I abuse the living crap out of my guitars. I have brought in a 2 guitars here. Both for a pickup swap and some serious TLC (see first sentence). They more than took care of my abused children. One of the guitars I even requested that the volume knob/control be removed (because I don't understand the use of it). They did it with flying colors. Turn around time is usually a week here. Which is not an issue in my book. Do not be shocked by the messiness inside. That means they are doing great work. read more

I took in a 50 year-old Takamine that was buzzing , and although initially considering a full neck reset John the technician examined it more closely and said they just replacing the nut would probably fix the problem. Okay, I really generally don't leave reviews. This place blew me away, I really couldn't be happier. I had a pretty epic project, I wanted to remove the 5-way rotory switch on my PRS Custom-22 10-top and replace it with a 6-way freeway switch with custom coil splits in addition to swapping out the bridge pickup, and a setup with a floating trem. Really, the whole 9-yards. I was nervous as hell when I went to pick this thing up hoping it would come out good, and you just have to believe me, this is the best guitar on the fucking planet thanks to John and the folks at Long Beach Guitar Repair. The guitar ended up sitting for 10 years. I took it to John and we found out the bridge had bent because of the improperly setup. I never write reviews, actually this is my first, but after my experience with LB guitar repair, I knew I had to. Adulting isn't fun, and I've been trying to make better use of the time I'm not working. Slowly getting back into guitar playing and the few guitars I have needed some love. I took in a telecaster I recently had shipped over from Japan, and after Guillermo set it up, it feels completely different to play. Neck relief, action, and intonation all set properly. The guitar stays in tune and I'm loving it. When I went to pick the guitar up, I dropped off a Les Paul, and John did excellent work on it. Even though it was brand new out of the box guitar, it now it plays like a new guitar should! Picked up the Les Paul and dropped off a Strat. Same story, much better than before. Not only set up, but the pickups sound much better and the scratchy tone pot I forgot to mention was also cleaned without me letting them know. Each guitar I dropped off they would call for me to pick it up quicker than the last. They have you plug your guitar in to see how it plays and even offer personal adjustments if something isn't to your liking. Whether you're just now getting into playing, trying to get back at it, or a well experienced player, I highly recommend these guys for your guitar needs. You can tell right when you walk in that this is an old school workshop. Today, I picked up my Firefly FF338 guitar from Long Beach Guitar Repair. This was a cheap Chinese-made guitar I picked up used in a local pawn shop. I had been wanting one of these to mod it. The person I dealt with was John. I wanted him to replace all the hardware and electronics, plus some fret leveling and a good set-up. I had him install Mojotone 59 P.A.F. pickups and wiring harness, Gotoh tuners and bridge. It took a while and it was well worth the wait. The neck is now perfect and it plays beautifully. I knew I was taking it to the right place, as they have worked on other guitars of mine in the past, but this was the first really major work I have had them do for me. I love their work. read more

A guitar is much like a car. You must take care and service it if you expect it to operate at peak performance. I've taken my guitars and now my sons to John for years. Of course, we go for our tune-ups and intonations but they have done so much more. I have a $700 Indonesian Supro that John modified, installed grease bucket tone and treble bleed and out of my entire collection, this is the guitar I grab. They do an amazing job on our 3 Telecasters as well. For my son, John took a Squire Tele body and basically rebuilt it from the ground up. If all my praise isn't enough, my son's guitar teacher who has 30+ guitars has told him that his Telecaster is the best and easiest he has ever played. I took my Stratocaster in just to get an idea of what needed to be done, and John was super helpful. He was kind enough to not throw me out of the place by disgracing his fine store with the shape that it was in (the bridge is supposed to be FLAT against the body? Ooooooh!). He gave me the quote and said that it would be ready on Saturday. Late Saturday, I hadn't gotten a call, until after 6pm, and he told me that it was ready, and that he would keep the store open for me if I could get there quickly. I got there quickly. He explained all the things that he did to the guitar, after having me plug it into the amp, and let my ears decide on how great a job they did. Most of it went over my head, but when I asked for explanations, he was super patient in going into detail. I left feeling great, and like I was dealing with a place that respects instruments and takes pride in their work. Short story long.
