There's only one place where the birds can access water at the lake. I see a lot of birds try to drink water but they can't due to the tall ledge. Little ramp or platform would really help these birds. They are also residents here and deserve access to water when they mostly drink car wash water from the streets. read more

My consistent go to for walking with and without my dogs. Very safe, clean, spacious, and close to a walking trail as well. The dog park connected, beautiful gardens, and lake make walking there so enjoyable. Normally very busy on weekends, but weekdays are wonderful! read more

One of my favorite parks in Arizona. Boasts giant lakes, a large new playground, and endless greenery. Not to mention, the constant supply of many kinds of geese and ducks. Apparently some people don't like geese but I love feeding them (I don't feed them much, I know that's controversial). My absolute favorite park! I go for yoga and walking, in which, I love this location due to the opened field, plenty of free parking and the location is perfect coming from any direction!!! There is an ice cream truck roaming the lots for kids/parents treats for after all the softball games going on. There's football games going on in the open field, in which, I won't tell which teams I've seen play there but they are there! (Celebrities) The park is huge!!! In fact, it took me quit sometime to locate my pal who was meeting me there because I didn't realize how big it was until one weekend when this happened. It's peaceful walks, and not too crowded with bike riders and pets but they do have a dog park on one end which is awesome! The park is perfect for photos, picnics and BBQs going on! I've been to so many parks in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Gilbert but none compare to this location. It's clean and the vibes are good vibes all around. CP is a large and long park in NE Scottsdale. I liked that is wasn't crowded at all. The lake with the geese is very nice. It looked clean and well kept up. Nothing really stood out for me but it's an above average park with a baseball field, fenced dog park and jogging path. Recommended. read more

Chaparral Park is one of several dozen in Scottsdale and probably the nicest. We had a chance to walk the mile and a half paved path today around the lake. And we meet lots of friendly pups and folks enjoying a mild sunny AZ day. The geese and duck population is pretty large, but they tend to leave the joggers and walkers alone. But the special treat of the day was seeing a rare Black Flamingo (see photos). If you want to enjoy a nice day in the park, with lots of places to stop and relax or workout, you need to make this part of your regular routine. Enjoy! read more

Well honestly I was feeling kinda well you know anxious and depressed from all the horrific news of the year and needed cheering up. So off to the park we went. Drove in the Chaparral Road entrance and parked by the fishing pier. This place is huge, includes a dog park and Xeriscape demonstration garden among many other things. https://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/parks/chaparral-park The geese must have known I needed them. A whole gaggle showed up and surrounded me. Their leader approached me first and was not shy. After a few seconds of apprehension I realized they were very sweet and only interested in the food, not my fingers or toes. Their warmth and simple curiosity filled me with necessary sunshine in this dark year. Thank you my lovely geese for being so sweet. And as for the pair of ducks that showed up, my finger is sore but okay. Your enthusiasm made me laugh as you jumped up to grab food from my hand until I had no more. Second visit their leader remembered me, ran right up and stood on my feet while politely waiting for food! I'm sure if I visited each day this particular goose would accept petting. I have been coming to Chaparral Park since 1989. This Park can be considered the Central Park for Scottsdale. It has a large lake you can kayak in as well as a pool and restrooms. They have a parking lot if you are coming by car. I usually just bike ride around when I am riding the Maricopa Trail from Shea down to ASU. The bike trail runs right though this park. You are very close to Downtown Scottsdale when you are here and can get some dinner or shopping after. read more

I've lost count of the number of times I've visited Chaparral Park, but it's probably over 100 to date... and that's before it became the "home field" for my son's club soccer team! Chaparral Park is gorgeous... whether you go to the north end of the park for the off leash dog area, the open fields for sports, take a walk along the green belt and/or feed the ducks in the lake, or head to the wide open green space on the south side for an event or just to chill, there is something for almost everyone. There are benches for sitting and relaxing, but I don't believe there are any swing sets, jungle gyms, etc... for young kids to play. That being said, bring a ball or an activity and you'll be fine. Chaparral Park is well kept, has restrooms, plenty of parking, and is super conveniently located. I'm a fan, my husband is a fan, my kids enjoy it, and so does my dog! I will likely be spending a lot more time here in the future. There are far worse places to spend your time. See you there! read more

There isn't really anything more this park needs.. it is wonderful! I've been coming here for years and never gave a review.. it never occurred to me...until I was looking up the hours for something and the review by Maia H came up( it was posted 1 month previously) and I was confused by her remarks; UNTIL I looked into it more. #1- She isn't a local. #2-She was here during spring.. a very rainy spring for Scottsdale this year, 2024 (yay for us,sorry for her.) The Chaparral Park is HUGE-100 acres. It has 2 lakes, 6 baseball fields, 2 sand volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts and 10 station exercise course, soccer fields, a dog park, a playground and an aquatic center complete w/community pool and the lake is for boating and fishing. It is well lit, safe and very clean. The Chaparral Park is also part of the Scottsdale Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt-which is an 11 mile long group of similar wonderful parks with courses, courts, golf, lakes and activities galore that used to be called the Slough. Back in the day when this natural wash was flooded by our monsoon rains or runoff rain from the high country, Scottsdale was divided in two and subject to major flooding. Something needed to be done so the Army Corp of Engineers was tasked with a solution. Now the plan was to build bridges and concrete over the natural wash like in the LA area (think Grease's racing scene or To Live and Die in LA) but a resident suggested something much better... and after many deliberations, meetings and votes we have it. During the rainy times the parks flood... they are DESIGNED to do that to control and redirect all the water down to eventually the Salt River. Unfortunately to some who see the park immediately after an event like this, they'll witness the aftermath of all the debris the rushing flood waters leaves behind. Debris such as reeds, broken twigs, plastic shopping bags, cups, forks, food containers, dead fish ( and all things that go with fishing : hooks, lines, etc.) paper and sometimes diapers along with anything else caught in the fast moving water as it's draining its way down to the treatment facilities to the Salt. After the water is gone the Scottsdale Parks dept cleans everything up and we are right back to walking and playing and enjoying the beautiful Chaparral Park. It's a shame Maia H. saw this and assumed it was due to a failure on the town's department in not caring for this park because I have lived on the Greenbelt for 30 years and that is not the case! Had she had time she would have, hopefully enjoyed what we all enjoy.... read more

