The renovations are turning out nicely. The admission area have always been helpful and polite. Security had gone out their way to allow me to visit after hours, the nurses and doctors kept me well informed on the care being provided and called for permission on work needed to be performed. read more

I had Carpal tunnel surgery on April 17zth. It was on my left hand. I got to the Knapp building at 5:45 AM. The staff was very organized. My Doctor Richard Savino. The staff works well together. They all helped me. I wasn't there very long. They made me feel that I was important. I highly recommend them. read more

The worst place ever! My child had an accident and they stated that they did not have the ability to give him the needed care. And stated Stony Brook Pediatric was better suited to treat our child. But it would take an hour for their ambulance to arrive to transport our child. They threatened to call CPS on us if we drove him to Stony Brook Pediatric. This is a ridiculous policy. We should have been told immediately at check in what the options were. The person suffering is our child. read more

I came in by ambulance with a head injury I waited 31/2 hours and never got needed stitches. This Hospital is not better it's worse

Almost fainted within 30 seconds after the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Became light headed, and my pulse skyrocketed. Was brought here by ambulance. Crew told me that my pulse was 160, and my BP, 182/111. Dr. Genevieve M. and Abigail D, R.N. who were my primary caretakers. They hooked me up to an IV to hydrate me. Kudos to Stephanie, R.N. for helping out when the other two were unable to assist me. A big shout out and lots of hugs to Yelper and hospital employee Lisa A, RN, who stopped by to visit me. Neither Abigail nor any of the nurses aides provided me a remote control to call for help in case I needed assistance. I had to ask an aide to hand me a control. I also had to escort myself to the restroom, despite me telling Abigail that I was still feeling dizzy. I feel that Abigail should have had someone take me down to the restroom in a wheelchair. I also had to demand that I get blood pressure medication to bring my blood pressure down from a high of 170/100. Dr. Genevieve was reluctant to give me any meds. She explained that my high blood pressure is likely due to anxiety. I have been taking hypertensive medication for over 20 years. The physician discharged me shortly after I took the medication. She explained that staying in the hospital was probably the reason why I was so anxious, so it was best that I go home. She made arrangements for me to be driven home in a taxicab. The hospital paid for the fare. I walked myself out. Nobody escorted me. Overall, my experience was subpar. I do not recommend LI Community Hospital. hope that I will never have to come here again. read more

