The owner raises their own beef and pork and uses the local butcher/ slaughterhouse in St Johnsbury to get some great steaks, chops, sausages, ground beef, and more. I got some steaks and ground beef. I was happy & surprised at how gamey and wild their grass only fed cow was. I was not used to that flavor! It was fun and exciting at the same time! Is this the real beef? Is this how beef REALLY tastes, maybe 100 years ago? Price, yeah more of course, but go for it! Very lean beef! Comparable to buffalo. Hartland FM is Fridays 3:00 to 7:00 and a wonderful location at the local Hartland Library.

It's an self serve farm store on an honor system. There was no one else here when we got here, so definitely safe on the social distance front. (Hand sanitizer is provided, and we kept our masks on as per requested by the sign on the door) They have quite a variety of items, farm fresh vegetables, eggs, meats, pantry items like maple syrup granola and jams and hot sauce, and of course, what we are really here for, a variety of local milk, raw milk, cream, and ice cream. We got two of the mint chocolate chips ice cream, one black currant swirl, and one lavender blueberry. I cannot wait to try the lavender blueberry, welcome back and update all that goes! A little out-of-the-way but my goodness was the drive incredibly beautiful and totally worth it. So with the ice cream. They also have cheeses, milk, local meats, baked goods - if I lived in the upper valley I would do almost all my grocery shopping at Killdeer. No need to shop elsewhere!

Another half star off for business practices, based on Killdeer's sanctimonious statements trying to justify their policy of importing foreign workers from poor countries to do their farm labor, instead of hiring local workers. Come on guys, you import foreign laborers for one reason: to maximize corporate profit. There is no difference between what you do, and what mid-western meat-packing plants do. We were greeted by Judith's 3 dogs, what a welcoming! They wanted their ball to be thrown. One of the last reviews stated they were generally there 10-4 on weekends so we took a chance, and I am glad we did. Judith shared their story, invited us to check out the production facility just over the ridge and even go see the goats a few miles away at the goat creamery / dairy. I have always been a fan of caramel, but had no idea you could take it to this level of flavor. We bought the 2oz jar sampler packs to return home to Pennsylvania. The salted bourbon and Vermont maple caramels were my favorite, my wife enjoyed the cold brew caramel and cinnamon. We plan to cut up some fresh apples when we get home to enjoy of new found heaven and remember just how nice Judith was and how she shared a piece of her life with us. Vermont is a beautiful place!
