We were patients for many, many years. We had amazing experiences with every doctor, nurse, secretary and staff member prior to the corporate take-over. We left the practice due to this (and our pediatrician retiring). Even when the company was bought-out, the local staff were so great. However...Due to the corporate take-over, the management of New Braunfels Pediatrics has gone downhill. I requested in early August that both of my children's records be transferred to their new local pediatrician office in town. There is a partnership with the medical records department that funnels into Vital Charts. Between New Braunfels Pediatrics and Vital Charts and a lot of hand-holding by me (Mom), it took 32 business days for my children's records to be received. The New Braunfels Pediatrics' office manager contacted me twice (once per my request and once on her own accord to follow up), but I was not contacted after the records were in the possession of the new pediatrician's office to verify with me. One of my children has an ongoing medical condition. The fact that his new doctor did not have access to his life record for that long is completely unprofessional and uncalled for. I, at one point, requested they drive the records over themselves, or me coming up there for them to print their records, and was denied because they can't authorize the release of the records, Vital Charts has to. They were being transferred to a local office, a 10 minute drive away. Shame on New Braunfels Pediatrics for allowing this long of a gap and shame on Vital Charts for taking so long to properly release these records. Parents should not have to hold the hands of the medical secretaries to ensure records are where they need to be. IF NB Pediatrics handled their business IN HOUSE (like they used to) I know it would have been handled in a timely manner. Thankfully the issue is now resolved, but it took at least 5 phone calls to both agencies, along with a threat of reporting, for this to actually get done. read more

The doctor we saw was not very good with kids. My concerns were dismissed not satisfied and a little disappointed

My son has seen the same pediatrician since birth so I was a little skeptical having to switch him.... I walked into the office and was immediately given horrible vibes from the *young little blonde* at the front. She was rude, very unwelcoming and I could go on but I won't because the sweet lady who did my sons eye exam and MISS REAGAN/REGAN were both absolutely amazing. All of my worries and concerns were immediately gone when Miss Reagan walked into the room. She made us both feel so welcomed, and she gave me very helpful tips for my sons skin. If you have to see anyone I would 10/10 recommend Miss Reagan. If you're reading this I'd recommend getting some happier and more welcoming faces/people in the front. I was ready to leave after dealing with the first person. Thankfully i did not. read more

I love this practice, however they are going through a transition of electronic records and are experiencing delays. However, I have spent over 30 minutes (still going) trying to get a sick chick appt. After 10 minutes on hold, it offers a message with a 24 hours call back, OR you hang up and start all over. With a sick kid, this isn't acceptable. read more

Dr Peck and Dr Owens are amazing! We love the NPs and front desk staff as well. My daughter is 2 now, and they always get her in for any emergencies or any check up appointments that she needs. They are very friendly and very timely in getting us in, and out. We love NBPA! read more

Post might be a little long but I would like to be thorough... My son has been seeing Dr. Statler at New Braunfels Pediatrics since he was born & he is 7 years old now. Unfortunately yesterday was his last visit due to Dr. Statler's remarks & lack of professionalism. I was needing paperwork regarding my sons ADHD that his school needs for their own records. I made an appointment, pulled my son from school & went to it. Dr. Statler flat out told me he was not doing any paperwork for my son because it was "going to take him a lot of time" & he didn't see the reason behind providing me with my sons medical documents due to the fact I have opted out of putting him on medication for his ADHD. He then asked me if I was there to "collect a check" on my child. First off, I didn't even know that was something you could do. I have zero intentions on collecting any check on my child. Second, IT IS FOR HIS SCHOOL. Mind you, he had already given me the paperwork last year & the school accidentally lost it. It happens, I completely understand mishaps happen. The whole reason for this appointment was to have it reprinted for me. Dr. Statler then told me he was not going to fill out the paperwork for me because then according to him "I am not willing to help my son anyway" which is not the case whatsoever. Myself, the school & my son himself have been working in other ways in order to help him with his disorder. I do not feel my 7 year old should be on medication at this time because it is NOT affecting his grades at all at school, matter of fact my son is enrolled in the gifted in talented program for having straight A's. After going back & forth about his medical records that I NEED he told me I needed to "step up my parenting" & I ended up leaving with none of his paperwork because he refused to provide me with it. I spoke to the office manager today & she was appalled with what Dr. Statler told me & as much as she wants to help me with these records that she cannot force him to give me them. Now after 7 years of seeing the same Dr, I am having to move him to a new provider. I have to go through this entire process all over again for paperwork that Dr. Statler should be providing for me. I thought going to his pediatrician would be an easy fix & I was so wrong. I want other parents to be aware of what might happen if you do use him as a pediatrician & your child's school might need medical records because he could potentially refuse paperwork to other parents also. read more

