Right Start preschool is truly a special place where the kids get all the love and attention that they deserve. It is run by teachers Manijeh and Hassan and they are careful to employ other teachers who are also warm, kind and loving. They have an excellent teacher to student ratio, my daughter loved all her teachers and Manijeh holds a very special place in her heart. It is one of the rare preschools where your child will happily wave goodbye to you as they have an excellent process to get little kids comfortable when they first join - parents visit with the child the first few times. The school is very clean, well organized and they have lots of toys and activities including circle time, arts and crafts, yoga, music class, learning worksheets, Spanish and lots more. Kids also learn good social and emotional skills and are encouraged to be helpful and loving to the other kids. Kids spend a lot of time outdoors which is great for their development. My daughter developed close friendships and she absolutely loved going to school. She always begged me to let her stay for longer hours and would get upset when she was sick and couldn't go to school. One day when I went to pick her up early, she kept crying as she wanted to stay longer ! Also Manijeh has a lot of training and experience with little kids, so even when my daughter started resisting nap-time at home, Manijeh was able to get her to nap happily at school ! There is a good parent community and you can engage with other parents as much or as little as your time permits. You get photos and videos of the kids and Manijeh is always willing to answer any questions you may have. We miss Right Start preschool as my daughter graduated and is now in Kindergarten but are so grateful for the special memories and love to go back and visit often ! read more

This is an excellent preschool! Manijeh, who runs the school, is an expert at early childhood education. My son was 2 years when he started. This being his first time being in school, he came out of his shell very quickly and became independent within a month or so. The community she has built is very close-knit and the quality of teachers that she hires is exceptional. Personal attention towards every student is an area where Right Start shines. Students are taught values such as empathy, assist with learning, mentorship, emotional support and general social skills. I saw this in action when my son started. Not only the teachers, but students also helped with his transition. Being a first time parent, I have personally learnt a lot from Manijeh about how to teach kids and help them develop in all aspects. We are still in touch and Manijeh gives excellent inputs about toddler development. We moved a little farther from the school and the daily commute is a lot for us to continue here. Had we been closer, we would definitely continue with Right Start. To this day, Teacher Manijeh is his favorite teacher and mine too! Highly recommend! read more

Right Start Preschool is a family preschool having a clean and safe environment. There are one indoor classroom and one outdoor classroom in the back yard. In sunny days, children always play at the backyard with sand&ball pit, seesaw, kitchen playsets, slides and tricycles. They also do gardening and water playing. My child likes this outdoor play environment because he likes jumping, running and riding. Teachers are nice and patient. The student teacher ratio is very low. There are always 3 teachers here taking care of 10-12 children. Teachers like to praise and show appreciation to children if the children make a good choice in their behaviors. My child has a big improvement in his social skills. It's a pleasant and meaningful experience for our family to bond with Right Start Preschool. We'd like to recommend! read more

We love Right Start Preschool! Our daughter has been going to this school since she was 2 years old and she is now 4.5 years old. It is hands down one of the best decisions we've ever made for her. Manijeh is caring, kind and an expert on early childhood development. She helps each child learn how to be a kind and considerate member of the school community while teaching them life skills and educational skills to prepare them for kindergarten. She also is very careful when selecting other helpers in the school and we've loved everyone she has brought onto the team. We also love Manijeh's husband and co-teacher Hassan who has gone out of his way to support and encourage our daughter's interests by finding new and exciting supplies and resources for her when she showed interest in something. Each child gets so much individualized attention, it's amazing! We never question our daughter's comfort or safety there. Our daughter is transitioning to TK in the fall and while we are going to dearly miss our right start preschool family we are confident the transition will be easy for her because of the strong social/emotional and educational foundation Manijeh and her team have helped her develop. read more

