I love Loop! For me what makes Loop such a great place to shop are the people who work there. They are are friendly, patient and knowledgeable. I visited there yesterday (4/24/16) with patterns in hand. One of my intended projects is Drea's Shawl, a pattern by Craig Rosenfeld, one of the owners of Loop. I wanted to do the shawl in the same colors Craig had originally done the shawl in but unfortunately those colors had been discontinued. Craig was so nice in helping me select colors for the shawl that were fairly close to the original colors. With help and patience from a women working there (maybe Laura the other owner) I found yarn for the rest of my projects. Loop is a small store but they do carry a nice selection of exceptional yarns. It's hard for me to control myself in how much I purchase. Loop has their own patterns, some which are free and others that are fairly priced. After each time I leave Loop, I find myself wishing the store were closer to where I live. I hope Loop continues to thrive for my years to come. read more

Made a stop to Loop as I was visiting Philly for a few days. The store itself is gorgeous. It really looks like a lovely photo. While it is lovely, it does feel a little sterile. I don't quite get the cozy vibe from the store. The selection of yarns is fantastic. They carry a wide variety of hand dyed yarns. The accessories element was lacking a bit. I like to find unique things at a LYS...things that can't be found at JoAnns. Worth a stop if you are looking for some nice yarn! read more

I love this knitting shop. I've taken a few classes and they are always great and they always have lots of beautiful yarns and notions. I am a fairly new knitter and I recently made lots of mistakes in a shawl and couldn't figure out how to fix it. I took a private knitting lesson this afternoon with Kathy and she was so helpful and great at helping me get back on track completely. I could not have done it without her help. The fee for private lessons is very reasonable. I would very highly recommend this shop to any knitter! read more

I made a New Year's Resolution to pick up a new skill, and I chose knitting after some debate with myself about whether or not I should have specified that the new skill would involve food in some way. I had been here once a couple of years ago to take a reasonably priced one hour private lesson with a friend ($25) to learn the basic knit, purl, and cast-on techniques. Needless to say, it didn't take... and so I came back for the first series of classes of Knit 1. Really enjoyed it. A bit pricey ($90) but it included the needles, yarn and a teacher with a good amount of patience and a staggering amount of optimism. I would say that in general, I really really enjoy the people here. Craig, the owner, is really funny which goes a long way for us new knitters where hours of work can amount to but an inch of a pattern. He's also very personable and a clear instructor. Erica, who is there every time I'm there on the weekend just knows SO much and is such a good resource. And I even stopped in on a random Tuesday for some extra help and the woman working there had no problem helping me! Because it is a small and modern store, the place may be what you pictured in your mind as to where you'd learn to knit (i.e grandma's house with a thousand tchotchkes, throw blankets on plastic couches and cat hair everywhere), but the warmth in nestled in the people who work here. They have knit-alongs on Sunday afternoons where there is a wide range of ages and experience levels sitting at the table, knitting, talking about patterns in coded language I have yet to understand, and laughing about things that don't have anything to do with knitting. While the yarn here may not be as economical as your chain craft store, I would say they are superior in quality and well worth the purchase. I just completed Knit 2 and I signed up for Knit 3 and I think this is the beginning of a terrifyingly sexy hobby. And no Mom, I'm not pregnant and nesting. I'm just really putting off grad school. Expect non-baby socks for Christmas. read more

The staff was very rude. As if it is a privilege to shop there. They were snotty. The store is cute, spacious and there seems to be lots of information. So if you want to be mistreated and disrespected in a cute place with lots of product. Go for it. Very, very disappointing. Both loop and spool are just rude stores. Really too bad. read more

I would love nothing more than to go into Loop with $500 and walk out with yarn galore! I am what I would consider to be an intermediate-level knitter and Loop makes me want to learn all there is to know about knitting just so I can play with all of the different kinds of yarn that they sell. Also, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Once, I couldn't find a pair of size 3.5 needles and the woman went into the back of the store just to find them for me. They also normally have two big bargain bins of yarn in the back if you love stuff on sale as much as I do. read more

After 11 years of knitting, I still love Loop. I'm always impressed by the new yarns Craig and Laura bring in and I appreciate their dedication to choosing local and independent fiber artists as well as more commercially available products. A lovely store - nice atmosphere, friendly staff, beautiful yarn, sleek and modern layout. I don't think it has as wide a selection as Rosie's, but still plenty to ooh and ahh over. The sock yarn is especially tempting. Most of the yarns are a bit pricey and high-end, though. If you want to treat yourself to something fancy and luxurious, Loop can definitely accomodate that desire. read more

I love Loop! I just finished up an intro knitting class with Kathy H. and couldn't be more pleased. I feel confident in my burgeoning knitting skills thanks to her. She was incredibly patient and nice about explaining things multiple times without sounding condescending. The other staff I have encountered have been super friendly, too, so I'll feel okay about going in if I run into a problem with any future projects. I have already signed up for another class and will probably take several more. The store itself is bright and open, modern yet still homey, a great space for the new generation of urban knitters. As I am still a novice, I'm pretty easily impressed with any place that has a selection that doesn't include Red Heart, but the colors and variety provide a lovely feast for the eyes, enough to make me part with a lot of cash. They have a lot of specialized classes, which is great, but I would like to see a general knitting class as the next step after the intro. Also, perfect location! Accessible to the fashionable Rittenhouse set and the lower-budget South Graduate Hospital Crowd like myself. read more

