After resanding to remove the botched stain job, but result is still uneven staining. Trim and corners messy looking.

I give The Back Door / Furniture Rescue / Front Porch Rescue one star, only because zero is not an option. I rarely write reviews and hope this will help someone avoid an expensive mistake for your furniture. In January 2021, I brought in a pair of mid-century nightstands with veneer that needed to be sanded and refinished. Joni said she often did these types of projects and it would not be a problem. Six months later (she said they were backed up from Covid projects), and after several emails and calls, I finally got a response that she would be getting to my nightstands. Another two months went before before I finally picked them up, and the work was terrible -- blotchy stain on the front and sides, sanding that damaged the trim, stain drips in the corners because the hinges weren't removed, and worst of all, the beautiful wood pattern on the front looking like a kid's spin-and-paint splatter "art" project. The result resembled something an amateur (someone like me) would complete after watching some YouTube videos. Joni said she would try to make it better after I told her how disappointed I was. However, on the way home, I reconsidered and called and emailed (again no response) to ask her not to do any further work. If this was the best that she could do, presenting it as a finished product, I didn't believe she was capable of fixing the damage. She later sent a long, rambling email, claiming she didn't get my messages until after she had redone the stain. Her email acknowledged that she "did not achieve the expected results on the doors of your nightstand." She said she removed the stain and "then resanded, conditioned, stained and polyed the doors before I left, when I was finally satisfied with the new finish." Sounds like what should have been done the first time, although the results were still unacceptable. I am attaching photos of the nightstands, 1) as originally dropped off at the store (before the legs were taken off), 2) the first attempt at refinishing the furniture, and 3) after the work was done again. And yes, Joni actually charged me for this subpar "finished" work! I had to have the nightstands completely refinished again. If you are looking for work to be done properly, I'd highly recommend a woodworker in Silver Spring. I'll be writing a separate review his work.

25 years ago I purchased a modern four-chair dining room set from SCAN, a Scandinavian furniture company. After many years of breakfast, coffee, and dinners, it was time for a rescue. Joni and Dave did a good job re-upholstering the chairs with genuine leather dyed blue to match the existing rug decor. My dining room has been given a new lease on life! (see photos in the main picture section)

When my dad died, I wanted to keep his old wing back chair but it desperately needed to be reupholstered. We were lucky enough to find Joni and the Back Dorr. She told us where to get the fabric and what to look for. She did a great job on the chair and it's like new! We can't wait to see the refinishing job on another piece of furniture we inherited from my aunt.

    Beautiful and unique desk!

I went to The Back Dorr in search of a desk and am happy to report that I found the perfect one! The owners Joni and Dave let me explore the warehouse and then helped point me in the right direction for the many desks they had that day. Joni took her time to listen to my needs and happily took many measurements so I could consider my options. I was not ready to purchase a desk that day and did not feel pressured at all! I happily returned a day later to purchase this desk and could not be happier! This shop is a true gem and I am happy that I was able to purchase a vintage piece from a local and family owned business for a reasonable price. I was also able to purchase a wood stain for the desk. I see that they offer many classes and painting services which would be a great option for someone looking to spruce up some pieces in their home.

Joni told me to skip the Brasso, and just use vinegar on my hardware for 72 hours. It worked like a charm!! Her advice was excellent!

Honestly after a lot of money spend and shoulder and neck pains I figured out that I needed a change. I thought maybe I just needed a better chair but that only helped a little bit. I started to become desperate and lazy, 'maybe I should just work on the floor' I thought to myself, with that I discovered that I had less back pains and started just working from the floor. I tried this out for 3 months and I am happy to report that my back pains have lessened. So what does R-Home furniture have to do with this discover? Well everything of course, I started researching online about a sturdy short table, but not just any table would do. I was looking for a table that if I really wanted to I could use as a dining table, just something of quality! After a ton of research and a lot of unsuccessful and risky online ads, I found R-Home furniture. I sent an inquiry online and asked George if he had a Chabudai (Japanese short table) and he replied yes! I was super excited and let him know the dimensions I wanted as well as the base. I was a bit unsure of the colors and bases but George walked me through it. Two days later I came in and took a look at all the available pieces and was in awe of the selection, the picture really doesn't do it justice. After some indecisiveness on my part George recommend me a few pieces and I took it home the same day. The table wouldn't fit in my car if the base was attached but George and Ricky helped my husband load the table in the car. If you are ever looking for a great deal and just a bit of customization you definitely don't have to go further than to R-Home.

When I checked out on my last trip, the young gentleman at the register kept yawning and barely acknowledged me -- it came across as lacking basic manners and customer service. To make matters worse, a picture frame I bought turned out to be damaged in the corner when I unwrapped it at home. When I brought it back to return, the sales associate spoke to me in an accusatory tone and insisted that I had damaged it. I explained that I discovered the damage only after opening the packaging, but she refused to accept the return. Thankfully, I asked to speak with the Manager, who checked my receipt, realized I had purchased it just the day before, and resolved the situation professionally. I appreciated the manager stepping in, but the interaction should never have escalated to that point. Glad it was ultimately corrected, but the sales associate definitely needs better training in communication, customer courtesy, and how to handle returns without blaming customers.

Anyway...while he was at his appt., I decided to walk around the shopping center (FairLakes Promenade). I had seen Home Sense before but never got around to checking it out. Finally, got to do that today. At first glance, it looked like it was a furniture store. Yes, they have lots of furniture but a deeper look showed there was so much more. There are towels, bedding, kitchen utensils, household cleaning items, rugs and decorative items. My intention was just to look not buy. However, when I saw the food items, I realized that I needed a shopping cart. Things that caught my eye...imported pasta, pasta sauces, spices, sweets and a cleaning formulation for shower doors and mirrors. Truthfully, there were other items that attracted me but I exercised will power. For example, I saw a lovely vase but my sensible side said "we don't need another vase." There was artwork but sensible side said "We have enough of that and only so much wall space". When I went to check out, the cashier was friendly. I found out, when he tried to get me to sign up for a credit card, that they are part of a conglomerate that includes TJ Maxx. No, we don't need another credit card! My haul ended up costing $35 plus change. Once we were home, I showed my husband my haul. He asked what it cost and was pleasantly surprised. Aw, gee! I'm so proud of myself :D So, no regrets for paying Home Sense a visit!
