Climbing the stairs to Axe Music's second floor where they keep the guitars is like ascending a secret magical path to Narnia, only there's no talking animals or mythical beasts lurking about. (At least I didn't see any.) Guitars of all (most?) makes and models hang from the walls enticing, inviting, and teasing you to fondle, caress, and pluck them and take them home. It's like spending time in your cool uncle's attic. There's a separate room for acoustic guitars and another one which stores amplifiers. I was there for a clinic (musicians don't like to say "lesson" so they call it a clinic) where a professional musician stops by to give tips, tricks, and advice. Admission was $10 but tickets were good for $10 off a purchase of $25 or more that night. After the clinic I moved upward to Narnia to scope out a guitar I had my eye on. Axe's website had it listed on sale for $419 (marked down from $479). Imagine my surprise when I saw that the store had it on clearance for $324! Moral of the story?: Clearance prices apparently aren't posted online; you'll have to kick it old-school and actually haul ass into the store to see if there's a deal to be had. (Or maybe just call them.) I asked the sales guy, Coltan, if I would still get the $10 off since the guitar was on clearance. He seemed a little confused. I explained the promotion. He said no one told him about a discount for participants of the clinic. Ya gotta love it when management doesn't pass info on to their employees. This is where the talking animals could have been useful; they could relay information between management and staff. He told me that clearance items generally aren't subject to discounts anyway but he threw in a free patch cable. These generally cost around $10 anyway, so it's all good. He boxed the guitar up for me and I was on my way. Downstairs has rooms devoted to drums and keyboards as well neither of which I play so I didn't go into those. Axe Music doesn't just sell musical instruments. They have a crazy selection of DJ gear too. There is a whole room downstairs filled with mixers, turntables, road cases, etc. They also offer regular music lessons for guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums for $13 per half hour. read more

What the hell? I chose to order from these guys online based on reviews I had seen online. My fiance agreed to order me an orange amp which they had in stock 5 Days before Christmas. She ordered it and I completely understood due to the Christmas rush it might not arrive on time. It is now new years eve and they still haven't even shipped it, despite it still being in stock. We have emailed, nothing. Called and was told something had indeed gone wrong and the item wasn't shipped due to an error in their warehouse, they said they'll get to the bottom of the problem and call back asap. Did anyone call or even email? No.. Any sign of shipment yet? No.. It really sucks, they have a great selection with great prices to match and are situated relatively close to me (3 hours from Calgary). My fiance (who ordered the product as a gift) has left a message with the manager asking if this transaction is even going to be completed. Your move axe music. I've worked retail jobs and in customer service for most of my younger life, I've never left anyone on the hook like this. Really bummed out. :-/ Happy (noiseless) New year. read more

I had been searching for a pair of ear monitors (earbuds) and found (online) that Axe carried the Shure 215's and were $10 cheaper than the other big guitar store in town. I called the store, spoke with 'Drew' and he said he'd put them on hold for me at the counter. I arrived at the store and got Drew himself to help me. What a great guy - full of personality and smiling - something you don't find often. Yes it was a simple transaction but obviously enough to make an impact on me and hence write a review. Worst Long & McQuade in the city! I used to like going to Axe Music and try out amps and guitars. I even bought three expensive guitars there. The staff was so nice. I then tried L&M on 118 AV and boy was that one of the worst experience of my life. This was about three years ago. I was told by one of the salesmen there that I could try any of the guitars or amps I wanted... which I did. I play metal, so the sound was a bit loud, as they don't have sound proof rooms there as they did at Axe Music. And then this old douche comes at me with this attitude that, basically, I either buy or leave. He was saying that he was trying to conduct business and could not hear himself speak because of the loud noise, lol. I was dumbfounded how someone could speak to their customers in such way. But, I collected myself, I explained that I was told that I could do what I did and that I was leaving. I have not returned since. read more

Axe Music 12108 67th Street Edmonton 4 stars This is where we went when my boyfriend bought his drums. We found that the staff was really knowledgeable and friendly. You can bargain a bit with prices or they throw stuff in to give you a deal. Their selection of headphones is great and if you're in the market for music lessons they offer them here. Everyone who works here is really into music, so you usually get enthusiasm from them when you're looking for stuff. There's also a huge selection of rental stuff - amps, lights, speakers - all band and dj equipment. read more