It has been 1 month since they were paid by the Insurance Company but they claim they haven't applied the funds to my account. From the moment my partner arrived at the ER we were well cared for by attentive and empathetic staff. They moved quickly, had me consult with trauma staff, moved him to ICU, surgical ICU (where we got the great news where he would not need surgery!) and move over to a regular room. The nurses listened to me, answered my questions, soothed me as I cried. No question was too many or redundant. Next thing they bring in a male and his son. Patient in that same small space, cubical. From this point, I know her situation 1st hand. I'm on the telephone with her. NYU staff sees nothing wrong with this. She lets them know she has PTSD. She tries to get a aide to go to the bathroom (in her back opened hospital gown) 2 aide laughing and enjoying each others company. Not bothering to answer her call bells..... She screams for help. Finally she has had her fill. She's leaving. Nurse screaming down the hall. I have to take out your IV. I guess the one she does not have, and nurse not aware or remembered. My 95-year-old father went into the hospital with pneumonia!! unfortunately they seem to think they know what they're doing!! the nurses on the floor!! head nurse..., and unqualified aids!! my dad was 95 - driving maintaining a full life before entering the hospital with pneumonia!! They seem to think because he was 95. He had dementia. He didn't know what he was doing or saying, doesn't know how to walk nor go to the bathroom.!! On his own!!! They titled him as a 95-year-old with dementia!!! I had to tell them several times he was fine to go to the bathroom on his own !! and maintain himself!! They left my father in the ER with pneumonia out in the hall for two days!! when he got to his room, he was irritated and agitated as to the way he was being treated, and they asked him questions as if he was an idiot!! long story short my dad left the hospital had to go back to the hospital with Covid, he got there!!! Then they sent my father which I needed him to go to a rehab for walking because at this point after 2 1/2 weeks between pneumonia and Covid very weak.!! when my father arrived at the nursing home I couldn't understand why my father was so drugged out.... Also, I was at the rehab from 10-4 every day to notice that all the patients were drugged out and doing the same thing with their hands, sleeping , etc, to find out that the notes from the hospital said my father was severely depressed and this is why he was on this medication....well bull!!!! The Luxor in Sayville as far as I observed many of their patients seem to be on the same medication they all did the same hand motions they all look the same they all answered the same!!. The quality of care at the hospital, is a zero my father left with lacerations of his arms, his hand bruising and not bruising from an IV. This place went to hell in a hand basket to say the least. I am a frequent ER visitor due to having several SEVERE medical conditions that are consistently documented on EPIC through mychart. Let me start off by saying I will NEVER return here and if you have loved ones take them to stonybrook or another hospital even though this is an NYU hospital they make a TERRIBLE name for the NYU group as a whole. I went there last night because I was having SEVERE back pain along with nausea along with severe ankle swelling beyond belief . I explained my check complaint and my history even though the competence was not there they couldn't even spell my medical conditions properly with me even giving them the correct spelling ... and these people call themselves medical professionals along with doctors?! Refused to give me any medication expect for zofran literally 10 mins before discharge after complaining about the excruciating pain from having severe kidney issues and tumors that grew they sent me away after not being knowledgeable about my condition stating that they can't tell me about tumor information on a catscan meanwhile the reports were absolutely disgusting and had ZERO information. Said that I had nothing wrong with me meanwhile all of my medical doctors / specialists are consistently CONCERNED but apparently I'm "fine". And only have a "UTI" . This place is dirty and should be shut down between the care i witnessed for myself along with how they were treating other patients . Along with them telling me I was in the ER 4 months ago and they compared my scans to the ones from 4 months ago and I never had testing there. read more

When our 38-year-old son came into the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, we were so scared we were going to lose him. After the team of doctors assessed his case and determined his diagnosis, we were given round-the-clock care. Our son was in an induced coma, which was determined to be caused by a stroke/aneurysm. The care provided was so amazing that we were able to visit him, go home and sleep, knowing he was being given the most amazing care we had ever seen. Our son became such an important patient to the staff that many staff would have a shift on the other side of the hospital and still come over to see us and our son. They would also discuss details about our son with whoever was assigned to him. I have no complaints. Mom fell at rehab and wound up at Long Island Community Hospital. Everyone has been so kind. From the P.A.'s, Nurses and CNA's to the social worker and people who check you in at the front door and Security! I know mom's in good hands there. They are testing her and treating her accordingly. She shares a room with another trauma patient and there is privacy and a tv if you want to rent for $10 a day (this includes her own telephone). read more

My 4 yo had surgery at Long Island Community Hospital and after reading the reviews I was very skeptical. We liked our surgeon, and this was where he performed surgery. From the moment we walked into the hospital we were greeted by friendly staff and everyone helped to make my daughter comfortable. The anesthesiologist was very good and made sure we knew everything that was going to happen. The nurses were amazing and couldn't have been more helpful. Everything was really clean from the bathrooms to the waiting room. We felt like we were in very good hands the entire time. The entire process at the hospital was better than anticipated. read more

