I purchased a puppy in January, 2024. The process was simple and Amy was very responsive and friendly. I asked to double check that the puppy I wanted was a mini dachshund, and Amy confirmed this. Today, my puppy is healthy and happy. I love him and can't imagine a life without him. However... My little boy came with giardia and coccidia. It was incredibly expensive to treat as it took several rounds of antibiotics. Fast forward till today (he's now 8 months old), he is nearly 18 pounds (and still growing), which is not even close to the weight range for a mini. My vet just confirmed there is no way he is a mini dachshund and is definitely a full-sized dachshund. I love him no less, but it's really frustrating that I received a sick puppy and he's not even the breed I was told he was. read more

As much as I love Hazel she has had health issues. Her first trip to the vet she had the worst case of worms the vet had ever seen. And she ended up needing a lot of orthodontic work done to correct a poor bite. As she got older the vet discovered a heart murmur which she says is hereditary. She now sees a cardiologist and takes a lot of heart medication. She was supposedly a mini wirehair but turned into a silky wire and definitely not a mini!! The good news is that she is a delight! Very loving and nog a mean bone in her body. She has never growled or snapped at anyone. read more

I've adopted three puppies from Amy the first to wear long hair and I paid a lot for them when with the male and at nine years old he died of a heart murmur they said that's hereditary I had a puppy from him who also passed away at 10 from a heart murmur. Which means it came from Amy's dogs. A few years ago we adopted a male puppy from Amy, who ended up having some health problems. This was obviously a hard and heartbreaking experience to go through -- the dog was showing signs of some genetic issues that resulted in seizures. As a young couple working on careers, we were unable to support a dog with special needs. Believe me, if I could of afforded to quit my job and stay home to care for this puppy, I would have. Thankfully, Amy worked with us every step of the way to make things right. She honored her 2 year health guarantee and took the sick pup back, and nurtured him until she could find a safe forever home that could provide special needs care. When we were ready, she let us come back and select a new dog. She also pulled the mom from the breeding pool to ensure this would not happen to anyone else, and called the owners of the other puppies in the litter to make sure that their dogs were healthy. Despite other reviewers comments, we didn't pick up our new puppy until he was about 9.5 weeks old. Despite a short stint with worms (which may be an issue worth looking into), he is a very happy and healthy dog. At now 2.5 years old, he is filled with personality and a total love bug. His temperament is wonderful, and he has the most beautiful coat -- people are constantly admiring his handsome coloring. At the end of the day, her customer service and care are the reason I'm writing this review. In the future, we would consider another dog from Long Dox. read more

In my personal experience, this breeder engages in questionable practices, like selling puppies before they are 8 weeks old. Even once weaned, puppies need to stay with mom and siblings to learn bite inhibition and appropriate dog behaviors. AKC and experts all recommend 8-12 weeks with mom. Separating them too early leads to behavior problems. I also saw the birth date changed for puppy so he could fly (they need to be 8 weeks to go on the plane). This review (originally published several years ago) was republished since moderators couldn't decide if this was personal experience. Yes, it was my interaction with this place that led to these conclusions. Also my puppy ended up with mites and bald patches, which come from the mother. You can do better than here when deciding to bring a new puppy to your home. read more

We purchased the most adorable cream brindle puppy from Amy in March of 2018. Our experience with Amy was extremely positive. We live about 3 hours away and she was very accomodating with our inability to give her an exact time that we would be there. Her place is beautiful and clean, with an absolutely gorgeous yard. Our puppy was the smallest in her litter and is huge on personality! We picked her up right when she was 8 weeks old and her entire litter was still there, even though they were all sold. They all looked very healthy and well cared for (and were some of the most beautiful Dachshund puppies I have seen). We were able to meet both of the parents. Mister Finnegan (our puppy's Dad) was so lovable and sweet. He just wanted our attention the whole time we were there! Her Mom was also sweet and we sat and watched her explore for a while. Amy didn't hurry us and never got impatient with me when I was originally trying to decide between our puppy and one that was younger and in a different litter. Our puppy "Ilah" just had her next vaccinations and our vet says she is in perfect health. We are head over heels in love with her and would definately purchase another puppy from Amy! I was reading the other reviews and they were very shocking to hear. So much so that I have to share my 2 cents on the matters. I am a fellow breeder of 12 years and I've been using Amy's sires to breed to my females this past year since all of my males are retired. I chose her because she has beautiful dogs with great temperament. I have such a beautiful line of dogs and I wanted to ensure that their legacy of great temperament and disposition would not be diluted if I chose the wrong male to breed to. I have bred to Romeo, Rex, Maddox, and have an upcoming litter due with Chewy as the sire. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. So far, we have kept 2 puppies that we plan on showing. Although I can't speak to Amy's breeding practices necessarily since I have not purchased a puppy from her yet, I can speak to the quality of her lines of dogs, especially with the males I have listed above. I wouldn't have chose her sires if I didn't have confidence in her as a breeder. I try not to criticize even when I may have an opinion about releasing a puppy prior to 8 weeks, but how long before? If it just a few days before, even I have done that if a buyer wants time for a puppy to adjust over a weekend and they turn 8 weeks on a Tuesday or so. I do know that Amy is unbelievably accommodating with her buyers when it comes to any issues with her puppies... even more so than I would be. As far as vaccines are concerned, I used to give mine at 6 weeks when I first started breeding as that is what I was originally told to do. It wasn't until I read several years later that only 15% (or so) of puppies might take that young, and it is better to wait until they are 9 weeks "ideally". That was easy when I was keeping puppies until they were 10-12 weeks, but my living situation hasn't allowed me to keep them beyond 8 weeks. So I now give the vaccines at 8 weeks, or the day before the buyer picks the puppy up. I don't think anyone purposely does something wrong as most of it just comes down to awareness. I can say that as a breeder, it's always a learning process, regardless how long a person has been breeding. Had I not read that article, I'd still be giving vaccines at 6 weeks, so it doesn't surprise me if other breeders do. Trust me, a breeder wouldn't "purposely" waste a vaccine, as they cost us money. In my opinion, it's just an "awareness" issue. It literally took years for me to learn and adjust my practices as I went along. Every breeder I know does things differently. Most do what they know or have learned to do. I never criticize... if anything, I "educate" if I disagree with a breeders practices... and who's to say I do things right either? At the end of the day though, I have complete confidence in Amy as a breeder and the quality of her dogs and puppies. In fact, I plan on getting a male puppy from her in the near future. read more
