Everything was neatly put away which she opened right back up again- reassuring me to take my time. I wasn't the last late shopper that she allowed in but I'll bet I was the most grateful. I emailed their landlord, which is the Hanover co-op and reported the issue. They said that it was the farmers market management who was responsible for maintaining the landscaping. The Norwich Farmers did not reimburse me or even respond to my emails with their insurance information. I was going to take them to court, but that would involve my insurance and I don't want my rates to go up. I used to be a customer for years as I live locally but due to their complete disregard for their customers, and horrible management I will never return. I can get what I need from the farms I buy from directly. If you value your car or drive an expensive car be aware.

The orchards are beautifully scenic, a perfect outdoor setting. The staff were all passionate about their orchard and apples. I loved the store portion because they had additional apples that weren't available for picking. They even allowed sampling, so you knew which varieties you would like. There were a handful of choices that I'd never heard of. I knew I needed to buy a bag of the Ashmead's Kernel, they are right up my alley flavor and texture wise. We moved on to the "pick your own" portion. They gave us a fun tractor ride out to the trees. Once there, we quickly filled a bag with an impressive array of apples. I also appreciated that they didn't beat us over the head price wise. While more expensive than some store apples, they weren't as expensive as other orchards I've been to and they delivered a great selection! Highly recommend Poverty Lane Orchards! Just tried their regular non alcoholic cider, it's incredible! I don't recall ever having better. Bet their hard ciders are awesome as well.

But I passed on them in need of vegetables & herbs. If I'm not mistaken each item I bought was $ 1.00 it just over it. * They do NOT take credit cards... Cash or check only. We found this vendor at a farmer's market in Vermont last weekend, with a sign proclaiming…read moresomething along the lines of "the best bacon in the world". We took that as a challenge, and gleefully have to admit that yes, it IS the best bacon in the world. I believe that a pound of nitrate free bacon was about $7-9/lb, and it didn't last. That's about the price for any nitrate free bacon, and here it was actually from some happy, heirloom pigs. It is fattier than some of the bacon you might find elsewhere, so just keep a jar handy to save the drippings to add to potatoes or possibly to deep fry a healthy french fry (http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/lard-the-new-health-food). When we return to Vermont for the 4th of July, we will be picking up a few pounds to take back. It is so very good.
