The park has nice spot large tree .but i guess a while ago storm came thu and tore up alot of stuff .there where jungle gym closed ,and slides close ,we was understanding that they had a dog park but they dont ! First night went to bathroom by the pool in campgrounds and there was mess in both stalls .went back in mid week and no tp.then went in again and it smelled of urine so bad i couldnt go in . For the price we paid we could have gotten a clean, bigger, quieter, and pet friendly VRBO and still gotten tickets to the rundown water park that anywhere else in the country would have been shutdown. My families advice: stay else where. Tent camping would have been more comfortable than the hard mattress on the floor with unfinished 1x4s (may not be the correct size) for "trim" and pulled up floor boards. See our pics.

This place not only is small non-appealing hole off the interstate. They are unprofessional, liars,…read moreand down right sleazy. 1st the cabin was not a cabin it's an 8x12 metal shed, that is described deceptively. 2nd they failed to clean or do anything that reviewed the condition of the place before I arrived. Which I had to remove gum from the bed railing upon arrival, had to clean up dirt and leaves from the floor (it's not hard to sweep). 3rd I had a physical health (asthma) reaction staying in the place with breathing issues, due to the place being a dust bucket and allowing pets (undisclosed before rental) to stay with previous tenants. I called the office on the 2nd night, spoke with GARY, who said; "if you're having health issues I will credit you back the remaining stay!" I called him the very next day he stated the same thing. Almost 2 weeks later no refund. I called and then his story changed, after repetitive promises and now wouldn't refund anything. Then after he didn't like how I called him out for misleading (lying) he hung up on me. And continued to hang up each return call there after. Don't waste your time going to this trash bin beside the highway. If I could rate with 10% of one star that's what this place would get. Claimed Christians but certainly not holding to that standard.

The park itself is very laid back, clean, & no issues at all in the few months stay. All around great cost effective place. Honestly wish they had more small cabins set up to invite friends. Extremely happy with my stay.

They were like the Indians of New England, decimated early on by disease brought by French explorers and traders, the War of 1812, and English speaking colonizers. Before "Americans" even really settled in the area from the 1820s, Lewis and Clark reported in 1804 that many of the Missouri Indians had died off from disease and predations from other tribes. The visitor's center is small but excellent, and interprets many Indian tribes in the Midwest, including the Sauk and Fox, who lived in Dubuque, IA, where I grew up. I learned more about Black Hawk, who figures large in the early 19th century history of Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin. By the time whites came to the park area (the Van Meters), the Indians were entirely gone. The campgrounds are alive with woodpeckers and tall trees, but the place is truly eerie. The trees groan in the wind at night and the area is very damp. One campsite across the way was 5 degrees colder. I imagine there was a spring, or seep, there. It is really dark at night, at a little scary. There is a campground host there, friendly but not intrusive. There are some trails to walk on, although muddy. One leads up to the Van Meter family cemetery, which is laid out next to an Indian Mound. I wanted to visit the lake with some more Indian mounds on the park property the next morning but the campground hosts had not unlocked the gate. Apparently they have had instances of thievery and vandalism. Hard to believe how. The area is beautiful farmland, but very remote.