My children have been seen by the wonderful physicians here since 2006. Sarah Reiger is their doctor but we have also been seen by Owens and Sattler when she is not available. They also have a nice pocket of nurse practitioners who come in handy. One of our favorite nurses is Tasha. Very sweet. In general the staff is nurturing and caring. I have never had an issue with being treated wrong. My children have great yearly exams and when ill they are well taken care of. Arrive a little early and be prepared to wait. Sick patients often cause a change in their schedule. I know if my child were very sick I would want proper attention. The office staff is neither overly welcome or mean. They are right in the middle but I guess they deal with too much and probably don't get paid a lot. Overall we love this clinic. read more

My kids have been patients here for years. I brought my son in for pain in a leg and a fever. I was brushed off and told it would resolve itself. Four days later he could not walk and took him to ER and he has three surgerys. Maybe it would not have happened it we were not brushed off. Then took another kiddo in for a cough and was told it was allergies. A few weeks later he still had a cough. Took him into another doctor and he had to have meds and an inhaler and then got a "friendly" letter from the office saying that since I took my son for a second opinion they were severing all professional ties with my kids. It seems to me that everything that I brought up with my kids was brushed off and not addressed. Would not even give them the one star if I could. read more

We just moved here from out of state and I'm trying to find a new pediatrician for my kids. I talked to two different people, was disconnected once, and neither of the ladies were helpful. I was basically told the doctors most likely won't see my kids because they are medicated for ADD, but it is up to the doctors-- it depends if it is difficult or not. But they said I couldn't make an appointment because it is not their birthday, for a well-child check, so insurance wouldn't cover it, and they aren't established patients yet so I can't schedule a medication appointment either. They didn't offer any kind of help or support in answering my questions and just left me feeling frustrated. How am I supposed to get my kids in to see a doctor when I'm coming from another state?? They were rude and so very unhelpful. It would have been nice to just speak directly to a doctor who may have been able to actually offer me assistance and information. read more

would give 0 stars if i could. Told my 3 year old was too close to being 4 to do a 3 year checkup. Really?? I have to come back later in the year?? WOW!! How about you do her 3 year checkup when i schedule the apt and she is 3 years old, and then when she turns 4 later next year I'll bring her back for her 4 year checkup. Apparently the person answering the phone at this place gets to determine when you are allowed to bring you child in for her annual checkup. read more

My family (with 2 boys, ages 6 and 3) have been with NB Pediatrics for over 5 years, and it's not until the most recent doctor visit that merits a review from us. My little one has multiple infections that had us revisit the doctor's office 3 times this week. Dr. Rieger (a good doctor) suspected a possible viral septic joints (hip/knee joint pains in one leg with fever). We kept a close eye on him watching out for redness/swelling of the joints that may indicate something more serious (bacterial septic joints). Although his leg was slowly getting better with no swelling or redness, his fever was getting worse, up to 104.9. We got blood work done, and it's not definitive. Our case became a mystery case in the office. On our third visit on Saturday afternoon, we saw a Dr. Mark Statler, who detected a functional heart murmur and strep (so the poor little guy was fighting multiple things) on top of joint issue we went in there to see in the first place. Dr. Statler was very THOROUGH. The doctor stayed with us for over an hour, eliminating different possibilities and discussing different treatment scenarios. He even called up a pediatric cardiologist friend of his to run by his treatment idea before sending the prescription over to our pharmacy. We are scheduled to see Dr. Statler back on Monday morning, on a day he is scheduled off, to hopefully close the case, or if not continue other blood work and x-rays for a possible blood/bone infection. As a parent, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate these doctors at New Braunfels Pediatrics for the among of thought and care that they've put into taking care of my child. Yes, I've also experienced delays at the waiting room beyond my appointment time, sometimes longer than I care for, but it's in times like this that separates great doctors versus just on time M.D's. I'm going to be a loyal customer for a very long time. Thank you Dr. Rieger, Dr. Statler, and your staff. read more

Took my son to see his pediatrician but she wasn't available so we saw another physician, Dr Weinberg and he was so awful to my child! We have been very careful during covid and even with that I caught covid and took my son for testing. Dr Weinberg asked my child when he started feeling symptoms and my child said 'last week when I was at my grandmas,'. Dr Weinberg then raised his voice and yelled at my child 'so you mean to tell me you exposed your grandma'. I quickly jumped in and told the dr 'he has asthma and is a child who assumed it was allergies, how is a child suppose to know the difference?' Who does that? Yell at a child and make them feel like it's their fault! My sons primary has him on certain asthma medications and yet Dr Weinberg decided he knows better than the other dr and called in different medications. Don't see this dr he is rude, crass, unprofessional, and a pompous individual who obviously doesn't remember his oath to do now harm! read more

