I emailed them on Saturday asking for a key to be recreated. The responded saying I could come in on Monday at 2pm. I responded in the affirmative. Now that I'm there for my appointment the man at the desk sees me at the door, hears me knocking and will not come to the door. Instead he shook his head at me. Terrible customer service. read more

I get that you don't want to cut vehicle keys that are bought off the internet due to 'liability' concerns. However, being rude about it isn't acceptable. I'll take my business somewhere else. BTW, your cost for a new vehicle key is equal to or greater than a dealership. I would gladly take the 'liability' myself and chance losing $30 versus paying 10 times that. I'll even sign a form stating that. As it seems this is a recurring point of contention you should really just put it on your website. read more

They have been very helpful in working with me to get the lost safe combination for my safe! Very prompt with getting back to me with any of my questions and issues we have had. I made the mistake of giving them the wrong letter apart of my serial number. Which we are currently having fixed so i can get the correct combination. Tried working with another lock shop locally in town but was not very good follow up on their behalf. As part of our move, today's project was to pull the tires on the utility trailer that we haven't used in eight years, get them reinflated, reinstall them, and then pull the trailer over to the house. Everything went well until it came time to remove the lock from the hitch... The key wasn't on the trailer key ring. So I checked my key ring. Then the keys in the lock box... After checking literally every key in the house I concluded that the key was gone. So I did something unexpected. I called a locksmith. Los Alamos Lock and Key. I call the by name as a warning to the next ten generations that... Anyways. I call them. I explain the situation. The kid at on the phone tells me "You'll have to bring it down to the shop and we'll open it for you." Huh? So I explain again. It's not possible to move it because the hitch is locked closed. I need them to come out and drill out the lock so I can move it. " No. You'll have to bring it here so we can open it." OK, let me try again... It's a 1500 lb. Utility trailer. It's immobile because the hitch is locked closed, and I can't connect it to a vehicle to move it. I want to pay you to come here and open it. "Sorry, we can't open it unless you bring it to the shop." OK then... Have a nice day, I'll call a real locksmith. read more

Had the same experience with trying to get a car key cut. I had bought the 2 keys online for about $30. Person answering my call say I would have to buy it from them for $200 per key. Probably higher than the dealer. These folks are good at cutting keys, but I'll have to go elsewhere. read more

Rude and hard to deal with. Go anywhere but here. You won't ruin your day. I now remember why I was upset with this place. I had several keys made for old doors, which didn't work. I was told that it was my fault because they were so worn. I left the keys behind after telling the person behind the counter where he could put them. I then went to Ralph's in Espanola and got keys made that worked. read more

Honestly the guy acted like a twat towards me. Really rude and didn't act like he cared that he had a job. I just wanted Keys made and he wanted a 10 by 10 step just to do it. I generally operate under the principal of "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" and therefore don't leave negative reviews, believing that karma will take care of things. However, it is very rare that I have been treated with as much rudeness and inefficiency as at LA Lock and Key. I asked for a ballpark estimate on installing an existing lockset into a door that is identical to the old one. Step One--I was told no estimate unless they can first see the lockset. I brought the lockset in to the shop where the guy was curt, rude, argumentative and utterly unhelpful. Step Two--He took down my contact info so he could email me later to set up a time to come look at the door before he could even ballpark figure it. I'm not new to home construction and maintenance; lock installation ain't brain surgery. I was going to treat myself to a non-DIY job, but after dealing with this company, I'm better off doing it myself. That way, as both customer and service provider, I can at least be assured of a good job with excellent, polite service. We never made it to Step Three of an actual in-person estimate because I pulled the job. I have to assume that with the multi-step complexity involved in getting a simple estimate, the job itself would have come in at some insanely high price. In any other town with a bit more competition, the two yahoos running this business would be shuttered within a year. That is what happens with karma--you get back from the universe what you put out into it. read more

Tried to get this business to cut a car key for me. I had bought a couple of blanks, and the person who answered the phone said that they wouldn't use any blanks but their own. I then asked them the price they charged, and they quoted me a minimum of $83! When I started to suggest that I could do this in Santa Fe, the guy HUNG UP ON ME in mid-sentence! I took the blank to Metzger's in White Rock (the blank cost me all of $4), and they cut it for FREE!. It worked flawlessly. Do your local business at Metzger's in White Rock. read more

Use to be a nice little shop. Changed owners and now it is a ridiculously expensive and rude shop; Guy simply tells you to take it to the dealer if it is the least bit complicated. Years ago they put all locks on for a reasonable price. Today I paid $35 for 3 keys. I should have just had it copied at Metzgers. New owner was rude and incompetent. read more

I had purchased replacement keys for my Honda Accord and needed them cut. I found this place by searching online. So I drove to their shop and asked them if they could cut the key. The man working there told me that he could cut the key only if I had purchased the keys from him. He said that I would have to go into Santa Fe if I wanted the keys, I had in my hand, cut. So I asked him if he had the keys I needed in stock and how much. He told me $180 per key. I purchased my keys online for less than $50 for both, not each! He said "good for you" so I told him he lost a customer and his policy sucks. The place was empty and he was not busy. I would have paid him double his usual fee for cutting keys since he only charges less than $5 to cut a key. So like I said, he lost a potential customer and could have also done a good deed. So looks like I am on my way to Santa Fe to pay someone, probably $5 plus the cost to drive there, to cut my keys. I definitely do not recommend! read more