Just a horrible experience. The few, few people here who are compassionate and knowledgeable. Once admitted I became incontinent. I would lay in my bed for hours soaked in my own urine. Medication was at times over an hour late. The only reason I came here was because I couldn't tolerate a further ambulance ride because of pain. I was screamed at by three nurses and it was impossible for me to explain any situation. Never, under any circumstances let yourself or a loved one be taken here. I live in Manhattan but chose to have a surgery at LI Community Hospital. The hospital was 5 stars all around. My registration was handled by Brian and he was so pleasant and efficient. My pre-surgical intake was handled with the same quality, knowledge and efficiency they were all just so sweet. The entire surgical team was just perfect. They'll get their own review My RN on the day of surgery was Ms. Lacey. She made me feel so comfortable and really took care of me. Please put a negative in front of the 1 star review as 0 would be too kind, Seems like they are the island of misfit nurses, as you could not find a more rude uncaring group of nurses if you tried. Took my daughter here because she was experiencing severe back pain, initially they gave her a. shot of toradol, never once asked if she had anything to eat prior to giving shot, didnt tell her that it would make her nauseous or dizzy, they put a lidocaine patch on her back, then she sat for 5 hours along the wall side by side patients who had symptoms of covid, no spacing, no distance. She sat there with , no follow up , nothing for hours I asked for a supervisory but the PA Samantha F was too busy talking and texting on her phone to be bothered, and first said she didnt know who it was, I then asked can you find out, she finally put down her phone and called and said he would be down soon, James C the nurse came by I asked him do we know what we are waiting for, he said a urine sample, I said no one asked her for one, he just handed her a cup and left no instruction as to who to give it to, i took the sample to the desk where Samantha F who had not moved fro her sit, said oh thats a different department someone will be around to collect it, I asked her whats happening with the supervisory, she said this is an emergency room its very busy I don't know where he is. I walked out to the front desk and found the ONLY PERSON who actually cares about people and does something Alton, who said oh no no no not on my watch. came back took the urine sample and got it to where ever it needed to go, and thats where anything good stopped, waited waited waited, figured third times a charm walked back, yep Samantha still seated still texted , I asked her again whats up with the supervisory again standard response sir this is emergency everyones very busy, I said so busy that you can just sit there and text , I asked for her name, she refused ! I said ok thats it we are leaving, anything happens this is on you as no one has told us anything about what her issue is , what she should take NOTHING.. walked out to the front desk asked him I need a supervisory and the doctor been there all day and basically no communication no treatment nothing. He went back said the doctor will be out to see her in 10 minutes and supervisory in half hour, you guessed waited another 1 hour and 30 minutes and neither showed . While waiting in lobby there were stretches of over 30 minutes where the front desk of the emergency room where left unattended with people standing waiting while the phone rang off the hook. 2 people walked out of ER cursing that they were leaving as no one is taking care of them, A girl came in with a broken wrist she suffered earlier in the day, where the ski lodge casted her, but the cast never hardened, the person at the front desk said not going to lie to you but it will be 4-6 hours before anyone even talks to you. Crazy !!! Look at the ratings everyone is saying the same thing, someone needs to investigate what is going on here , why are they so rude, why are the so understaffed. DO NOT REPEAT DO NOT GO HERE..even if your life depends on it you will get better care from a walk in urgent care. read more

The brilliance is never ending here. I'd rather die than come to this hospital ever again. Friends who have lived here all their lives have never heard of it. A social worker set up a taxi for 3 o'clock. It's 430 and no one has a clue because shift changes at 3. Now my neighbor is is getting dressed, laughing her ass off at me telling her what's going on. Nurse comes in and says, we don't know when a taxi comes for people or even which entrance out of 3. This is a damn twilight zone and I'm definitely writing a paper and publishing it far and wide, including obvious needed second medical opinions for things. "You have to be waiting outside for a taxi." Yeah, but I'm not allowed to leave the room in a mask that "works" for excercise because I have the simple flu which broke over 24 hours prior... Holy crap! Yesterday morning, this same nurse I requested a pack of body wipes from, brought me 2, stone cold. I asked for heated ones: "Oh, you're a New Yorker, I thought you could take it" and brought 4 of them heated. I only have the flu, it would have been ok right? "Do no harm?" The misconception of the EMS team clung to me at the hospital: Fall Risk. I kept asking why and was told of how I moved upon arrival. Of course, my pulse was over 200. Once the obstruction in my colon was "accidentally" resolved by the need for an enema/ contrast for a CAT scan, all of my vitals returned to normal and the abdominal pain disappeared. The fever broke and all I was left with was the flu. This brought on the double standard of my quarantine. "3 years of "masks work masks work" and your staff's ability to come into my quarantine but I can't walk around? I can sit home just as easily." After demanding release, the on-duty nurse, I believe, was sent to mock me and I used the odd request he made of me to mock him. Never has anyone taking my pulse to determine oxygen levels ever asked to walk so it could be measured while walking. As we went he only glanced at our course. His focus was on my eyes the entire time. We came to a place where staff was blocking the hall so I kept my rhythm by marching side to side in 2 steps, doing a 360 and back as the finger device and I danced. We continued. I said how about a little jog and was now in double time jogging in place so to speak but still at the slow pace he had set pushing his vitals cart. Again we had to stop for staff and I began hopping on one foot, then the other. Again we continued. My pulse remained set and he dropped me off. Note: the absolute need for my quarantine for the safety of everyone else was bypassed for his little experiment attempting to keep me from leaving. Remember Santa's exam on Miracle on 34th Street? The 4th floor also holds the glass offices of the doctors and supervisors. My release was speedy but their last act was failure to tell me the cab was there. Something else, everyone knows you are NEVER allowed to walk to the exit and certainly not let out of the elevator with an arm pointing the way to the lobby. I walked out as a visitor, not a patient. Long Island Community Hospital does not have an ounce of integrity or professionalism. I am increasingly curious to find out what the taxi driver was told and whether he received the voucher for the trip. A friend ended up giving me a ride home. read more