This was the best first school experience we could have ever imagined. Right Start Preschool is the first school my son attended, starting at age 2.5. He had never been out of our care and away from home, so we were very critical of our school selection. We happened to find Right Start on a map when we moved from Palo Alto to Sunnyvale and decided to contact the school and take a tour. We were quickly drawn to the family-run style and over time, we felt like the teachers and the kids were part of our extended family. Manijeh and Hassan have an incredible loving nature and only see the beauty and sweetness in children. This love and care brings out the best in these kids. My son, who had never really been attached to anyone except for us, instantly felt close to Manijeh and teacher Mae. While any new experience takes some adjusting, once he got comfortable, he thrived and absolutely loved going to school every day. He made dear friends, and the families there became our friends as well. Right Start Preschool is all about providing the children with unconditional love and the tools to be independent and social. Our little family had to relocate for a new job, and we were so heartbroken to leave this school. I cried after dropping our son the first day, and I cried on the way home on his last day, knowing that we were leaving an extremely special place of care. I can't recommend this school enough. It lived up to its name in being the right start for our family and son. This was the only preschool which didn't have a wait list and was willing to accept 2+ year (or 18+ month) old kids almost immediately. The application process took about a week ($200 application fee) including a home visit by the teacher. This preschool is very clean. One of the main focus here is to keep the indoor space and the backyard super tidy. It didn't work for my 2 year and 3 month old daughter. A smoother transition period would have probably helped in my opinion. Rules about returning the deposit $ are a bit unclear. We were initially told that one year minimum enrollment was necessary to not lose the deposit, however the contract read that enrollment till June was sufficient to not lose the deposit money. Even though during signing of the contract, we were told several times that the information in the contract was correct, after the contract was signed, they told us again that one full years enrollment was required and that the contract needed to be revised. This felt a bit weird. Anyhow, none of this applied to us since things didn't work out. They were nice enough to return our 2 week deposit after a total of 10 working days (~2 hours each day) (note: almost all currently enrolled children do only half days from 9 am to 1 pm). Overall, in my opinion as a parent, it is first important to become friends with and earn the trust of a 2 year old before imposing rules on "thoroughly washing hands" and "keeping the place clean" - not saying these are not important, but first things first. read more

I was initially drawn to this school because it was one of the only exclusively outdoor preschools in the area during the pandemic and finding a safe place was my top priority. I then became impressed with the introduction and transitional phase: Manijeh first met with my son 1:1 at the preschool so that they could become acquainted with each other and he could explore the preschool without the other children present. This was an opportunity to see if the school was a good fit. Afterwards, my son was invited to come with me during the school hours to play with and meet with the other children prior to my son starting school there. His transition to preschool was seamless. Several months after my son was attending preschool there and thriving, he became more comfortable testing boundaries and some of his challenging behaviors (i.e. pushing other children) that he had been exhibiting at home and at parks started popping up in school. I was terrified that he would be kicked out of the school for such unacceptable behaviors. Instead, Manijeh and Hassan would send him home early if he behaved this way and worked with me and my husband to try to best support my son. Manijeh shared an invaluable resource with me, as well as the other parents- Santa Clara County Office of Education Inclusion Warmline. It was through the Warmline that I was first introduced to the idea that my son was seeking proprioceptive input and received tangible advice and tools. To make a long story short, Manijeh also encouraged me to seek assessment for my son through the school district. Although he has no diagnosis at this time, his ADHD -like behaviors and challenges have made him eligible for preschool through the school district with an IEP. My son would still be attending Right Start if he didn't need the additional support through the school district that a small, home-based school simply cannot provide. We truly miss our Right Start family and will continue to keep in touch and visit as we are able. I highly recommend this preschool. read more

Teacher Manijeh, Hassan and Snigdha took loving care of my child. Each teacher has their own unique qualities. The best thing is that I never had to worry if my child was safe or not. In today's world, it is difficult to trust people when you have to leave your child with them. Our son has been going to a home based preschool "Right Starts" in Sunnyvale for almost a year now. We had a wonderful time here. The teacher is extremely knowledgable in child psychology and early childhood development. She is a mentor to many preschool founders. She is a warm, caring and loving teacher. The preschool is very clean and hygienic. This is my child's first preschool experience and he has thrived here. He loves his teachers and wants to go to school everyday. I have two children attending Right Start right now. My older child started at age 3, and my younger one at age 2 1/2. We've been there a year and a half now, and I couldn't be happier with our choice. Here are the top things I can think of that have made us and our kids so happy: Carefully designed play-based instruction --- When I was looking for a preschool, this was my #1 criteria. My kids have so much fun - never once have they complained about a lesson or said anything was boring. They are truly engaged, and the learning is self-evident. It is so exciting to see the skills they are learning at preschool, play out at home. Without missing "academics" --- I am really not a fan of academics for little kids. There's plenty of time to learn to read. Still, we all know that kindergarten is "rigorous" now, so I'm over here rolling my eyes and simultaneously inventorying all the things my older child probably needs to be "ready" for kindergarten next fall. I think Right Start spends a little bit of time on worksheet-style activities, but my kids don't talk about it. Nevertheless, there's strong evidence of developing literacy and numeracy. If there's anything they are missing for kinder, it won't be that. Close attachments and relationships prioritized --- Manijeh and Hassan are there every single day, and that consistency has been so precious. My daughters absolutely love them, and every interaction I've seen has shown it to be mutual. They strike that perfect balance of being loving, gentle, and kind, while still setting the kind of appropriate boundaries that children need to thrive. They also focus on facilitating friendships between the children and providing opportunities for the families to connect. Communication is great! --- Manijeh sends out a weekly email telling us about the lessons from the previous week. She also reminds us about upcoming holidays, class parties, and other events with an appropriate amount of notice. There is also a Telegram group so I get to see pictures and videos sometimes of what the kids are doing. To me the amount feels just right - I always know what to expect, and I know enough of what's going on, but I don't feel overwhelmed with things I need to read/keep track of. Clean and well-run --- General operations are really on point. The indoor and outdoor areas are clean and well-maintained. Routines are predictable. There are not a lot of additional expectations on parents. Drop-off and pick-up is quick and painless. And they are really on top of licensing and other compliance-related requirements. "Low-maintenance" --- The only thing this school asks of me is to deliver my kids with lunch, water bottle, and hat, and to pick them up on time. No laundry list of items they need to bring each day. No bringing extra stuff for holiday parties. No special costume days. No short-notice closures. Overall, we are thrilled with Right Start and would recommend a thousand times over it to anyone looking for a part-time preschool. read more

