Sort of like subscribing to those businesses that send you cool mystery packages, a farm share is where you pay to support the farm and in return you get a share of the farm's harvest, whatever they end up harvesting. You will need to pick it up yourself of course. Jules invited me to tag along with her to pick up the farm share harvest for the week. No one was really there to monitor everything that day (we were actually the only ones present at the moment). The farm people just left the harvested goods there in a barn and you sign off on the list that you picked up your share! This time around we got scallions, kale, and scallions. There is even a barter box where you can leave behind items you do not want and in return, you can take any items that you want.

And Sweetland is the first place that came to mind. This place is working super hard to bring local, nutritious meats and produce to the community. On top of that, they do everything they can to actually build that community and it's resilience. In normal years, their CSA pickup and you pick crops for members are a really awesome way to meet and visit with neighbors, and they also host a variety of awesome events and let you wander around the beautiful farm. Chris and Norah and the crew are also really kind and welcoming. This year, despite being crazy busy filling their sold out CSA shares, they also put lots of time and effort into starting a grocery pick up service for community members to be able to get food safely. I worked with them on this project, and was amazed by how hard working, caring, and innovative they are. They really cared about their team, other local farmers, and their community. It's very inspiring to be around them.

Luckily found some on the kitchen counter. I explored the store further. They had huge collection of drinks, wines, cereal, large variety of fruits and vegetables. They had hot bar and cafe too, but they were closed when I went. Most of store was very clean. Check out process was quick and easy but no self checkout available.

Prices are high. The staff are professional, friendly, and helpful, except the manager/supervisor of the Prepared Foods section, a woman with a nasty edge. Speaking of prepared foods, fortunately, the muffins are now baked in-house, and are no longer wrapped in cellophane; they look and taste much better than they did when they were baked, off-site, and wrapped in cellophane. The bagels that they bake in the store, from their once frozen state, are like hockey-pucks, and are awful. The locally, bakery baked bagels are better, but, for bagels, my best advice is to head to The Works in Hanover, or The Works, inside DHMC, main campus, in Lebanon. Fortunately, the Lebanon Co-Op carries fresh baguettes that come from King Arthur Flour; they seem to be quite good on the day that they are baked (it's helpful to not have to make a trip to Norwich, VT, for fresh, King Arthur baguettes). In the Prepared Food section, it seems that the Co-Op has gotten rid of their former, rubbery, very commercial grade chicken, in their chicken salad. We have not tasted the Co-Op's other chicken entrees, in the Prepared Food section; one can only hope that the Co-Op got rid of their former, rubbery, commercial grade chicken, in the other prepared, chicken entrees. Some of the other prepared food entrees are very expensive, and of Walmart quality. I don't get it, I'd think that if the Co-Op was going to charge a very premium price for those prepared entrees, they'd, at least, deliver a high quality product, but, they don't. We pick and choose what we shop for at the Lebanon Co-Op. We'd like to support a local business, and OUR Co-Op, but the prices at the Lebanon Co-Op are very high, and the quality of the prepared foods, in general, sucks.

However, the staff are not helpful, not pleasant and are quite rude. If it were not for the flowers themselves I would go elsewhere like Vermont Cut Flowers. They have wonderful flowers with a great staff but I didn't have time to go over there. After having lived in the Upper Valley for about 20 years the attitude sadly reinforces Hanover's reputation. I have enjoyed their annual Dairy Day where they promote products to encourage you to shop at their store but again the overall attitude continues to discourage me from shopping there. The flowers themselves 5 stars. The service probably 1.5.

Dollar General is known for its rock bottom prices, but recently they had to jack up prices because of the inflation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. With that said, I was here with my friend and we were shopping for stuff to be used for the next morning nearby in Fairlee, Vermont. Was pretty cool about Dollar General is that every day food items are priced lower than what you would find in supermarkets, or anywhere else you would find every day food items. Typically speaking, it was a dollar or so before it jumped. It was disheartening but it is what it is. My experience here at the Dollar General was in the evening on Saturday in May 2022. We were probably the only two people shopping at the time around 7pm and the person at the counter remarked that we didn't seem local to the area. My friend said that we weren't and volunteered the information that he was from Canada and I was from Hawaii. The store clerk eyes were wide open and he kind of had that jaw wide open thing that people tend to do when you tell them you're from Hawaii. I get that a lot especially on travel trips. With that said, we'll probably spend around 45 minutes shopping and looking around for stuff that we needed before we checked out. Do you have a lot of good things here that's priced reasonably well, if not a dollar. The story self is clean and organized to a tee. The vibe here reminds me of a mixture of a convenience store and a hardware store. Still good though. The overall experience here at this Dollar General store here in Fairlee, Vermont was comfortable, intimate, and nice. It was very nice to have a location so close to the accommodations I was staying at. It's great to have these locations out in what most people would deem "middle of nowhere", but small towns anywhere rely on these commercial zones for their daily needs, which I realize that's the case. It was funny that the store clerk reacted the way he did. Funny that someone from Hawaii and Canada walked in at the same time buying something in his Vermont store. Probably happens more than I would notice, but it's an uncommon site, I suppose. Of the items I purchased here, I basically gotten a few boxes of gummy fruit snacks, which came in very handy during my running events and during the flight home. Other items I purchased was a few bottles of water and some Gatorade, also for the race. I didn't purchase too much, since I'd have to carry it around and didn't have that much space to store it if I didn't have to. All in all, it was an experience for sure. Small time vibe but it was a great place to shop, especially for budget friendly folks like me. Come on down, you know you want to! This Dollar General store is located at 123 S US-5 in Fairlee, Vermont. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. It was a stand alone building with a generous parking lot, that seemed lonely at times, but we are in rural southeast Vermont. There was just one vehicle in the parking lot when we rolled in. The same was still there when we rolled out back to the Airbnb that my friend and I were staying at for the night. While this Dollar store is a godsend for travelers like me who need these kinds of services in a small town in Vermont, it's a life-line for those who live in the area. Thankful for Dollar General to be here and happy that I could be here to buy stuff to support the local economy, even if I was just passing thru. Dollar General specializes in anything that most people would need generally on a day to day basis. They mostly stock food items and other household goods. Best thing of value would be the food items for sure. While I should have that night during my experience here, should have checked out the ice cream selections there, but it probably wouldn't have agreed with me while I was strutting 26.2 miles around Lake Morley the next morning. If you are near and or around Fairlee, VT, consider sizing up your ride with snacks and drinks on that road trip in or out of Vermont. Possibly the best pit stop you'll make on this side of the NH/VT state line. I guarantee it! 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A
