I hiked Trail 150 to the summit in 45 minutes. The trail was moderate, although closer to the summit it gets steeper, with more sheer drop-offs. There are a lot of loose rocks, but we didn't have any problems. Just pay attention to where you step. The views were worth it! At the top, there's a 360-degree view of the city and the surrounding mountains Bring water - you will need it. Limited parking No bathrooms

I love this hike...it's short, sweet and to the point....of a summit! I used to work in this area, so used this hike as my workout, since it totally beats the scenery at the gym. It's about a 500 ft climb to the top, where you have awesome views of the city and surrounding mountains. It's a short trail to the summit, about .9 miles out and back, but It's steep, which gives you a great workout. There's a lot of parking right off of 16th street and Greenway. You can take some other trails around the park as well, if you want to do some more hiking. Overall, this hike is easy to get to, offers excellent views and a great workout!

Lookout Mountain Preserve is a good place to enjoy a really nice evening (or morning) hike.  You'll pass through some lovely landscape, and you might even get to see Wile E. Coyote's nemesis ;-) Tip: There lots of easy parking here, and it's a good place to take visitors if you want to show them so nice views. Once you hike up a short ascent, you'll be rewarded with your choice of several vantage points where you can look out at downtown Phoenix, Four Peaks, and/or the U of P Stadium.  If you're not used to climbing take your time going up the hill, and remember to bring water!

Beautiful views from the top! When the trail ends you have to do a little climbing to get to the top so hiking shoes or boots are needed in my opinion. I would recommend

So many trails! Heed the posted sign about bringing some water and not overstepping your personal abilities. Parts of the trails we followed were quite steep and rocky. It's a great place to enjoy the view and get some steps. There are also trails for all levels, so even if you can't make it all the way to the summit, you'll still find something interesting. Bottom line: Water at all times of the year and bring your phone for that awesome mid-hike selfie.

New favorite hiking spot! Fairly large parking lot. There is a cul-de-sac but no parking signs posted. Trail is only a mile to the summit and back but there is a moderate amount of elevation gain. I think ~ 500 feet. Spectacular views of the north, east, and south mountains around the city. This short hike is strenuous only in spots but is otherwise fairly easy. The path to the summit does flatten out but can be a bit challenging to get to if you're new to hiking like I am (not many mountains in Wisconsin). The trail was very rocky and not very well maintained and not very well marked but easy enough to figure out. We went on a Sunday and we only saw a handful of other couples. Do not skip or overlook this spot!

We had such a great experience at Lookout Mountain Preserve. It was our first time in Phoenix and we wanted to get a good view of the mountains. This location was perfect because it was close to our hotel and easily accessible. The area provided plenty of parking, picnic areas with grills, and clean restrooms. We can't wait for our next visit to Phoenix, so we can enjoy a day at Lookout Mountain Preserve.

I'm guessing Paul McCartney was singing about Lookout Mountain when he serenaded us with, "the long and winding road, that leads me to your summit". Well, it seems that The Walrus had a flair for exaggeration. While the path was truly winding, it really wasn't that long. Total time up and back was 29:18. Pretty easy hike. This was my first of four mountains, one Saturday in April.

Views are insane, from the moment you park, you can see down 16th st and at the top you can see even downtown! you unfortunately can't see sky harbor but it is a very nice mountain. just very scary at night due to coyotes

Saw my first live diamond back rattle snake here. Gorgeous sunsets and sun rises. Not a huge area but good enough to work up a sweat. Trails around the base are easier. Great for all skill levels.

Easy drive up the mountain, gorgeous views. If going for sunset get there early as lot parking is sparse.

Ask the Community - Lookout Mountain Preserve

Is there a place to park and still have a view from the car? Wanting to do a car picnic

Yes, go all the way up 16th street and the gate is usually open. A little round about for maybe 10-12 cars at the base of the mountain. Great view too!

    Is it Dog friendly?

    Yes

Do I need to hike far to get to a good spot to see the sunset or can I park & be able to walk a very short distance to get a good view? I'm 36 weeks pregnant & would love to just watch the sunset from a mountain without having to waddle too far.

well, you could sit in your car, but why would you drive all the way to a mountain preserve and not hike? If you want to drive to the top of a mountain in phoenix go to South Mountain and watch sunset up there.

The view from the summit is a good one, although certainly not the best that Phoenix has to offer.

But personally, I just don't see it being worth the price of $14 a person. One of the biggest things for me was that the actual area itself felt a lot smaller than I expected. On top of that, there were SO many people packed in that it was hard to even stop for a second and actually enjoy the ambiance without constantly being surrounded by crowds or trying to move around people. It kind of took away from the experience because instead of feeling immersive or relaxing, it mostly just felt overcrowded. What also made it hard for me to justify the price is that you can literally see the entire thing through the fence from the park next to it. Honestly, if I ever wanted to see it again, I'd probably just go sit at the park, save my money, and actually have more room to enjoy the view comfortably without feeling packed in shoulder to shoulder with everyone else. Overall, it's definitely very pretty and visually impressive, but for me personally, the experience didn't match the cost enough to make me want to return.

I'd give the cleanliness and overall park quality a 10/10. There's something for all ages, and it's easy to spend a whole afternoon there. The train is definitely cute and fun for kids, but it's a bit overpriced at $5 per ticket, even for a one-year-old. Unfortunately, our experience with the train staff really took away from it. The woman taking tickets was extremely rude and didn't speak to us at all -- no hello, no eye contact, no thank you, nothing. It honestly felt like she didn't want to be there or interact with families. I was trying to make it a fun moment for my child by having them hand over the ticket, but they actually got scared and hid behind me. The woman selling the tickets, on the other hand, was very kind and welcoming. The park itself can also get very crowded, and we noticed older kids sometimes take over the younger kids' play areas, which can make it hard for little ones when there's roughhousing or inappropriate language. That's not really the park's fault, but it's something to be aware of if you have small children. Overall, it's definitely worth visiting at least once because it's a beautiful space with tons to do. I personally prefer smaller neighborhood parks for a calmer experience, but Anthem Community Park is great in terms of facilities. The biggest areas for improvement would be crowd management in the play areas and better, more family-friendly staffing for the train.
