Stopped in today just to ask if the owner would let me set up my steels targets on his range. I was headed down to another, larger range another 30 minute drive... I am SO GLAD that I turned around and went to ask. Tony, the new owner, was there and greeted me as I came in the front door to the office. A very good natured and knowledgable man. He said there was no problem with the steel and then took me out to a range he said I could use. It was a bit muddy after the storm last night, but he said I could back my truck up to the beginning of the range. Then, after a bit of chat, he left me to set up. Yes, as he said he might do, he came back out when I began shooting. He seemed interested in the way I had assembled my steel targets (and was probably checking on my skill level). We talked a bit about more improvements coming for the range. I'll rate it 5 Star when the improvements are made. I'll be back. Every Saturday that I can. I have been going to this Range, bring my Friends along, for a number of years. My Last trip I met Tony, the Owner and observed the new management. It is now a great place. I like the old style out door Shooting Ranges, with discipline, but without a "Marshal" standing behind you. It is all about Gun Safety. Tony has a great attitude, and is a friendly person but he has a serious side, if rules are broken. He also seems to be a good Teacher of CHL. You have ranges for Shotgun, Rifle and Pistol, and a restricted range for CHL. And You cant beat the price!. read more

I'm so glad to have found this range. The husband and wife team are the nicest and most helpful range owners I've ever met. Anyone who's been around a gun range before knows how exceptionally rare that is in this industry. It's small but very well run. The facilities are all in good shape. Nothing is as fun as your own bay at BOTW but there's always a long wait there and they're getting less friendly. This is a great alternative for anyone in the area Lonestar felt very safe with hardly any of the stupid restrictions other ranges in the area have. read more

Formerly Stan's Range, this business was recently acquired by Tony L. as Lone Star Range and Academy, LLC. A lot of improvements have been planned for this place, which should make it the premier shooting range in the area. Today, two of my friends and I took our guns there for a little fun and practice. It's an outdoor range. The range has several berm-enclosed partitions, for pistols, rifles, and shotguns. We used the pistol and shotgun areas. Tony is great. He's a former US Marine sniper, police officer, and current CHL Instructor. Knows more about firearms than I've forgotten, and loves to instruct (he's good at it too!). And the price is right - with police, military, and senior discounts where applicable. Over the coming months, he plans to add a moving-target pistol range, with new firearm benches, and support structures. Brass-collection buckets for each range position as well. Overall, this is a great range to use all your firearms. And, we're going to sign up for Tony's next Firearms Safety course as well. We we're impressed with him. Although my 1st time on the range it was fun, the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. Although I wish there was a cell phone signal there but a gun range is not a place for playing video games lol. I have met some pretty cool people there and will keep going back for sure but will get a membership there :D its too bad its raining today :( read more

Went to this range for the first time yesterday. Had an amazing time! The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. As the Sergeant Major explained, the range is one big family. The emphasis is for everyone to have a good time. The instructors were all very friendly and informative, and some even provided some excellent training for home defense. Both my wife and I have been members since 2016. A membership is definitely the way to go if you like to shoot more that a few time a month. At Lonestar, a membership is very affordable. We love it because it is an outside range, and you do not have the loud bangs and echoes of an indoor range. Tony is great, and always offers assistance and guidance. Ken in the office is warm and friendly and knows us by name, and if you forget, they have eyes and ears, and sell targets and ammo. It is a great place to shoot. Give this man your money! If you are looking for a great outdoor range you will be happy spending your money at lonestar......it's no secret that it's not the prettiest range around but if your like me you don't go shooting for the scenery. Tony the owner has some great plans for the range and to hear him talk about it you can tell this is his baby, he cares about the range and the people who come to use it. Very fair pricing, $15 for all day....can't beat that, my husband and I were spending that much for 45 min at a local indoor range.....45 min and your just getting warmed up! Tony is good people and makes your visit to the range personal, who doesn't like that? Tony knows what he's talking about and is there to offer his advice....I am newer to guns and shooting and he offered up some great tips to help me out. Well, I've been using Lonestar Range for over five years. It's a good range and the range officers and owners are good folks with a lot of common sense. There are a few rules, for safety, but not many. Fewer than most ranges for sure. Most places are so anal that you are required to periodically watch a safety video before using the range. Even folks that aren't going to shoot are required to do that. That's because there are SO many rules that even the range safety personnel can't remember them all. One of the rules at every range I've ever been to is no opentoed shoes and sure as heck NO FLIP FLOPS! Anyone that shows up thinking they are going to be okay in flip flops, or barefoot would have to be a certified moron. I'm guessing that someone in the office would expect the shooters to change from flip flops or bare feet to shoes or boots before they go out to the firing line. You aren't required to wear hearing or eye protection in the office either. Some people are just stupid I guess (another reviewer complained that he wasn't allowed to shoot in flip flops). This range is easy going, but always safety conscious. I've got five other ranges within the same distance from my home as Lonestar. I'll always choose Lonestar. It's my absolute favorite. The new owner is wonderful to deal with and he has great ideas and plans for the range. His fee is a little higher than the range down the road, but the fee includes safety gear and is still not as expensive as Best of the West. Can't wait to see what's coming when the weather gets warmer! At least I won't have to deal with that nasty range guy at Astro anymore. Those people can't get their act together. Why keep a guy who doesn't do anything but harass and threaten customers? And then there is the issue of the animals in the office - cats, dogs, it's disgusting. I've been shooting there regularly since back when it was Stan's Shooting range. It is under new management now and I was there a couple of weeks ago. For now, it hasn't changed much, but there are improvements coming. The first thing I noticed was that all the cats are gone and the office is being remodeled. Good improvements right there. Talked to the new owner a while. Very friendly and knowledgeable guy. He told me there are improvements coming to the ranges too. Extended rifle distances past 100 yards, improved pistol ranges etc. This is one of my favorite places to shoot for now. The fees are reasonable and so are the range rules. One flat fee for all day covers as many firearms as you want to shoot. I'll be going back soon. read more

My brother-in-law and I stopped in last Saturday to shoot our pistols. We hate indoor ranges and this one is all outdoors in the country near Andice and Liberty Hill. Met the owner and he couldn't be more helpful. Price is very reasonable, bought a couple of targets and we were the only ones on the range for an hour or two. They have a shotgun range and a rifle range too. This place is worth the drive and we will be back. read more

The owner Tony is an excellent gun instructor and business owner. He takes the time to answer any questions you may have about the range, weapons or safety. The is an excellent no frills outside range that you can enjoy and not worry about being yelled at like some high dollar gun ranges. Staff is very personable and knowledgeable. I am disappointed with inability to make contact with this facility to clarify some things before going. I called the number with no response, no way to leave voicemail since box not set up. I then tried to send em from website and says it doesn't recognize my email address. Pretty frustrating. Without ability to get answers before going probably not compelled to make the drive to find out. read more
