One of the oddest cheeseburgers I can recall ever ordering. While I admire the chef's /…read morerestaurant's enthusiasm to do something exotic, here, it didn't work. It's about execution. The meat was quite odd, both in consistency and taste. If I had to guess, they took reject pieces from their steaks and ground them up, perhaps several days ago? You couldn't cut through it with a fork. It had a strange taste to it. It wasn't at a warm or hot temperature and tasted stale. The onions that they added were delicious, but way too minuscule in size and bulk to have any taste impact. The bun was ordinary, despite their raving and reliance on its quality, and it being a Kaiser roll. The burger lacked customary garnish. Why I order cheeseburgers at high end establishments? In part? I like the quality thick beefsteak tomato slice and crisp, fresh lettuce. Here? No garnish at all, just a patty with a little cheese and onion. If the patty was fresh black angus and juicy, without the weird consistency and taste present here, and had they lavished it with mountains of similar onion and more cheese? --The risky and odd approach to making a cheeseburger might have proven successful. For this cheese to suffice, it, too, would have needed to be more pungent in taste, and abundant in presence. You could barely taste it. The mashed potatoes were quite good but way too salty. I literally crunched down on some salt crystals. That's when you know there's inordinate salt. Weird service and rock hard chairs made this bizarre stop on the way to St. Louis/ Denver more painful to savor. What irritates me was that I had to order a Caesar salad just to obtain roughage. And when you take the $30 for the salad and burger combined into account? That's a lot for such an odd experience. In summary, anyone who watches and implements the Gordon Ramsay Fword cheeseburger recipe on YouTube will end up with a vastly superior cheeseburger. In this town, while I am visiting only, from what I've read and seen in reviews, I'd recommend instead the frosty mug for basic food along these lines. A $24 burger better be pretty darned special to attract this sort of tab. This was just weird, not great. Sorry, no photos.

The prime rib, which was a special that night, my dog would not eat. There was nothing but fat and gristle and extremely thin cut. You could tell our server knew it was bad as he never returned asking us about the meal, just showed up to give us the bill. Quality and professionalism which was there in the past is gone. Every aspect that brought us back has disappeared so we will not be returning.

The food came out relatively fast, and tasted decent. But, those were some of the smallest rolls I've ever seen! I could've probably eaten eight of them! So, overall, the quality was decent, but the portion size was lacking. Not great, considering I paid $24 after tax and tip.

My wife ordered hibachi filet and I ordered the hibachi filet and chicken combo. Our chef was good at the entertainment routine. I was surprised they still do the flipping of food (fried egg here) into peoples mouths. For the fee fried rice and the lo mein both are cooked pretty plain. They add egg to fried rice and nothing to noodles. These sides do get put on plates at the same time as the veggies so I guess you can mix in your own. The add a liberal scoop of minced garlic to the melted butter of everything they cook. So I thought that made everything tasty. We enjoyed everything in the hibachi meal. As you can see from my photo, there was plenty left to take home after eating a lot. I'd say the soup and salad were both just ok. Our server was friendly and very good checking on drink refills, getting our orders in quickly and getting our check. Our room had four grills and was pretty plain. I was surprised how many kids were there, I guess that's the place to take kids for an early dinner in the area. We both liked our food and experience and will return.

Stumbled across this restaurant on a trip to St Louis, and we're glad we stopped. The first thing…read moreto catch the eye is a long glass-front counter full of delightful-looking desserts. The restaurant is obviously a local favorite spot as many other patrons were greeted by name by staff or other diners. We seated ourselves in a booth, of which circles the rest of the room with several tables down the middle. Service was quick, sweet tea for me, not often found in Illinois dining, but perfectly done for this southern girl. Hubby was just as happy with his unsweet tea. The homemade vegetable soup was warm, thick with vegetables, even some cabbage, midst the creamy broth. My hand-presses cheeseburger was as delectable as any, and would have been perfect if tomatoes were in season and carried more flavor. But the lettuce was crisp, the onion sharp, and the pickles crunchy. Hubby has a tossed salad and the catfish dinner. The fish was cooked in cornmeal, a real "down home" dish, plenty of it and plenty of flavor. Hush puppies were delicious, but not enough of them. Then, we both ordered dessert even though we knew we couldn't finish them: strawberry cake and a lemon crème pie. Out of this world! The price was reasonable for the excellent food and service, even in these days of austerity. We definitely intend to return to The Grille!

We both had omelettes and they were terrific. I had a Veggie omelette with cheddar cheese. My hubby had a sausage and cheese omelette with jalapenos. I asked for crispy hash browns and they were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside which was perfect! They serve real butter packets with their pancakes too, not the whipped spread fake stuff! It was busy but the servers were attentive for coffee refills.