I was told that I would be guaranteed a particular product (within the next week) if I came in store and paid a(n expensive) deposit. I have it now after waiting almost 2 months. The in store product specialist made me feel like I was unwanted and I felt feelings of bitterness for writing a letter of complaint to their General Manager. I would have not been as bothered if the Sales Rep was more polite, apologizing, and professional about the error that was made. These guys are now (unfortunately) on the bottom of my list. read more

Ordered a Marshall dsl40c amp online with free tour jacket.Never received the jacket and was sent a demo amp off one of their show room floors?It was advertised for 699.00 no indication this was a demo,received it almost 2 weeks later,took two days to pull this off the shelf or floor to call purolator for a pickup really 2 days. Received it box was totally damaged,holes tons of tape,inside nothing in original packaging like everything was just thrown in the box along with some Styrofoam corners,really suspicious,anyway plugged it in and sure enough no sound,tried everything I could think of ,changed wires,re-read the manual nothing ,called axe help line spoke with Brad suggested a few things nothing.So I asked if this was a used amp kind of funny how it was packed and he said yes no hesitation was I not told,NO I was not told and this is not what I payed for I wanted NEW. He apologized and offered a refund and would pay return shipping which I was prepared to do the next day,But I was not interested in a refund I wanted a NEW replacement which he had no idea when a new one would be in,really hello its 2015,email, telephone ,text your supplier for a EAD,but he was very un- committal,only interested in giving a refund, but after speaking with family and friends I hesitated it was suggested I would not received a refund most likely until the amp was back in their possession and I had no proof I would be receiving a new one,no new order number,no anything and no amp if I sent it back. I contacted Brad by email and said my concerns,that I had no proof or any new order number or when a new one would be in and never received a reply,so still have the amp,no jacket and checking axe website new stock has arrived and its now 899.00,surprised there is the problem they sold me a used for 699.00 when new its 899.00 ,so they will give me a refund but it will cost me 200$ BUCKS MORE,So I have no choice but to have it repaired and WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE AGAIN. read more

I can tell you that AXE has the slowest service of ANY online store I have dealt with in Canada or the US. I have never had an order dispatched on the truck sooner than 4 business days of placing the order. The average for my orders seems to be 5 business days; one order took 7 business days! I don't even know where to begin with how disappointing it was to deal with these guys. I ordered a Fender acoustic guitar case from them two months ago for my husbands birthday this coming Monday. After a month with no word I called them and said I was concerned that the order hadn't shipped. The rep on the phone decided to explain to me that musical instruments weren't like ordering other things and that it takes time but that he was sure it would be there in time for my husbands birthday. I waited again and called 3 more times in the next three weeks, each time I was promised a follow up call or email and never received one. Today I called, got a little frustrated with them on the phone and then found out over a series of emails that Fender misplaced the order and it was never even ordered or shipped and the best I can hope for is to receive it three weeks from now. Now I understand that the fault may have lain with Fender in this situation but when I call every week for 4-5 weeks don't you think AXE could have: a) acknowledged I has having a valid problem and b) discovered the issue sooner to get the item sent to me? They literally acted like I was being an ignorant nag the entire time. I can't take one more minute of mansplaining by these guys. Don't order from them if you can avoid it. Why give your money to condescending customer service that can't even get the job done for you. read more

I bought a guitar from here not too long ago. The customer staff was outstanding & the prices seemed fair. I mostly checked out the guitar section in which they have a WIDE variety of. First I find it interesting that all the reviews NOT recommended are the crappy ones and all the 4 & 5 star ones are. Worst service I have ever seen and I managed stores in WEM for years. We were looking tonight, do quite often at guitars and have boight several. There was another customer who my hubby had been chatting with shopping for 2 days there for a guitar. Finally had decided, and when got up to the counter the worker REFUSED over and over to sell it at the posted price RIGHT ON THE GUITAR. Said that the American dollar was up, everyone else had changed their prices and they just hadn't yet so it was going to be way more. Said he'd have to make some calls but chances of it happening were pretty bad. I'm not sure what (if anything) is taught in customer service there but you are NOT allowed to up the price at the counter!! You have to sell it at the posted price, if you are too lazy to change it that is YOUR problem. And if you bought them months ago as you said, you guys didn't pay the higher price! The guy was rude and arrogant and made the customer feel like crap. I have never seen such horrifying customer service and we will never buy another guitar or anything from there and we have bought several before. You guys have certainly lived up to your reputation as the crappiest service in the city. read more
