I sent an e-mail with photos and dimensions to Looney & Sons and a day later I got a great quote for reupholstering of two modern vinyl chairs and a very destroyed slipper chair. I had my own red leather (that I bought at the now closed Washington Design Center 5 years ago) and I also had several yards of men's suit fabric. They took the three chairs in and less than two months later they were done. Beautifully I might add. When I picked them up (I live in Bloomingdale, DC) it took over an hour to get there but I called ahead and they waited half an hour after closing for me to pick them up. Very nice and helpful to deal with. We had a small job which due to their workload was going to take 2 to 3 weeks to do. My husband is very handy and asked if they would sell us the materials and he would attempt the job himself. They readily agreed and were most helpful with instructions. We had an amazing experience with Looney & Sons from start to finish. They emailed back and forth with me for a while to ensure that they could give me an accurate quote, based on description of my antique chairs and photos. They allowed us to drop off our chairs in advance of the work so that we wouldn't have to move with them, which was extremely helpful to us. They told us it would be a while before they would be able to get to them, which was acceptable to us - about five weeks, however, I was super surprised to get the call a few weeks later that they had been finished and were ready for pick up - EARLY! They informed us that we could come by and check out the chairs before picking them up, which we did not take advantage of, and wasn't expected. Each time I called, their staff was so kind, helpful, and gracious. When we went to pick them up, we were so thrilled - they were so beautiful, restored and reupholstered - they looked beautiful. What else can anyone ask for from a local business who focuses on quality and service. I had a button break loose on a Italian leather sofa made for us by Theodore's in DC. Very fine grade piece. I contacted Looney & Sons through their website and sent a photo of the button and repair location. Ryan responded quickly and said to bring it by at my convenience. The website quotes various timeframes for services but I told him we were expecting a house full of guests in two weeks for a graduation party. He said they could take care of it and I made arrangements to drop it off two days later. I arrived mid day and brought the cushion and button into the office where several people told me that someone would be right with me. Ryan was on the phone but when he finished his call he introduced himself and took a look at the piece and the repair. He went, for his tools, didn't laugh too hard at my home made effort to re-tie the button, and quickly restrung tightened and tied off the button. I asked what I owed him and he simply said "nothing", just come back to us when you have a bigger project. That's customer service and I'm still technically not a customer. At least not a paying one! I have been going to Looney & Sons for a very long time and Jan has always been exceptional in the business and an exceptional person in general. It seems that as L&S has grown everyone employed there is exceptional, and produce the most detailed and beautiful results I've ever seen, consistently, they exceed all expectations. I've attached a few photos of a job L&S recently completed for me and while not all the pieces or the breathtaking draperies are pictured I hope what I've attached will demonstrate the commitment and painstaking attention to detail that they apply to everything they do. On this particular job I took them the filthiest pieces of furniture you could imagine and destroyed with the springs shot, mouse poop on the fabric just really bad - I could hardly believe what I saw when the pieces were returned, even the wood frames were cleaned and looked restored. I should also mention that the guys who deliver the furniture super professional and efficient paying particular attention to being careful with the furniture and with your home. I had an oddball request to repair my leather purse, knew it was a long-shot, but an email response through their "Contact Us" option asked me to come in for a quote. " They had some black leather remnants they could use and it shouldn't be a problem." However after I drive 45 minutes there, they said, without even looking at my purse, that they don't do that kind of work. Even when they consulted with the staff member who said they could do it, they politely told me again they don't do that kind of work. I don't mind being told no, but I prefer having a knowledgeable person answering the calls. Very bad first impression. read more

An antique table, a simple repair. Two very different approaches. One repairman (from Classic Furniture) said that it would take $275 and two weeks to repair. Ryan of Looney looked at the table, flipped it over and repaired it in 8 minutes for no charge! Ryan was honest and knowledgeable. What a terrible experience. I took two chairs in for upholstery and months later am being told that the fabric for one was never ordered. I went to the trouble of going out to their office, picking up a ton of books, choosing fabric and returning the books. I confirmed my fabric by phone and was told that I'd have to wait nearly a month for the fabric to come in. I patiently waited and was assured I'd hear from them when my chairs were ready. Now they are telling me that I never ordered the fabric, accuse me of failing to remember the details, and insist that it's my fault. They say they left me messages - which is not the case. Don't waste your time with this business. I asked if there was any solution - and they told me to pick up the chair - and take it elsewhere. I wish I had done that 3 months ago. read more

Just got my sofa and two wing chairs back from Looney & Sons after sending them for reupholstering. Turnaround time was reasonable, prices were great and the workmanship is incredible. They also fixed an 80 year old leather seat cushion to my grandfathers chair and you can't even tell where the seam split. Please note that any bad review is either about misunderstandings of what Looney & Sons could do or a bad experience with customer service. NONE about the finished product. I had a 24 year old sofa (Lee Industries) that I purchased from Woodward & Lothrop. Sofa was made very well and in great structural condition, however, the linen fabric had faded and didn't look good. The seats had also started to sag. Looney & Sons did a PHENOMENAL job on recovering my sofa and giving me new, firm cushions. They even made a couple of throw pillows out of the remaining fabric. I would recommend them to ANYONE, as they do a truly professional job, and I am a 'persnickety' customer on everything. read more

I can't say enough about this company. It is so refreshing to frequent a family owned business in today's franchise world. I talked to Jan, the big boss, on Wednesday. I asked if she was up for a challenging project and something she had never done before. She said she was willing to give it a try. I needed a piece of expensive leather cut to a very specific size and stitched perfectly accurate. I showed up Friday morning and Ryan, Jan's son, was ready to tackle the job. A few hours later I received exactly what I wanted. The price could have been extreme and I would have paid it but it was beyond reasonable. I am thankful for the work they did and the customer service they provided. I called 7 other similar companies and everyone all but hung up on me.