We moved to the New Braunfels area a year ago. My 15 year old son had a viral infection and we went to an urgent care clinic where he was wrongly prescribed an antibiotic. After being sick for over seven days with a high fever I was able to get an appointment right away with Dr Mark Statler at New Braunfels Pediatrics. (I actually called around to family practitioners in hopes our family could all go to the same Dr, but not one office, out of the about 20, that I called were able to take a 14 year-old. Three of the offices I talked with recommended Dr. Statler with New Braunfels Pediatrics. I was very happy when I was able to get in for an appointment) I have been extremely pleased with Dr Statler, he was thorough in diagnosing my son's infection. On another visit he spent over a hour discussing ADD symptoms and medications with my son and I. He is an extremely knowledgeable doctor and spends the time needed to provide great care. We have also been happy with all the nurses and other doctors we have met with. read more

THEY REFUSED TO HELP MY SICK SON DURING THE CORONAVIRUS BECAUSE WE MISSED A PREVIOUS APPOINTMENT!!! I have twins and had scheduled their initial appointment with this office and had to change it to a sick visit for one of the twins, so they rescheduled their initial appointment for about a week later. I didn't receive an appointment card and with having young twins and one sick my hands were quite full. I thought that the receptionist said there appointment was on Wednesday 2 weeks from that date. With confidence that I would get a reminder call I went home and took care of my sick 9 month old twins. Coming up on two weeks and I hadn't received a reminder call, or text, or email. I called and they said that my appointment had been a few days prior and I missed it. I let them know that I didn't receive a reminder call. When I tried to reschedule I was told that they wouldn't schedule my twins for their office because we missed our "initial appointment" to establish them as patients. They said that the reminder is a courtesy and they have zero tolerance police for missed appointments. I had been assigned to this clinic, during the coronavirus outbreak my son had developed a fever and cough and I was panicking and scared. I called the office asking for help and what I should do. I was told in a very cold insensitive manner that because I had missed the appointment they couldn't help me or my baby twins. These people could care less about people, and the wellbeing of children. They are cold and heartless to deny care during the coronavirus outbreak to a child assigned to the office. read more

We just moved to the area and so far have not been impressed with NB Peds. When we first arrived I set up my kids well child appointments. A week before their appointments my then 4 month old had 105 fever and needed to be seen but they would not fit her in because she was a new patient and they didn't have time to do a new patient exam. I felt lost and hopeless as moving to a new area and state is stressful enough. At our 6 month well child check I don't know if the nurse was new but she was horrible at giving shots. She was soo slow and struggled getting the bandaids on. My daughter needed three pokes and in between each poke the nurse stopped and fiddled with the syringe and put a bandaid on just dragging it out! And now my daughter has huge welts on her leg like she went to deep or something. This is our third office and my daughter has had these exact shots before given by a different nurse and her legs did not swell or bruise at all. I also have an older child and have never seen shots given like this at the previous two offices. However, the Dr. we have been seeing is awesome. read more

Dr. Stateler - very thorough. He takes the time to look back at the child's entire history. He is the only doctor there that truly utilizes the records. He is moody, does not have the people skills. Always overdiagnoses. I don't always agree on his treatment plans. But, if something is seriously wrong with one of my three kids he's the man. Dr. Weinberg - I like him, but he can be condescending. I know many moms that were offended by him and changed practices immediately. Overlooking his shortcomings has been worth it for me. He has a child with asthma and so do I. So, when it comes to asthma issues, he's the man. Dr. Rieger - We have been at NBPA for about 8 years. Early on, she came off as pompous/condescending. Hanging in there has been worth it for us! She is our go-to-doc for issues that "mommys" specifically can manage. Anything having to do with private parts - constipation/fissures, early puberty, etc (the list goes on). Also, she is great managing my son's asthma/allergies. I love the fact that she can relate having kids of her own that are ADD! Dr. Owens - Sweetheart! I love him, but he UNDERdiagnoses. His attitude is "everything is okay". But, follow up in a couple weeks. Meanwhile, fever spikes that night we're back the next day and turns out to be strep throat! He's good, but too laid back. So, that's my insight for now. We continue to go to NBPA for all of our kids' medical needs, other than specialists. Eight years and running. So far, so good! And, so nice to have built personal repoirs with all the docs and staff over the years. It's a place my kids know so well. They feel safe and one hundred percent at home there.