My friend was admitted for pneumonia. There three weeks, she came home with the most horrific butt mad crotch rash imaginable. She was left lying in her own feces and urine for hours. Visiting hours only began at 1 pm. Each time I came, her first desperate request was that I find someone to clean her. What she needed was an advocate there all day to see that the basics were done. Nurses are overworked and some of the nurse's assistants should not be allowed to be in this type of field especially a Nurse's Aide by the name of EvaMarie Singh worst bedside manner I have ever had. This hospital has no right to call itself one. The floors are run by staff that are so inexperienced that it is frightening that your fate is in their hands. As for the aides they actually hide. How many times have I had to remove my own bed pan. I asked to see a nurse in charge to tell her that my bandage was not being changed. After that, they shut off my call button. My surgeon complained to the same supervisor and her face told you everything... She wasn't going to lift a finger to correct the situation. And she didn't. Brookhaven has bodies, Not professionals. They come to work every day for a paycheck. There is nobody at the helm here. I used to defend Brookhaven because over 10 years ago they saved my brothers life and on another occasion saved mine. They were never a top hospital but are now a dismal substitute for one. read more

I entered the emergency room on Sunday afternoon with abdominal pain. They took me right in for testing and found that my gallbladder had to come out immediately. They kept me that night and surgery was the next day. I had to go with the on-call surgeons who are amazing, very informative. Explain the whole procedure. The nursing staff was fantastic. I was discharged that same day. When I went home on Tuesday, I woke up on Wednesday and a lot of pain and thought I should go back so I did. They again rushed me in right away and found out that , I had a hernia and a crimped and test. They rushed me back into surgery. All went well. Today is Thursday and I am home and fine. From the ER nurses to the cleaning people the food staff the counselors the overnight nurses I cannot say enough about I wish I had all of their names because they were all absolutely amazing. I know this hospital has a terrible terrible reputation and up until now I agreed with it , I can't say enough about the care and treatment all these people I never met cared about me and they showed it. It's exactly how you'd like to be treated especially in a hospital. read more

