I have lived in Louisville for almost 12 years, tell me why I just learned about Lori's THIS YEAR. I needed Bacalao (salted cod) for a recipe I was making and I knew Kroger and Whole Foods wouldnt have it. I was ready to give up when I searched online and saw Lori's sold it! What luck! If I had any complaint it would be that the shop is too small and too "boutique" but it is St Matthews so I really wasn't too surprised. The folks working were incredibly nice and personable. I don't know where to start! First, I called the day before to check on the availability of what I wanted and if they were open, hours, etc. The human who answered the phone was very helpful and gave me tips on what I was buying. Second, when I arrived a lady came in seconds behind me but seemed very nervous about being out in the world with people. I motioned for her to go ahead of me (silently crossing my fingers that she wouldn't buy all of what I had come here for) but the lady at the counter helping people didn't notice that and tried to help me first. I appreciate not letting people cut the line BUT in these troubled times if we can make it less hellish on others, shouldn't we? Third, the lady at the counter (I'm 100% sure was the lady from the phone) gave me advice on the preparation of what I was buying, gave me what I needed to get it home safe and alive. She also assured me I was buying ENOUGH for what I was making. I was afraid it was not but we ended up with what we needed. I am thankful for that. I'm not into seafood (I'm allergic to so much) but I wanted to make a special meal for someone in my family, the people here made that happen. I cannot speak for their selection (it looked like they had a nice variety of seafood) but they had fresh seafood, canned soup options you cannot find at the regular market, and sauces that are commonly used in the prep and eating of the ocean's bounty. Love this place. It's quaint in size. You can ask the workers at the counter questions about the selection, which you can't do at a grocery chain. Fish is always fresh. Pricier than a chain but that's expected for better quality meat. There's also a freezer section with prepared options. I like the salmon burgers, salmon meatballs, and stuffed clams. Friendly, helpful and prompt service, quality fish and overall good selection. However, I would love to see them stop packaging their crab cakes in individual single-use plastic containers. Especially for a place whose business is seafood, using paper wrap versus plastic wherever possible should be the priority for sustaining the health of our oceans. read more

Highly recommend! Louisville has yet to embrace the poke bowl trend so we decided to make our own at home. Came to Highland Fish Market for fresh ahi tuna and was not disappointed! Freshest piece of fish we had ever seen and lady at counter was nice enough to pack our filet on ice for our ride home across town. Support local! We will definitely return. read more

Kudos for having dry-packed sea scallops! The only source I know of in Louisville. And, as a past resident of Baltimore, I can attest that their crab cakes are the most authentic of any in Louisville. Chesapeake Bay oysters are on my want list for my next visit. Nice seafood shop. read more

If you've read any of my previous reviews, you'll know I'm a big seafood fan. Growing up in Florida, I can't seem to get enough. Which is why I'm so happy the locally owned Highland Fish Market exists here in Louisville! This small shop has a great looking selection of fresh fish, oysters and even live lobsters! We came in looking for lobster tail and crab legs, and went with their frozen two 4 oz. tails for $19.99 ($17.99 deal online), and snow crab legs for $11.99/lb. After the four crab leg clusters and two lobster tails we purchased, our total came to $36.05 after tax. I'll take it! In store, you'll also find a great frozen selection as well, with crawfish tails, oysters, mussels, etc. So much of which our local grocers don't offer. They even have specialty olive oils, sides and dips you must check out! Perfect stop if you're hosting a gathering, as many things are already prepared and ready to go. Highland Fish Market also offers online deals on a ton of different seafood selections, from cuts of fish, to crab legs, to fried oysters, and SO MUCH more. Always check their online deals before heading in! You can even order in advance online and select your date for pickup in-store. The staff definitely knows their stuff when it comes to the products they offer. I've always had a friendly and positive experience with the folks who own and operate Highland Fish Market. I'd be a more frequent customer if the prices weren't out of my budget, but I suppose it's the price we pay in a landlocked city :) Looking forward to cooking up our lobster and crab legs!!! read more

I stopped by this market for some clams to make clam chowder. While they only carried one variety - littleneck - the clam chowder turned out incredibly and the service was excellent. I also felt like the price was fair for the market at $8.99/pound. I would definitely recommend for high quality and specialty seafood in Louisville. read more

Let me start off by saying I'm from the East Coast and I relocated to Louisville a little over a year ago. Somebody recommend to me Highland seafood market in Chenoweth Square shopping center to me and I stopped by to see what they offer . I select two portions of the steelhead trout which looked amazing and fresh . But we all know looks can be deceiving. However, this was absolutely one of the best fish I have ever had. What made it so amazing? FRESH FRESH FRESH ! The recipe I used was simple honey and Cajun seasoning. I covered the steelhead trout with the honey Cajun seasoning and broiled it. AMAZING . Without a doubt this is the freshest seafood market in Louisville. I have tried a majority of the seafood markets in Louisville and Lexington and I will not vary from Highland seafood market.
