I have a few different things that I was disappointed about. I am disappointed that I was made to pay for a visit to discuss test results when it could've been discussed with me over the phone. Also this was a follow up "visit" from my annual. I have had this experience before and I was never asked to pay for my follow up appt and I was told "it's a part of your annual, you don't need to. It's covered." when I asked at Lone Star Medical why I needed to pay for a follow up visit, her answer at the front desk was "it's $25 :)". So I was like whatever, just get it over with. But I don't think that was fair. On regards to the provider care, I was told everything was fine -many things were, but not everything. I caught a low level for something on my bloodwork and a high one that's been alarming for me for a couple of years now and my provider just goes "it's not bad". But I do have several symptoms of something "unknown" and "undiagnosed" things that aren't normal. The wait times when I was scheduled and fasted was insane. The lab provider was amazing! 5 stars to her. In all senses. Great at her work and she deserves a raise! Also, I had recommended a friend so she could have her annual visit and we both are new patients, however, they never ever called her back to schedule hers. Of course she ended up going somewhere else. I just wish this town would have better options that take insurance and provide caring care. Not business care. My provider, however, the great things I can say is that she has an amazing personality and made me feel like home while in the office visit with her. However, communication after my appointment didn't meet my expectations. read more

I have been going to Lonestar Medical for over 10 years now. While no one really enjoys going to the doctor, Lonestar Medical makes it a breeze. I see Dr. Jay Gruhlkey and it is always a pleasant experience. You really have to appreciate his professional, yet laid back jeans and a button up shirt and cowboy boots, approach to medical care. He has never steered me wrong, and his bedside manner is outstanding. Listens to your issues, does not judge, and explores all options to treat your issues. Highly recommend him. He is hard to get in to see, but if you have time to wait, definitely try to. read more

My kiddo usually goes to Lonestar for her physical. This time, we brought her in for a sports related injury. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The facility is clean. No complaints for service. FYI, If you have Tricare, this is not the place to go for an emergency. We paid out of pocket out of necessity. We did find out that most ER/Urgent Care in the area do not accept Tricare, except for the newly opened Methodist ER. read more

Began seeing Gruhlkey since 2006-husband too. Back then he had a smaller practice but it has grown into Lonestar Medical. He is very professional. Gets to the point. Be prepared to discuss your reason for a visit. He is personable and pleasant. I love all his staff having seen Mrs. Sue and Dr. Williams. They always seem to have samples of things you need. The nurses, like Ms Angel are wonderful and great about calling back. The place is always super clean and from check in, to triage and phlebotomists, the employees are easy going. Can't imagine having another place to trust for regular checkups or when I am ill. Love the place! read more

This rating is solely based on the fact of the inability to get an appointment. My wife and I lost our PCP and needed a new one. We saw the great reviews of this place and decided to try this place. It is close and was taking new patients. We called several times over many days and no one ever answered the phone. We even went online to try and get a response to no avail. I told her this was not a good sign and we should just write this place off. If we can't get a hold of them now, what would it be like if we were sick and needed to see someone? She wanted to give walking in the office a try and see what the deal was. So, we stopped in and were told we needed to forward our records over to them and they would look them over to see if they would accept you. I guess to see if we were worthy, Idk? Also, they said there were 200 people ahead of us and the earliest appointment we could possibly get was December. Anyway, we decided not to play that game and said no thanks. On the way out, we asked why no one would answer the phone? They said they were busy. Wow. Fyi, we finally got a call from them today inquiring about our left messages for an appointment. Great doctors horrible service . Dr Williams is great. It is virtually impossible to get anything scheduled. They do not answer the phone but rather let you go to voicemail and call you back at their convenience... hope you're available when they call at random... could be that day, could be a couple days later. If you try the online booking, all you do is enter your information in so they can call you at their convenience yet again. I had a great experience as a new patient of Sue Brandt, NP. She was very knowledgeable about my age appropriate preventative care and I felt very comfortable with her. She was very thorough and answered any questions I had. My experience from front office staff, nurse getting vitals and medical history, Provider, exam and labs was great! The staff is wonderful and they care. Yes, they are busy as can be, that is because the the quality care. I really did a number to the top of my right hand, which was expose down to the nerves and bones. Angel, took me right back to be taken care of. I must say I had blood all over, shirt and towels. Dr. Gruhlkey had no problem in putting in about 12 or more stitches. I also go to the good doctor for all my other medical concerns, especially for my high blood pressure. Sue is so personable and first thing she does is out rule the things you would worry about the most then does further tests or images right away. Dr. Williams was so incredible and patient. Both my parents were new patients and required my presence to help with the translation. The entire staff was so easy and fantastic to work with and made both of their appointments stress free and didn't even notice the language barrier. Now we all have joined the practice and are very loyal. Making appointments was so easy. Every time I got a call back within minutes and they were able to work around everyone's schedule. First place that didn't not require my involvement when dealing with insurance and everything was coded properly and in timely manner. And Dr. Williams is simply the best. Was very thorough, attentive and professional. If you fill out the paperwork ahead of your appointment (as you are asked to), there is zero wait time in the lobby. Every single appointment has been conducted right on the dot. Great practice for the entire family, their NP sees kids as well which makes it very convenient. read more

Attempted to make an appointment. Explained I don't have insurance and don't have a primary care physician and just had spent 1000.00 at a specialist in Austin. I asked what the office visit would be (avg in the area is 65-150) and was told I wouldnt know until the Dr coded it. I asked for a range and was told it would probably be $360!!!! Lonestar Medical was recommended by my flight school so I made an appointment for my FAA Medical Certificate. I live in San Antonio, so driving to New Braunfels was not optimal, but they came recommended so I made the appointment. During the 45 min drive to the office, it started to rain and I-35 became bumper to bumper and I arrived 13 minutes late to my appointment. The person at the counter said that the doctor does not see patients who are late and that I would have to reschedule. I explained that I had driven from San Antonio, but there was no sympathy. I've never heard so much misinformation come from a single doctor in all my life. His complete lack of knowledge will shake your confidence in western medicine. examples: -food allergies are caused by not vaccinating your child enough because vaccines are required to challenge the immune system so we can eat food (utter bs, how did cavemen ever survive?) -peanut allergies are caused by genetically modified peanuts (again, utter bs, gmo peanuts are illegal to sell in or out of the US) -your child should not have an epi pen prescription unless he has an anaphylactic reaction to a peanut skin test (it is so rare for one to have a swollen tongue and labored breathing from having peanuts on their skin and yet eating peanuts could still kill them) Go see Dr. Dilley in San Antonio instead. read more

I moved from St. Louis area where Barnes Jewish Christian Hospital is basically king of the hospitals throughout the US. I was concerned about finding specialists as I am a breast cancer survivor and had all Washington University physicians in St. Louis. However. I have been to the practice twice. The first time I was able to get a same day sick appointment as a new patient. The staff is friendly, the office is nice and clean. I've been seen by the NP (who unfortunately moved), and also by the PA Jan who was thorough and listened to my concerns. I highly recommend this office. read more