Before I write my review I am including this disclaimer. My review is based on my previous 3 visits to the Emergency Department from December 2019 to July 2021. Now that I've explained myself here, I will proceed to write my review. When this hospital used to be known as Brookhaven Memorial Hospital it was much more efficient, staff were friendlier, and your wait time was shorter. I also had to come here back in 2013 for a serious kidney infection, which the then staff helped me survive. However this place has gone way downhill since then! Back in December 2019 I had thrown by back out while cleaning my apartment, and had been in severe physical pain for hours before I decided to check myself into the hospital. My Significant Other (who is also a guy, which normally I won't mention unless it's relevant) came with me for support, since I have a more severe version of PTSD, and this type of situation causes my symptoms to "flare up" (if you will). Arrived around 03:00 (3 in the morning for 12 hour users) by ambulance, which my SO was allowed to join me in. (Note this was pre-covid.) When the transporters rolled me into a room they gave my SO permission to stay by my bedside and keep me grounded. All went well until the nurse came in, and Yelp do not delete my review for the word I'm about to use to describe her, because it's fitting. She was a B----female dog! She directed my SO to "get out of the patient's room, and sit over there in that chair in front of the nursing station" (or whatever you call that area in the center of the ED where all of the staff congregate in front of the computers), jabbing her finger through the air as if she were one of those nuns with the ruler. He informed her that he had permission to be next to me, but she didn't care. He had to sit and watch me shake in pain, and tolerate verbal abuse from the nurse, who kept calling me a crybaby. She had to inject two different pain medicines into my arm, which she didn't do properly, as she jabbed me with two different needles in the same hole! My SO noticed that the injection site was bleeding, so he went to get help. The nurse scolded him, insisting that he was disrupting the doctors, and threatened to call security on him if he didn't return to his seat, then played the "you should be grateful that I allow you to be with your boyfriend" line on him. This whole experience was emasculating, and enraging! She should be fired! Next experience I had was this past Independence Day. I was jumped by two other guys at the LIRR station (around 22:25) and I had to be taken to this hospital because I was concerned about my hip, and I had my calf badly scratched up. This experience was much better than my previous one, however the negligence on the nurses behalf was, and is, still unacceptable! I had my hip x-rayed, and my wounds cleaned, but I needed my calf bandaged. The nurse chucked three small packets of Bacitracin into my lap and said I was free to go. "What about my leg? Aren't you going to bandage it up?", she replied "Sir, that's what the Bacitracin is for...". I was discharged at 03:00, and had to walk roughly 4 miles home! What kind of hospital expects a guy with a sprained hip and open wounds on his leg to walk home?! Most recent experience was also this month (mid-July 2021). My SO (same guy) and I had a "willing adult engagement" with another guy, but this other guy took advantage of the situation and ended up sexually assaulting me. (FYI there is no proof aside from word of mouth, so we can't press charges.) Due to this sensitive issue, and my PTSD condition, the staff were actually very respectful and considerate regarding my privacy by taking me into a closed off section within the ED, so we could discuss what happened. But it went downhill from there. I slipped and said I felt like hurting myself (PTSD talk)-then got thrown into a gown and rolled off to the "pre-psych ward" wing in the ED. No IPods, no phone, and no food! I only came in for Post Exposure Prophylaxes (PEP)-not for mental health issues! Not only that, but I also saw how disrespectfully they treated my temporary room mate who came in for a suicide attempt. Some of the nurse were really nasty to him! I was discharged after being evaluated by the psychiatrist, and given my appropriate medicines. Came in around 16:15 and left around 01:30. That afternoon I needed to speak with the doctor who prescribed me the medicines because I was confused about one of them. When I called I was specifically told "No you may NOT speak with the doctor!". Not only that, but the follow up doctor they directed me to-get this-isn't accepting new clients. And the medicines I was prescribed were only filled partially. How is LICH getting way with such negligence, disrespect, and abuse of their patients? ' I'm fed up with this hospital! I am here since 10 o'clock it's 330. Never saw Dr. Nurse only came to us twice for one minute. And that's because she never was hooked up to IVs. They had to get someone else to do it. The first nurse couldn't get the vein so nobody came back and did it till about four hours later and that's because I went to a supervisor and asked for help there is no excuse for this. They have not told us anything yet. She went for a CAT scan. Still nothing I was told there's only two doctors in the entire emergency room. They told me I could run out for coffee because he probably won't be seen for a while. I will keep you up dated. I had to find somebody to help take herbfrom the IVs because she had to go to the bathroom. They made us wait 20 minutes finally came and that was over an hour ago. They never hooked her up with the IV again I've asked them to hook her up and they still have not come back. Lworst Hospital ever. Spoke to Sarah the head nurse 4 times in a hour she said someone would be by no one ever came back. I had to grab a nurse that was not Stephanie's I pleaded with her and they hooked it up after an hour and a half. read more

