The drive to SantaFe airport is 1 hour one way and then the driver needs to come back to Los Alamos, which is their home base, so the cost was $160 plus a $30 fee because I was being picked up at 5am. This rate is very comparable for the same drive from the Jersey Shore to Newark airport. This stop has a large parking lot for commuters, and bike lockers for those who routinely would bike to and/or from the stop. It's right in the heart of the downtown area of Santa Fe, and there are plenty of places to eat, drink, and shop nearby while you wait. For me, it was an excellent junction point for my trip. Served it's purpose, this public transit is GREAT, and the ABQ/Santa Fe area is lucky to have it.

On the evening of July 25, I received an email from the limo owner Deanna Ballard stating that they could not provide the service at the quoted price. She said the trip cost is now $1,500! With only a couple of days notice, I was unable to hire anyone and ended up driving them to Santa Fe. It was 630 miles roundtrip. When I asked her about the substantial difference the quote and the actual price, Deanna stated that her website gave an inaccurate quote. I asked why they didn't reach out in the beginning of June, so we could make other arrangements, she had no answer. I called her back and asked about the fare, and she said it will still be $1,500 and that she had a client in a similar emergency situation and also charged them $1500 for their fare. This one was a great base to see destinations such as Santa Fe and Los Alamos. There were few amenities available and we weren't interested in them. While, we didn't have a picnic table (a few sites did) or trees, the sites are huge and so easy to get in and out. We had a pull through site that was around 60 ft. and had plenty of space from the neighbor's rigs. And they move a large amount of RVs in and out, we were amazed how many would go through. If you are looking at a nice place to go see the sights, Roadrunner is a great park to chose. The gentleman that helped us check in and took us to our site was very nice and helpful. He gave us the basics on the area if we were looking for restaurants or entertainment. While the place doesn't have the cushy spots others have, it is a great place to stay close to tourist spots in the area.

Right? So, I haven't been to enough New Mexico fishing lakes to provide an honest assessment. Having that written, it's a nice little lake. Not horrendously far from us city folk in Albuquerque. It has camping spots and is just as accommodating for day use folk as it is for campers. Rather small though, and for the curious, no motorized craft allowed. Just canoes and little blow up guys out there. We went on Father's Day, arrived at about 0730 and we were still hard pressed to lay claim to a good spot. However, by the time we rolled at noon, insane infestation of humans crawling all over, under, and beside one another for a place to cast their line. In fact, as we drove out the forest rangers had the entrance blocked off. It was 100% full! What did that do for the fish catching odds? It ruined it! Or, maybe I'm just a lousy fisherman, IDK. In any case, it wasn't the best day to land that big one. But you know what they say, a bad day of fishing beats a good day at work every time! Give 'em a go, I think you be pleased. Cheers!

Which is why the Atomic City Transit is such a nice bus line. While visiting Bandalier National Monument and enjoying lunch in the picnic area, I noticed these colorful buses that appeared regularly in the parking lot. They were the Atomic City Transit buses, which operate from 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday - Friday except for holidays. It is important to know that during the summer months, you cannot drive into the park between 9 and 3. The reason for the shuttle is that a fire and subsequent flooding in the area made this necessary. It's only a 20 minute ride on theshuttle bus. The free shuttle runs from White Rock Visitor Center, about 8 miles from the park entrance. It runs every 20-30 minutes. If you're hiking a distance, you can drive into the park before 9 am and park at the lot by the visitor center. There is a $12 fee. When I tiptoed down to feel the water in Frijoles Creek, (freezing!) I stopped to admire a bus that was on a scheduled break. The Los Alamos buses are clean and neat. They do not look like any of the hard core buses you see in large urban areas. Even better, ACT actually brings you to the local Airport at your request! According to the ACT website, "ACT Route 2 serves the airport (LAM) upon request. Riders should advise the Route 2 driver of airport terminal building destination when boarding the bus. Riders should call 661-RIDE (7433) to request a Route 2 pick-up at the airport terminal building." Imagine that! Calling your city bus to come get you at the airport or drop you off at your request! Even better--ACT has an ACTracker which links to the bus line's real time route information site. Click on this link from any computer or mobile device for route maps and estimated arrival times.
