    Ribeye/potato/bread "pre-game meal"

I travel to Champaign from Chicago annually to referee UoIL hockey games. Always before my Saturday assignment, I go to the Champaign TXRH to relax and have a pregame meal before the hockey mayhem begins. It's sorta like the calm before the storm effect. My bartender/server Ariel was most friendly + gracious. She took my order, kept my glass filled and made my dining experience most relaxing. I met this nice dad Brady and his daughter who were later in attendance at the hockey game. Everyone is so friendly there. If you want a great dinner / sporting event experience, get the TXRH steak dinner and Illini home hockey game combo. You will not be disappointed!! Ref Jim.

Texas Roadhouse is always a go to place on the weekend. It does get very busy at night so make sure you join the waitlist ahead of time. The New York strip has a great crust and a nice fat cap which I personally love. The cactus blossom is a classic and is a great appetizer that feeds multiple people. The rolls are a hit or miss as sometimes they are undercooked but for the most part they come out nice and toasty and serve as a great free appetizer. Environment is nice and lively and the staff are always eager to serve you. Come check it out if you haven't and if you join their VIP program ahead of time you can get a free appetizer!

I come here with my boyfriend for dates and the food is quite good. I enjoy the steak and the fried pickles and my boyfriend is a big fan of the blooming onion and the ribs. Obviously the rolls are amazing. They can be underbaked sometimes (slightly doughy inside). Overall is a affordable place to head to with friends with great food and good vibes.

The taste was fine, but rather than an orange peel, there was an orange slice. Rather than a a deep purple cherry, there was a bright red maraschino. Salad bar is a blast from the past. Can't remember the last time I saw one at a restaurant. Good mix of fixings in it, no complaints. They also bring a fresh backed mini loaf of bread which is decadent. They steak was perfectly cooked. Got the 8oz ribeye with Cajun seasoning done medium. Spot on, and fairly tasty, though I had to salt it a bit towards the end. The mushrooms were good, the broccoli was mushy. The ambiance gives me mixed emotions. The lighting was as bright as a Denny's. Totally uncharacteristic of a steak house. Though, there were a lot of children dining and everyone was dressed casually. Yet from the outside, the place looks classic steakhouse and elegant. They also have Illini sports paraphernalia hanging in the walls which was pretty cool. Service was fast and friendly. I was in and out in an hour, including my 10 minute wait. Plenty of hired help waiting and bussing tables. Line out the door. I read some recent reviews of people bashing this place because of food quality and service. That was not my experience, and I look forward to coming back again. Just no broccoli!

We ordered two of their specialty cocktails, which took a little long to be delivered but subsequently were very good. Next we ordered the stuffed mushrooms, Halibut and filet medallions. Service was a little slow so we decided to just enjoy the time together. Our appetizer arrived and was outstanding. It was a bit of a wait for our entrees to appear and when they did we were disappointed with the wait. The filet was ordered medium well and arrived seared to almost well done other than the very center was cold and red. The halibut was overcooked as well but regardless I decided to enjoy the halibut because it was still palatable. The filet, on the other hand was not. It was tough and just not very good. I fully expected to spend the money on a fine dining experience but didn't feel that experience was met. We will try Baxter again in the future with hopes of a better experience but our history there has been hit and miss!

Nice place, will come back again to try the steak.

To some the masquerade will come off as silly -- and not worth the added price -- but many seem to enjoy being swept up in the art deco interiors and old school dishes. The food is like the theme park version of a steak dinner. We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu: a pair of salads, and the beef tenderloin tails and Parmesan crust chicken as entrees. All of the flavors were cranked up to a level that would stand up against a steak. Both entrees came with mashed potatoes and green beans that were heavy on the garlic. It was hard to taste the underlying vegetables, with all of the seasoning. The preparation makes some sense if you think of a steak with demi-glace as the centerpiece, but they overpowered the chicken handily. The salad dressings were equally strong. In particular, the spinach salad had a dressing like sweet-and-sour sauce that was jelly-like with rendered bacon fat. The entrees themselves were competent but not remarkable. The tenderloin was cooked medium rare, and two thirds had a creamy interior with crisp char on the outside. The last third, however, was tough and required some sawing with the dull steak knife. The chicken had either brined or sat on the heater for too long. It had some juice left but was also tough. Perhaps the best item we ordered was the kids cheeseburger. Well-done with oversized steak fries on the side -- simple enough that you could taste both the ground beef and the potato. The food itself warrants three stars. And here is a tip: the local Costco sells gift cards to the restaurant with a 20% discount. Where a meal can easily run $50 here, knocking the tab down to $40 might be worth it for a special occasion. The service, however, knocks the review down by a star. The kitchen lost our ticket and, as a result, our party waited forty minutes following the salad for the first entree to arrive to the table, plus another fifteen for the second and third. The chef was very gracious and apologetic when he brought the final dishes out personally. However, the fact that his arrival was the first time the staff acknowledged a problem to us -- long after they had discovered the issue and begun addressing it -- suggests that there is a larger breakdown between the back and front of house. I had thought that a 6 pm reservation would get our family home early on a school night but I was quite mistaken. Probably they won't lose your ticket when you dine in, but I will think twice before getting back in line for the theme park ride.

The ambiance of the restaurant is very pleasant, dark wood decor, lovely dining music playing. There were only a couple of other tables with customers so it was a pretty relaxed setting, but u can imagine this would be a lovely date night spot or group dinner venue. We enjoyed our dishes (pictures included) and unlike other Italian restaurants that often provide huge portions, these meals were appropriately portioned and filling. We also had the tiramisu for dessert; it was different than what we are accustomed too. Much more creamy and more like a pudding than a cake. Overall we enjoyed our experience and dinner!