I went to this hospital lastly for a surgical surgery on my foot with Dr.Brian Baraban D.P.M From the beginning with Registrar speaking to Linda on 03/27/19 she was very efficient & informative of my upcomings. As well as Michelle for Pre-Opt. RN Maureen was very efficient.. polite & professional. On 04/02/19 I spoke to Maryanne who transferred me to Barbara the person whom I was to speak to Both very professional Barbara set up my appointment and was above & beyond Accommodating. Brian Arpino intake for pre-admissions was on target... friendly.. courteous & informative. Much integrity.. I had my blood work done with Eileen Rothemier and she was very friendly.. gentle & professional. I actually had her for my prior set up for this surgery that I had to cancel. Second time back just as great. She made me feel really comfortable. The office was Pristine Clean. Amanda Kupt's was my PA and she had elite qualities of professionalism... Did not miss a beat on any necessities. She even ordered me a last minute CHEST X-RAY to ensure safety for my surgery. Executed with Excellence. I didn't get the woman's name who did my x-ray however it is of necessary mention she was Fast*Efficient*Kind & Gentle I was in and out of pre-opt in like 40 minutes. Joanne called for my surgery set. She was as well on Point super friendly and courteous. I was even late with traffic and they were gracious & merciful to still pull through for me. Unbelievable in honorable statue of excellence in care. The day of my surgery I was in and out in 4 hrs. The lady at the desk on 03/04/19 was very welcoming. I went in through the Knapp Cardiac Center. Beautifully designed and sparkling clean. Waited only 15 minutes and MA Orlando came and brought me in as well as another patient in a wheelchair. He had high dignity & great manner. Was above & beyond caring and patient. Show me my get ready spot. *ACCOMMODATED me with heated blankets while I waited.. RN Judy Mansfield got me all set up with my iv's and information..She was beyond gentle and professional. There were so many nurses that tended and cared for me Stephanie Lucen* Dennis Maud*Paul D.*Stephanie Anderson. The expertise and above & beyond care was of high elite. Anesthesiologists Dr.Tangatori was very personable and professional Introduced himself kindly.. made me laugh. I knew I was in good hands. No nausea or vomiting after... Dr.Baraban performed a miracle surgery on what he said he's never seen in his entire medical career. He is above and beyond professional... funny... and there is no other I would entrust. Being in recovery for 5 yrs. he came up with the perfect concoction so I would not have to be treated with any narcotics. He is a man that stands strong not only in medical practice and effectiveness but a man the has great moralè and value and treats his patients the same. I am honored to have been under the care of this man. Brookhaven Memorial Community Hospital*Medical Staff & Dr.Baraban & Medical staff correlated to achieve the best results and care a human could wish for.... My husband was brought here when he fell in our backyard and hurt his knee. When I got here after he was admitted a triage nurse found him so I could wave to him. I asked her if there was any paperwork and she said no but he would be given a phone to call me. I came back inside a 2 hours later and the nice nurse was gone and another nurse told me to wait and she would get back to me. Yet another nurse came along and told me to go to the waiting room and they would call me. I asked how could they call me since they didn't ask my name? No answer. this is a death sentence for anyone who has a serious injury. my sister had sprained her knee and we came in and had to wait SEVEN hours for her to be seen and it took over an HOUR for them to give discharge papers after spewing back saying she was fine. The care is horrible i would give this place zero stars if i could. It's actually a joke for a so called hospital. There was a man who had been screaming for NINE hours straight saying he needed a doctor before someone finally took him in. Avoid this place at all costs and please don't take this warning lightly, it can cost you or someone they love their life. Not to mention the staff is completely unprofessional and incompetent. i don't know how they were allowed licenses this entire lls ce needs to be shut down. not to mention, while you sit in the ER waiting to be called there will be doordashers and uber eats being delivered, and the so called nurses that so many people are waiting on will magically appear to pick up their food very quickly but are nowhere to be found to do wtf they get paid to do. read more

I took my wife to the ER. When we entered they had two people at the door who checked our temperature. They asked me to sit in the waiting area while my wife was in the ER. This was a safety precaution due to the Coronavirus. I chose to stay in the car. My wife was out within two hours. I can not account for her care. She said that they were quick to attending to her. read more