Welp.... Counted over 10 dead fish just floating in the lake. It's disgusting and spreads disease... the city should clean this up.

Good place for a short walk. Very pretty, but it can be a bit congested between runners, walkers, dogs, and people on bikes. Overall a great spot if you don't want a longer walk or a "real" hike. Easy to get in and out of too but parking can fill up on weekends. read more

Whenever I'm in Scottsdale during the day I stop by this park. I love the water feature and how large it is but because of its sheer size, it should have a couple of bridges to enable you to cross over, at least one that cuts through the middle. Also, a consistent sidewalk should surround the lake. The sidewalk ends in certain places. Lots of birds here, picnic tables, verandas, and you can fish here. I see people catching some large fish. Also, I love that they put pine trees here. Overall, a pretty nice park. It just needs some improvements. read more

This is a great park to stretch your legs. I love the walking (jogging, biking) path. Actually, you can start here and go for quite a long walk. I find there aren't a lot of people out in the mornings on the weekdays. Even in the summer, it isn't overwhelmingly hot if you come out before 6 a.m. or just when the sun is starting to come out. It feels so refreshing with all the green grass and the lake. Great place to be for a brisk walk. read more

Variety. That is the best word for this south Scottsdale Greenbelt park it has playground equipment, a skateboard park, soccer fields, baseball fields and even a river running through it. It even a Frisbee Golf Course . However, with all this variety, it excels at nothing, but does provides large variety of options. I have played in two Scottsdale kickball leagues at Chaparrel Park and attended countless picnics here. I regularly ride my bike through here on the cement trail that runs the length of the Scottsdale Green Belt. Come check it out, and wave if you see me. read more

This is one of the nicest parks I've been to. Has a little something for everyone. A very large dog park on the North end. Lots of sports fields. A beautiful lake you can fish in. A pretty cool, brand new, play ground that makes me wish I was 8 again. There is a public pool if your looking to do laps. Lots of exercise activity stations around the lake. I've used the fields for activates like playing bocce. Parking can be limited if there is an activity going on like a kids sporting event. The ducks are the Kings of this place. Don't eff with them or they will eff you up. The large white one is the leader. Also don't feed the ducks. It's a rule but there is only a few signs. With all this, how can this park be any better? It is if you're a Pokemon go player. This is a great nest spot to play at. 5 gyms around just the lake, more in the rest of the park. With at least twice as many stops. It's a mile walk around the lake, great for getting steps. It's a nest spot so it sometimes will have lots of harder to catch pokes as the nests rotate. I've really upped my Pokemon go game since I've been coming here. Team mystic has a strong hold here so be warned. Lots of friendly raid groups too. Happy hunting. read more

We visited Chaparral park on our way back from Sedona. I had my fishing poles so we decided to try our luck. The park was a bit crowded with children playing soccer and basketball; people just taking a stroll around the lake which is a paved walking path. The lake is dirty but that was expected for a lake located in a large city. I saw some dead fish floating on side of the lake; unfortunately, we did not even get a nibble. Ample parking and restrooms are available. Overall, good experience and would return if ever in the area. read more

Hands down one of the best parks in Scottsdale/Paradise Valley. There's ample parking (be careful of the weekend family rush though) and so much space to roam around. There's a pond that attracts ducks which my kids adore, an awesome playground and Ramadas galore for parties. Also a dog park nearby for the fur babies. Beautiful baseball diamonds, multiple soccer fields, volleyball courts, ramadas available via reservation, and a wonderful expanse of grass to run around enjoy the beautiful Phoenix weather. This park seriously is huge and there is a multitude of places to park. If you're overzealous like me, you'll probably try to park right away. But if you're trying to avoid a 15 minute walk to find your friends, take your time and make sure you navigate the different parking lots to find the closest one. The baseball diamonds have parking right next to them, same with the soccer fields, and the other common areas. I was meeting a group of friends to play wiffle ball and have a picnic on a pleasant Saturday, and we did not know that we had to reserve various picnic spots/ramadas. Make sure you do that at http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/parks/reservations. This way you can be sure you won't be kicked out. There are tons of places to hang out though, and we ended up just finding an area by the water that was open and had free tables. It was definitely enough space to play wiffle ball, football, soccer, frisbee, or anything else! Just to really let you inner child out, there are ducks usually in the water and we saw a super cute kid feeding them. It's probably not the best idea to do that/not really allowed, but hey, kids will be kids. read more