There's a saying, "tell me who your friends are I'll tell you who you are." Well in the case of a preschool it should go, "show me how [happy] the children are then I know how good [of a preschool] you are." Right Start Preschool was one of two schools from a long list of schools that we visited where the children were earnestly happy. What we liked about their environment is that the students are multicultural (most attendees speak two languages such as an Indian language, Russian, Spanish, etc.) and gender balanced (about the same number of boys and girls) and they maintain a very low student to teacher ratio of 6:1 or better. (Around 10-12 students and 2-3 teachers. It's a home based school so the students are in a very comfortable and familiar environment. The only difference compared to some of the larger (schools) is that they don't do field trips, but this also means we always know where our child is. Since we have her in the half day option (9am - 1pm) - she could still do other activities in the afternoon or evening if so desired. We are so happy to have found such a wonderful preschool for our 3 year old son. We decided that a smaller school with an amazingly warm and caring staff would be the best fit for our son, whom many would say is sensitive and "introverted." He has been raised solely at home until recently, and in general he needs a lot of time to warm up to new faces. At the end of week 1, my son said, "The teachers are nice. The kids are nice. Let's go back there soon." Manijeh and Hassan are patient, caring, and professional. The preschool is extremely clean and organized. There is a wide selection of toys and learning tools. The playground is safe, fun, and organized as well. Last year, we had originally planned on having our son attend at age 2 1/2, and then we decided to delay the start until age 3. This was a big decision for us, and Manijeh was extremely flexible and understanding throughout the entire process. She has shown so much empathy and kindness. The staff is also firm with the kids when they need to be, and in just a few weeks my son has become so much more self-sufficient. He is learning very quickly, and everyday he comes home saying new words and expressions, and singing new songs. We are really happy that we chose Right Start Preschool. We know how critical it is to have a good start before many more years of schooling, and we really believe that we made the best choice for our son. read more

