    Top of camelback!

My legs are like jello, but I'd do it again! If you have the energy and the desire to scramble over rocky Crags, GO DO IT. It's hard. But fun. And you don't have to do the whole thing!

Very cool trail minutes away from most of the hotels and restaurants in Scottsdale. Warning for beginners-- It's more steep at certain sections than I originally expected and probably not for beginners but manageable for average to expert hikers. I do have to say I was surprised at how they allowed such small children and novice hikers with sandals and flip-flops climb some of the sections. Just as I was taking a few pictures we heard someone yelling from above at the next difficult section for help. Someone had just fallen and they immediately closed the trail and sent everyone back down. We cleared the area quickly to give the rescue teams room to work and didn't stick around to see what happened but heard later that the individual was sent to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Parking is VERY limited and normally full from opening to close. Be prepared to wait awhile for a spot or to park further away and start your hike from the street below. Clean restrooms were available at the start of the trail and the trail itself is very well maintained with informative signs along the path.

My son loves to hike so after the 2025 AAE Arizona Cup we opted to hike the Camelback Trail. Allegedly my son thought it was a short trail and not that hard. I missed the sign clearly stating otherwise on the way up. The trail starts off decent and even has handrails and steps for the first 1/3 of the trail. Gets you committed. Then there is a short lull of easier trail and then the serious rocks appear. For an old fat fellow that is out of shape it was challenging but very achievable. I made the complete round trip in about 2.5 hours. Younger more flexible and in shape can do it much quicker. Quite an enjoyable climb and awesome that it is very convenient to be to.

Overall, I loved the trail experience, but admittedly it was a very confusion, different that noted trek, so be ready! The Echo & Cholla trailhead lots were closed or full, we found street parking about a mile away from Cholla entrance- walking along the sidewalk near the golf course Once we hit the trailhead, the signage said Cholla 1.5miles into Echo Canyon 1.2miles to Bobby Rock loop .18miles...definitely not accurate We walked 2.3miles along Cholla, mostly slow, rock scrambling incline to the lookout point. At the top we saw Echo was just another way up&down the mountain, not necessarily a next trail The trail was very tiring, but I loved the challenge. A lot of the path areas were quite narrow, causing traffic jams with other hikers, a decent portion we got stuck waiting for people coming the other way. The top view was worth it, I definitely recommend this hike, but it was very different experience than noted. In total, we hiked 4.26miles Cholla out & back

I nearly died on this mountain. RESEARCH before you go. Both the Echo Canyon Trail and Cholla Trails are extremely difficult. Bring lots of water and good hiking shoes and know that you will be CLIMBING ROCKS AND BOULDERS. Also, if you're doing a sunset hike, bring a headlamp just in case. But GREAT VIEWS. As a cautionary tale - I decided to start at the Echo Canyon Trail around 5pm to try and see the sunset. It was way harder than I ever imagined with having to climb hand-over-hand on rails and scramble up rocks. By the time I reached the summit, the sun was setting and I had planned to continue onto the cholla trail for the descent. The trail is almost impossible to see on the way down if you didn't come up that way. I was pretty confused and lost and then I saw the little reflector things pasted to random boulders to guide the way. About 10-15 minutes into my descent, it was completely dark and I still had a mile to go. Here are my recommendations: DO NOT DO THIS AT NIGHT. It's really steep so make sure you watch your footing and TAKE IT SLOW. I slipped a few times and fell once and I got super lucky that I wasn't more injured so be careful! Don't have any pride while you're on this mountain - stop and get your bearings if you need to. Also, don't take the cholla trail at down at night ...... no one else did so I was hiking by myself for over 45 minutes. They all turned around and went back through the Echo Canyon Trail.

A must go when in the area! This hike is challenging but doable for those that are active. The view is amazing and so worth it.

So wow, supa, Gohgeoussss views ya! :) Waking up to these views is worth the challenge. Centrally located and easily accessible. Wake up early to find a parking on the Echo Canyon side!

Very difficult and challenging mountain I have done both the echo canyon and cholla trails and reccomend both! The echo canyon is a bit longer and more gratifying (just more time to enjoy the climb), while the cholla trail is steep and quick (in terms of length). Parking will be a pain no matter which way you slice it. If you want to go all the way to the top, be prepared for some climbing as the rocks get steep and the trail requires more effort. But the views are worth it. Highly reccomend making it for Sunrise

Phenomenal place for a day hike. Great views all around. This trailhead is popular and parking is limited. Plan your hike early and bring snacks and hydration. Also I would recommend good hiking shoes. It is a double black diamond trail so it's steep at some places. We really enjoyed it and was not very far from our hotel in North Scottsdale.

    20 min. Into the hike.

It can be much more difficult than anticipated. Bring water and don't go if it's too hot.

    Steep!

I suspect the monthly price is actually ridiculous, but that's up to you to decide because I'm not paying! Ok let's talk about the bad things first, and they're not bad enough to lower it from 5-stars: 1. The place gets busy. Too busy, in my humble introvert opinion. Not much you can do about that, but avoid peak hours. 2. Every other gym I've gone to uses tape to mark their routes, which means any route can use any climbing hold. At this gym, they color code them BY THE HOLDS, and then the route difficulty is by color also, which means there are lots of cool holds that you'll never get to touch simply because they're a different color from the difficulties you're doing. This does limit the variety somewhat. Ok, everything else is good. The facility itself has like, everything. I don't even want everything - I just want to boulder. But they've got a vast outdoor area to relax or play in, studios, weights, and some wild varieties of climbing gear. The bouldering area is very large, with all kinds of features that I don't even know the official names for, but you can climb over and under and around pretty much any type of scenario you could want. The mats are premium, and they have down-climb holds in a lot of areas which is great for people like me who try to avoid higher-impact falls. While I do appreciate the hole-in-the-wall grungy gyms where things might be a little more personal and less crowded, I honestly think you'll have trouble finding a better climbing gym than this, anywhere.

I came here a few days ago looking for vertical ascend gear out of caves. I was greeted by Jason and he was really helpful and knowledgeable. And of course, while I was looking for cave gear, I wandered around looking at all the fabulous gear they have, I was like a kid in a candy store. I could spend hours in here.