I'm a beginning knitter, and I feel like I hit the jackpot finding Loop in my neighborhood. I took the Beginning Knitting class with Elizabeth, and was really surprised at how confident I was able to become in the 4 sessions (2 hours each, Tuesday evenings). I made a scarf and a hat, and learned some solid technique. The teacher was exceedingly patient and helpful. The cost was just $96 which include 3 different types of beautiful bamboo needles as well as all the yarn for the projects. I thought it was a great value. I have since returned for project help, and found the staff very willing to spend time with a beginner. Looking forward to lots of projects with all the beautiful yarn here! read more

I stopped here on a trip to Philly on the recommendation of a friend. It was a nice shop. My favorite thing about it was the display of finished products, scarves, blankets, sweaters, etc., designed to get you to buy the yarn and patterns. Every yarn shop has them but this shop's displays were eye catching and made me want to buy yarn to make every single thing out in the store. The employees were friendly and offered help but were not annoying since I really was just wandering around looking for yarn I had to have to add to the stash, but not for anything specific. I picked up two skeins of madtosh chunky and they offered to wind it and actually sounded like it wouldn't be the biggest PITA ever, like they sound at other places. Since I have my own ball winder, I declined, but left pretty happy. I'm debating stopping in again before I leave town just to see if I missed anything. read more

I really liked this shop! The ambiance is really modern with fantastic staff. The people in a business make such a difference and Loop has some of the best I've ever experienced! It was so refreshing to see a young man gushing over the skeins and recommending patterns. He had a really cool eye and excellent ideas. I also liked their displays and samples. They really showcased the yarns. I'm also super glad I signed up for their e-mail list and FB page as I am constantly getting pattern ideas and notices of new classes. My only negative about this sop is the quantity of yarn. I wish their selection was a bit bigger. The shop feels a little empty and could use a bit more variety. But, again, it's the people they have there that make this a five star in my book! read more

I went into this place yesterday afternoon because i was searching for supplies to start needle felting. Loop had everything i needed and i felt totally chilled out in the space. Although i'm not super into knitting i noticed they had a lot of neat yarns(very tempting..). the staff was friendly and seemed laid back. i was excited that they gave me a cute reusable bag when i made my purchase. i'm deff going back there to get some more colors of wool! read more

Just took a beginning knitting class at Loop and it was great! The teacher, Kathy, was so helpful, patient, and experienced. Personally, I think it was a great value. For under $100, you got 8 hours of class time and all of your materials (several spools of yarn, different kinds of needles, and anything else you needed to make your first hat and neck warmer!). I even had to miss a class and Kathy was so accommodating and went out of her way to teach me what I missed. This was a great experience and I highly recommend Loop's classes. I signed up for a beginners knitting class with my friend and I could not be happier to have signed up. The atmosphere is welcoming for beginners and I imagine they have a lot to offer the more advanced. The yarn displays and the available pattern books were neatly and artistically displayed making the environment feel polished and cozy at the same time. The teacher was welcoming, patient, and knowledgeable. She even had recommendations for textile arts places of interest in the region. The class is two hours and was very relaxing. One of the women in the class was taking the class a second time with her daughter and had only glowing things to say as well. Hopefully, the next three classes go just as well. read more

Plus they keep track of your purchases and then you get either something discounted or free (I forget which it is), which is better than Rosie's frequent buyer plan. My very, very favorite yarn store. Beautifully laid out with great lighting and an incredible selection of seasonal yarn, needles and hooks, books, and ideas. Also, there's always a great selection of discounted yarns at the back of the store. The people who work at Loop are calm and friendly, and very well versed in knitting and crocheting (and often wearing something they made themselves!). Whenever I have a question about a project or a concern about a project that's gone wrong, they've had excellent suggestions, even helping me find an enormous hook for crocheting a rag rug out of old sheets. I've been here three times so far, and the experience has been positive. The selection is good, and the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. I'm a beginning knitter, so I have a lot of questions, and the staff is willing to take time out to answer them. The store is well organized and it's easy to find what you're looking for, though you can always ask. Yes, it's expensive, but good yarn is expensive. Parking is a bit of a problem, but you can usually find a space within a few blocks. Bring quarters, though, since many spaces are metered. read more

Absolutely my favorite yarn store! The staff is friendly and so helpful. The set up of the store makes you want to buy everything! Very organized, which makes shopping so much easier when you are looking for a particular weight or color yarn. And the yarn they carry are just gorgeous. Granted, the price of the yarn can be pricey, but it just feels so wonderful you don't care. And again, the staff here are awesome. They have always been so helpful and seem to love working there. I took a beginner's knitting program of classes here earlier this year. The content of the class and the equipment provided were great. However, the instructor was very moody during the classes, going from lighthearted to prickly, rude and impatient. She belitted a woman for taking extra time in learning to cast on, and scolded another woman for knitting extra rows in her sample swatch. Let's just say there was a lot of eye rolling going on in these classes. Loop offers many classes I would like to take but won't, simply because this woman is teaching them. Loop has a wonderful collection of yarns and the sales staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I will continue to shop here. I only wish they would hire a new instructor! read more

Loop had to order yarn for my project since they didn't have enough in stock. They told the yarn would be there in less than one week. When I called a week later, the told me it would be in by the end of the week. When I called the following week, they were still waiting for it, and said it would be in by the end of the week. Advice to Loop: underpromise and over perform. Find out where my yarn is and call to keep me updated. read more

Three times is the limit for me. I've visited this store three times and been made to feel like I was "bothering" the clerk each time-and I'm sure one was the owner! I gave one star because the store looks pretty. If you want to be treated like your business is appreciated, try one of the other Center City yarn stores. The arrogance of the Loop team isn't worth it. I live close to Loop, but am happy to take a walk to another area just to avoid their rudeness. From the reviews, I see that I'm not alone. read more
