Looking for hot meal while traveling through southern Illinois. Decided on the LHSH after a full day of travel. For starters we had side salads and bread. Wifey ordered the salmon with asparagus and rice. Modest slab, perfectly prepared and generous asparagus portion. Asparagus was disappointing - on the old, dry side. I went with one of my favorite comfort meals ... large portion of grilled hamburger streak smothered with mushrooms, onions and gravy, and a side of mashed potatoes. Heavenly ! Joined the clean plate club. Cherice was our server. She was very responsive to our needs and respectful of our time. Restaurant was modestly busy. Ambience was warm and inviting. My husband and I ordered the same exact cut, just different sides. His mash potatoes were ice cold, his steak was overcooked from the temperature he requested and about half the thickness of mine. This has to be one of the best tasting steaks in the area. Even better than The Ribeye, but you can't beat their salad bar. They are properly seasoned and tasty. The sautéed mushrooms are to die for. I used to love the stuffed mushrooms. Then they changed the recipe, reducing the complexity of the flavors and replacing them with a spicy drizzle that means I can't eat them. I was sad, but it's just one dish, right? Now they've changed the shrimp and lobster chowder - again eliminating the richness and the complex lobster forward flavor, thinning the soup and adding a lot of pepper. Again, making it something I can't eat. I have no problem with having spicy things on the menu - but it ruins my experience when the few non-spicy options are changed to increase the pepper level. Luckily, the steak remains delicious, the pork chops are tender and juicy, and the strawberry pecan salad remains delicious (and has not been spiced up) And the service was excellent. Salads were fresh and the dressings very good. Liked the fries and the mashed potatoes were delicious. The broccoli was a tad over cooked to my liking but it was covered in butter, that worked. The shrimp/lobster chowder was a disappointment, thought it would be like a New-England style but it was more of a corn chowder. The cocktails were disappointing (we like Outback's best). They were out of bread and salmon at the beginning of the dinner hour. This place needs a manager! The smell when you get to your table is like a locker room, someone needs to wash the towels and wipe the tables down (wash the floor too). One waitress for the whole place? Longhorn was one of my wife and I's go-to spots prior to COVID, but we hadn't gone for a couple years prior to last night, so we were cautiously optimistic. Overall, it was a very positive experience. The food was really good and reasonably priced. My wife ordered the parmesan chicken and I ordered the pork chops and both were tender and flavorful. We also ordered the Brussel sprouts which were delightful and the margaritas we ordered were delicious. Our server, Isaac, was also excellent. The food came out hot and was served in a timely manner. It's my boyfriends birthday. Since they don't have outdoor seating I ordered food to go. Checked the bag there was no bread and butter when i said online that i wanted it. After waiting 5 minutes then we left because we were hungry. By the time we got to the park like 20 minutes away there was no cutlery. I said on my online order i wanted 3 cutlery. It's disappointing to pay almost $100 and not get the service we paid for. Also its my boyfriends birthday and i feel bad because then we had to go get cutlery at a drugstore when it shouldve been included in the bag. What a disappointment! There were 10 tables occupied, so this was not an extremely busy evening. It took over 20 minutes for my order of chicken tenders to arrive, and the server apologized for the slow arrival of my food. However, he complicated the issue by telling me there were only two servers in the restaurant that night, and I counted five. My food was served cold, and had obviously, by the appearance of the baked potato, had sat in the back quite a while. And apparently, no sour cream also means no butter. I took a bite of the potato and a bite of one chicken, tender and the food was not even warm. The server graciously took my food back and put it in the microwave. When my food returned, I did not have a fork. And I will say that the longhorn steakhouse chicken tenders are not any good after they've been heated in a microwave. Again, the server was apologetic, but the combination of cold food, slow service, etc. left a "disappointing, taste" in my mouth. read more

HA! I had no memory of being here before! After reading that old review, I remember the experience, but not where it happened. This is one where I really wish I could give a rating of 3.5... We were seated right away for lunch at a table for six. Each time our server came out, she stood at the end where there were two extra seats, rather than coming over to the side where my husband and I were seated. The table next to us was empty so I'm not sure what prevented her from coming around - there was plenty of room. She was so soft-spoken, too; it was nearly impossible to hear her. My husband asked for unsweetened peach tea and she brought back a glass with a spoon and a pretty clear blob of something at the bottom. He asked what the blob was and what the spoon was for and she said that was the peach sweetener! Yikes. Fail! He then just asked for a glass of plain unsweetened tea and that solved the issue. I got one of the Flo steaks and my husband got the Long Horn. They were on the same list of items, yet only I got a salad. We were going to ask about it but decided to just let it go. The bread was hot and yummy (and came with the proper knife this time!). Appetizers are totally unnecessary if you're going with a steak entrée. Enjoy the bread and salad instead! Our son was impressed with the kid's menu and it had enough activities for him that he was busy until the food arrived. He loved his chicken and fries and my steak was divine! Oh-so-good! The baked potato was good, too. Everything just hit the spot perfectly. My husband's steak was nearly as big as the state of Texas and he enjoyed it. He claimed some of it was overcooked but to me it all looked like it was not quite done mooing. :) Each time the server checked on us, she never took any plates away. We started an impromptu game of 'where can we possibly stack this'? We assume she was probably new. She wasn't rude and our orders were correct so those are definite plusses, but overall, I complained about the service the last time we visited so the staff could probably use some polishing. Usually great food and service. We went at 4:00 pm on Saturday, MAY 20TH to avoid busy time. Ordered the bone in Rib-eye. I asked for well done and it came to me as a charcoal briquette burned on one side completely. I complained to waitress and Manager. They couldn't care less that I paid $30 for a burnt charcoal steak. After Co-vid this is the typical service you get. We arrived about 20 minutes ago. A 20-30 minute wait. 6-7 empty unbussed tables. Not organized service bar people at all. Glass of wine was dirty. We're waiting along with about 8 different groups. Throws the tissue away and DID NOT USE the hand sanitizer bottle RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER, or wash her hands!! Well there goes my desire to EVER COME BACK AGAIN! She was the one who seated me, brought my menu and handled my utensils and napkin. REALLY?!?? After her nose draining procedure, she goes back to playing on her phone. Two guys walk in and she says I'll seat you, grabs their menu and utensils as I'm walking out. Y'all are so worried about COVID-19, yet this lady is clearly probably spreading it by her unsanitary actions. I recently had an excellent experience here! I went here with my husband, my cousin and his wife. The restaurant had a Western Theme. They had a good selection of steaks. The cook prepared our steaks exactly how we ordered them. Our waitress was very polite. I liked that she hit a good balance of keeping our glasses of drinks full but not being pushy. It was a good place to have great conversation and decent food! I definitely liked the service that we received. Everybody from the hostess, the waitress, and any other employees who we met were very positive and helpful people! We definitely chose the right restaurant when we chose this one!
