At the age of 40, 18 months after our first child was born, my husband and I decided to continue growing our family. To our surprise, we got pregnant right away, but it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy. I went to see two fertility doctors for evaluation and was told by both that my egg reserve was very low and my egg quality was very poor. In addition, my tubes were swollen and full of liquid, which was creating a toxic environment. I was recommended surgery to remove one of my tubes. My hormone test results were devastating, my FSH was 85, at a level of perimenopause, my ovaries were shut down and not working. So I started my acupuncture journey with Dr. Vivian, who was always so patient with me and very informative about each step of the process. Vivian is indeed a miracle worker! I have done acupuncture before, mainly for my anxiety due to the assumption that this type of approach can only help de-stress me, but oh was I so wrong. I have a lengthy history with gastric issues and due to some harsh treatments was left with the aftermath of the wreckage such as nausea, bloating, constipation, vertigo, and the list can go on. I have been an active and competitive runner ever since high school. After college, I adopted a runner's lifestyle and participated in races all over New York, New Jersey and Florida. Indeed, over the last 40 years, I have run many 5K, 10K, Half Marathons and over 20 Marathons; including the New York Marathon for 10 consecutive years. Approximately a year ago, I injured my right leg and this caused me to suffer great pain whenever I tried to walk or run. My husband and I have been to Dr. Shou's practice for more than 5 years, both with different issues as we are exercise a lot, running, spinning, swimming, etc and the results are always the same, a miraculous improvement of our ailments. In the past 4 months I've seen Dr. Shou for two different reasons. The first one was pain in my right hip and leg, in the Piriformis muscle. I went to see her and with her natural calming demeanor and soft voice she started to put the needles in, needless to say that after the first one the pain in my leg had gone from a lot to almost nothing. I went a second time and the pain was gone, and it has been gone since then. The second time was for pain related to a herniated disc. I got a muscle spasm on a Friday night that was excruciating, I texted her and she found me a spot the next day (Saturday).
