be around her a lot moving forward. It was a really stressful and scary process for me because I didn't trust my dog. I loved her and knew she was great and extremely gentle with people she knew but I didn't trust her with new people. Fast forward three years and I'm 8 months pregnant with our first baby. We were hoping for the best but my husband and I had agreed that we needed to be prepared to give Harley away if she wasn't okay with the baby. When I heard about Eleanor and the fact that she had two malinois I was hesitantly optimistic that she might be able to "fix" Harley. We talked on the phone for over an hour before we met. By the end of the conversation I felt like she really knew us and what we wanted and she was honest about what we should expect from the training. When she came to the house for our first session it went a million times better than I ever could have imagined! Every exercise she'd bring up I'd say "Oh that won't be easy" or "Harley will flip out barking" and every single time Eleanor introduced the exercise in such a way that Harley was calm and well behaved the entire time! I'm so glad we made the choice to work with Eleanor. We'd had our 2-year old pit mix for about a year when we reached out to her, and we were starting to figure out what specific things were challenging with him. We'd gone through the basic humane society class, which was good, but we felt like we needed more one-one-one support, especially around how to manage his interactions with other dogs.  Eleanor took the time to understand our dynamics and habits, and our dog's behavior in different circumstances. She then helped us identify strategies to build a better foundation for training, and to communicate more effectively with him. We can do all kinds of things now that we couldn't do before working with Eleanor: let him run around off leash, introduce him to (some) other dogs, walk without pulling, play without going totally nuts, lay down and wait until we tell him not to, etc. We also understand some limitations we need to respect -- e.g. dogs parks are never gonna be a good fit for this guy. Bottom Line: Eleanor is fantastic and the training program we completed far exceeded my initial expectations. I'll start by saying I fluctuated between thinking "my dog absolutely needs training and I need help ASAP" and "it's not that bad, I can handle this on my own maybe with the help of online tutorials." The cost, the commitment, and the fear of being judged as a dog owner made me reluctant to sign on. If you're on the fence like I was, I recommend calling Eleanor. Any hesitation I had went out the window after a 45-60 minute phone call. She doesn't judge or place blame for past mistakes but evaluates and proactively suggests steps to take that will make you feel more confident as a dog owner and in turn, make your dog appreciate rules, structure and clear guidance. Hands down my dog is 100% better than she was prior to training with Eleanor. I knew from the first session it was going to be life changing for me and my dog. My dog had reactivity where she'd lunge and snarl at other dogs, she pulled on the leash making neighborhood walks a challenge and her anxiety was leading her to chew items in the house and also occasionally urinate indoors. Fast forward to Eleanor's training and now my dog understands my expectations for her because I provide clear guidance and she is no longer reactive towards other dogs because she's learned (and I've learned) how to not make those interactions fearful. My dog has been reprogrammed to not anticipate every interaction with another dog as a negative experience and I'm not longer anxious about those interactions. Skills we've learned: loose-leash walking, down-stay, polite greetings with other dogs/people, waiting patiently for things, appropriate play with other dogs, recall while off-leash, basic commands of sit, stay, settle on bed, crate training, and some fun agility skills like jumping onto objects. I also learned how to use training tools to stop my dog from chasing birds, cows and other animals. The list goes on and on. Eleanor's approach to the training is professional, caring, non-judgmental, compassionate, clear, and hands-on. She is just a terrific human being all around. Eleanor has been an invaluable resource to me and my retriever puppy Eddie. She helped me understand how setting boundaries (i.e. tiedown) could teach Eddie to self-regulate his nervous system vs. needing to wear him out or entertain him constantly to make him a good dog. She also taught us how to walk politely on leash, how to curb undesirable and potentially dangerous habits (like eating every thing he sees on the ground), and ways to strengthen recall and our bond. Eleanor was (and still is) very professional, she took the time to understand how Pepper was reacting to different situations, how we were also reacting to those situations and what is her routine like, then she explained how she could help, and made sure we were ready for it. From there, we then started the program, and magic started to happen! Eleanor adapted the training based on Pepper's needs, and we had constant communication and feedback when we wanted. We also loved the ability to talk to her other clients in the program so we could share ideas, training advices, feedback, and even do walks together. I'm happy to say that we now understand Pepper much better and she is much more relaxed in general but also with strangers, during walks and when encountering other dogs! Day to day, we are also very in sync with her, and our relationship with her is stronger than ever! We can happily go on or off leash and be confident that with the tools and tips Eleanor taught us, we are in control! The training was worth every penny and even more as it exceeded our expectations! I think she understands our dog and us and the training is definitely as much for us as the dog. We adopted a sweet, but insecure and unpredictable young dog and Eleanor's clear and consistent advise has been so helpful. She's very flexible about when and where we do the training sessions and she's very thoughtful about what would be most helpful for us and our dog. She's also been extremely responsive to my intermittent texts and emails asking for specific advise about situations. It's shocking to be those people with the dog who's so well trained that when we're hiking on a trail she goes into a "down" when a bike goes by and stays there calmly until it passes. Best decision ever was to have Eleanor as our trainer. Our whippet was reacting to dogs and my (and her) anxiety were so bad, I was feeling hopeless in having her be outdoors on leash around other dogs, let alone off leash. This was breaking my heart, knowing how much she loves to run. Eleanor has helped us understand the things that were going on (high anxiety, reaction, whining, jumping) and given us the tools to finally make serious progress. I'm so beyond happy and grateful to have her guide us with Nala. We now are able to happily (and much less anxious!) be on and off leash outdoors, and have learned to see signs of behaviors that could potentially cause problems. Eleanor is the absolute best! We brought home our first dog, and after our little puppy grew into a strong 90lb dog we realized we needed help. I was being dragged down the street by my dog and him ignoring me at the dog park. After our first meeting with Eleanor I knew she was going to be the one to help us out. I cannot say enough good things about Eleanor. We had tried all those puppy classes, but nothing was helping because our dog lacks food motivation, Eleanor didn't let that hinder our training and helped us find the right tools to motivate our dog. We are still working with Eleanor and will continue to do so! She's helped us achieve so much and makes me want to continue training. I'm excited to see how far we can go with our training. We are now able to walk our dog with ease around any obstacle, take him off leash anywhere and not have to worry about it. She helped us take our absolutely crazy puppy to a well behaved dog. Eleanor is very hands on and willing to help. She makes herself available and is very encouraging. If you will invest your time then she will invest hers and help you build your confidence in your dog as well as strengthen your relationship with your dog.
