I cannot express how grateful we are to have had Aubrey as our doula during my wife's pregnancy and birth experience! As a first-time moms, we were filled with excitement but also a fair amount of anxiety about what to expect. Being a person of color and in a same sex marriage the healthcare system hasn't always been kind to me unfortunately. We wanted someone there as an advocate for us. We interviewed 3 doulas, Aubrey being one of them and it truly was a no brainer. From our very first meeting, Aubrey made us feel completely at ease. Her warmth, kindness, and incredible knowledge truly set her apart. Not to mention she has a great personality, that's important because you can potentially spend a really long time with this person during the birth . Aubrey was always available to answer our questions, no matter how small they seemed. She provided us with invaluable resources and information that empowered us to make informed decisions about our birth plan, we actually felt prepared. My wife's birth was a 4 day failed induction and Aubrey guided us the whole way through. Explaining all the procedures before it happened. On the 4th day we had to make a decision about a C-section and I think we would have been even more of a nervous wreck without her knowledge. She was always there to give us unbiased information so we can choose what we felt was best for us. We felt like we had a trusted friend our side. All this to say Looma is amazing, we also did the encapsulated placenta through them and since opening up their studio I am currently taking my daughter who is 1.5 years old now to their Spanish lullabies class with Xóchitl who is amazing! I was looking for a doula and found Elizabeth and Looma Birth via online searches and, wow, from our first convo to a postpartum miracle moment, I cannot say enough amazing things about her. Originally I planned to use Elizabeth as my doula but unfortunately she had a planned vacation right around my due date. She quickly put me in touch with multiple doulas that she recommended and I was easily able to secure my incredible doula, Raylene. Once close to my due date, I engaged back with Elizabeth for placenta encapsulation. When Elizabeth came to my house to hand-deliver my placenta pills, I was a mess. I was a few days postpartum and I couldn't stop crying. Elizabeth was jam packed that day with appointments and mom-life and when I opened my front door and she saw me crying, she stopped her day in full force and came right in. She brought me to my bed, reassured me, calmed my anxiety and she asked/told my husband to make me food STAT! in a moment where my hormones had completely taken over my ability to rationalize, she reassured me that everything I was experiencing was normal and that it was going to get better. She even looked at my latch and gave me some advice on next steps. These few minutes she took with me helped empower me for weeks. She didn't have to come in that day - and she did. This shows how incredible she is and how seriously she takes this work She checked up on me via text for weeks after. At my one-month checkup with my doctor, she asked me where I had my placenta encapsulated and as soon as I mentioned Looma Birth, she immediately knew who I was talking about and had wonderful things to say. This is one of my favorite places in long beach! Not only is the space inviting and oh so darling... all the Doulas and practitioners are grounded, good intentioned, respectful and collaborative. I recently did the New Mama Circle at Looma Studio and it was the best decision I made as a freshly postpartum mama!! My little and I got to connect with other amazing new mamas and create such a beautiful community among us. This circle bonded all of us, and gave us the space to gather weekly for various self-care topics. I learned a lot about postpartum and baby care, and was also able to share my unique experiences too! We are still getting together often and talk constantly about baby updates and for recommendations! read more