I was working here for less than a year. I love to work there but because of the personal situation I had to leave so early. It was my first work experience in the ECE field. Manijeh and Hassan both are really good at teaching us new things each day. About the school, it's an excellent start for the 3 to 5 years old. I was very blessed to be able to work with Manijeh and Hassan! They have a great program, that will help prepare children for kindergarten and improve their development skills. They treated me like family, but was also, still professional. It was such a great experience to be working with them and in their lovely preschool. While working there, I was able to witness all the magic that happened! They are very understanding and always, accommodated to the children's needs. They have an equal balance of great activities, indoor and outdoors. They always encouraged kids to be independent, but was still very nurturing. I know, it takes a lot to leave your precious child in the hands of another person, but I can assure you that, when leaving your child in Right Start Preschool, you will not need to worry. Not only do they help and care about your child's development, they also, care about their well being. They care about your child's safety and nutrition, so that's a major plus. We were really lucky to choose Right Start Preschool as a preschool for our 3yo daughter. To begin with, the most important thing is that Manijeh and Hassan, as well as the other teachers, make their absolute best to make our little girl (and of course other children, too) happy. After more than a year of attending the preschool, our daughter never complained at anything and always happily wanted to come back the next day. The preschool is located in a private house, with a play room and a living room which the children are allowed to occupy for some activities (e.g. music lessons). The play room is small (to be comfortable for twelve kids), but is very cozy and extremely clean. The house is always full of fresh air and sun light, and it is never too hot or too cold inside. There are large varieties of toys and books sorted for different activities and children's ages. In the backyard, there is a very nice little playground, with a sandbox, a slide, a sew saw, a small wooden toy kitchen house, water play setups and other entertainments. There is also a persimmon tree which provides good shade. Our daughter loves to show us everything they have there! The children are always busy with different activities, like feeding silkworms and observing their lifecycles, watching plants growing from seeds to small pedicles with leaves, lots of handcrafting, baking, sewing, clay playing, writing, painting, learning numbers and letters, listening and playing music and so on. Basically every week they do and learn something new. Additionally, but quite importantly, I'd like to mention that everything at Right Start Preschool is very professional, organized and yet family-like. Manijeh and Hassan always offer free, very friendly advice and help for anything they notice, such as small problems in child's development, participation in birthdays, playdates, and so on. Right Start Preschool is a family based preschool that my daughter attended about a year and a half ago. It is kept very clean. Both Manijeh and Hassan are concerned with cleanliness. The children all wash their hands upon entering. Cleanliness is quite important to me as well, since my daughter was pretty young, about 3-4 years old. During the pandemic, they built an extra sink outdoors in the backyard. Manijeh and Hassan are full of love for the children. They always smile, and are able to manage different situations calmly. During the pandemic, when preschool was closed, Manijeh read stories to my daughter individually via Zoom. This helped my daughter to improve her English a lot. They are also very professional: Right Start is a mentor site approved by the California Mentor Program. They mentor college students in their student teaching practicum course. Manijeh does a great job mentoring them. There are plentiful, age appropriate toys for children. They include different activities to keep children engaged and help them learn. Manijeh even lent us a tricycle during the pandemic to keep my daughter active and happy. I recommend Right Start to friends and family. read more

We were so lucky to find this school. Teacher Manijeh is amazingly warm, pleasant and kind. She has this unflappable demeanor that puts kids at ease (and parents!). She's stern but inviting. Friendly but clearly in charge. We had reservations about an in-home daycare until we visited their home. Everything is very organized and clean. There are daily activities along with a selection of toys and puzzles for varying ages and developmental levels. The backyard is absolutely perfect- a mix of play equipment, outdoor toys, and educational activities (including gardening). It's safe, and there aren't very many kids at a time so tons of individual attention just in case. Hassan (Manijeh's husband) is also always there, and he compliments her perfectly. She's outwardly very kind and charming, but it belies a perfect sensibility for discipline and understanding of specific developmental needs. He's outwardly very stern but it hides a clever, playful intelligence. Several times when I was at the school I saw him chuckling to himself after successfully navigating an issue with one of the kids. They both clearly love what they do and it shows. There are also other teachers on busier days, one of whom our son loves so much he still talks about her every night before bed (along with Manijeh, of course). For what it's worth, our kid is a pretty introverted little oddball with a personality which only falls into the category.. "quirky." Manijeh never batted an eyelash and won him over in what seemed like moments. Even at his birthday party at a park nearby, he was very nervous and shy, alternately hiding and throwing small fits. When she showed up, he hugged her and had a good time from then on. Don't hesitate. These guys are a rare find! read more

My daughter went to this school for almost a year and we loved her stay. They are very professional, caring kids, hygienic. My daughter never got cold from school, as I have heard from most of parents "Got it from daycare". As they mention, Obviously their standards are higher than montessori. My daughter learnt a lot in this preschool, including very good manners. My little one started going to Montessori from past couple of months and they found her standards high and she is moved to pre-K, she is just 3 and half. We were with the Right start family for a year and seen my kid grow up in a safe, positive and productive environment . Manijeh is warm, enthusiastic, caring and accessible. The school is very clean with both clean air and water. Indoor they have lots of stuff including art materials, toys, puzzles, books which provides kids opportunity for discovery, creativity and problem solving. The school also has other teachers who are very supportive and attentive.It also has a lovely backyard for outdoor playing surrounded by nature where kids spend ample time exploring rocks and bugs, or even just playing games outdoors with friends. Our 3 year old has been at Right Start Preschool for the past year and a half and we are extremely happy with our experience there. Manijeh and her family care deeply about the children. Kids are taught to be kind to each other and learn good manners, they do many artistic projects (techniques are very creative and change all the time) and academic activities during the week. Each morning there is circle time which includes the reading of books, singing and dancing, and then kids spend time outside both in the morning and afternoon. They have a great backyard and deck devoted to the kids, where the children are always doing new and fun activities, plus the kids' tricycles that our son loves. We would definitely recommend this preschool to other parents. read more
