My family was craving Mexican food after a hike-filled day in Big Sur so we decided to check out Los Amigos after looking up recs on Yelp! The restaurant is located in downtown Pacific Grove which seemed to be a lively area. There is limited parking in front of and behind the restaurant. When we arrived around 8:15pm, the restaurant was winding down so not too crowded. We ordered family style: veggie chimichanga, veggie burrito, veggie fajitas, and churro. We enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa! Note for vegetarians/vegans: the rice is cooked with chicken stock so we requested our meals without it. All the dishes were tasty! The ingredients were very fresh. My family appreciated how there were plenty of vegetables (including cauliflower which is not very common!). Generous portion sizes. The veggie fajitas was huge and came with lots of sides! My personal favorite was the chimichanga - thought it had the most flavor and I liked the guacamole, sour cream, and pick de gallo on top. The churros were delicious! I liked how they were filled with Dulce de leche and also how it came with vanilla ice cream (which was amazing!). The churro itself was a little savory which contrasted nicely with the ice cream. I would definitely recommend Los Amigos. Flavorful food, good bang for buck, and friendly customer service. When we told the waiter about our vegetarian dietary restriction, he gave us a heads up about the rice and appropriately gave us suggestions from the menu. Food came out fairly quick. I normally don't leave negative reviews, but I was really disappointed with my first experience here at this place. While eating my food, I found a small knotted hairball embedded into my food. It completely ruined my appetite and made me uncomfortable finishing the meal. What bothered me even more was that when I brought it to their attention, there wasn't even an apology for it happening. Cleanliness and customer service are really important when serving customers, so I hope the restaurant takes this seriously and improves their food handling and how they respond to situations like this. read more

Great service but Amazing food. I eat Huevos Rancheros every where I go. This has to be the best I've ever had. The corn tortilla underneath was crispy not mushy, the eggs were cooked perfect, no runny whites and the sauce over the eggs was so rich. Also, killer salsa. I recently moved to Pacific Grove from Monterey and decided to try a new Mexican restaurant. I ordered a Chile Relleno, which was delicious. My roommate ordered the El Jefe Super Grande Burrito. It looked so good that I ordered it with shredded chicken the next day. Hands down, the BEST burrito I have ever had in my life. The shredded chicken was so tender and flavorful, the enchilada sauce was the most unique I have ever had and I thoroughly enjoyed every last bite. Cute little place at the back of a parking lot. Spacious and they do have a tv above the bar to watch games and such. Ordered quite a bit for dinner and lunch the next day. Cheese fries are a good little snack. Come with tons of catch up so if that's not your thing say so. Flautas come with a bunch of sour cream so also say something if that's not your thing. Tamales are good but they don't come with rice or beans and they do come completely drenched in sauce. The chicken with red sauce was far more flavorful than the pork with green sauce. Agua frescas are apparently mixed as one of us asked for jimaica and the other tamarindo and we got the same thing. Super burrito is bursting out of the tortilla and i specifically asked for everything but sour cream sooooo good. Guacamole is fresh! The chips and salsa that comes with ordering are extra yummy. Perfectly light and clean fried chips.... And that salsa **drool** huge fan! Service is fast, so make sure you order with and without the things you like. This is my go-to Mexican spot in Pacific Grove. This family owned restaurant has an expansive menu of various Mexican dishes and staples. My favorite items to get are the daily Mexican soups and menudo that is served on the weekends. The menudo uses honeycomb tripe which is soft and fluffy rather than the prickly and chewy kind of tripe. They give you generous helpings of hominy and all the various seasonings and onions and cilantro to custom your cup. Menudo is not just great for hangovers but a good low calorie soup with lots of vitamins and minerals. Try it! I wish they made the pozole everyday but they sometimes make it with chicken or pork. I like both varieties but have been favoring the chicken pozole a tad more. Since PG gets some so much fog and is pretty mild and chilly usually, the soups are an excellent idea. I also like the albondigas (or meatball) soup. My other faves are the chicken flautas appetizer, grilled artichokes, shrimp cocktail, and the nachos con todo. One critique is I find the chips a tad salty but I eat them anyway. And depending on the cook that day, the same item may be assembled slightly differently than the previous day. For instance, when ordering the flautas one time they provided a heaping side of guacamole and this diced onion Pico de gallo mixture along with sour cream and queso fresco but other times I've not had that extra pico. Service is always friendly and fast. Parking is easy in the parking lot or behind Safeway. read more

This place is located in the very back of a cul-de-sac that houses a lot of other restaurant options. Inside is small but comfortable and the staff are really friendly. We were told to seat ourselves and there were three other groups in the restaurant during our visit. Everyone is really short staffed right now so service takes a bit of time to get to you. After ordering, there is also a bit of a wait for food to come out. Luckily, they offer complementary chips and salsa so you have some snacks to munch on while you wait for your entrées and your appetizer. The flautas were really fresh and made for a fantastic appetizer. 10/10 would recommend. When our burritos were delivered, they were delivered to the incorrect person which caused a bit of confusion between my buddy and I, as we took some large bites out of the ends of our burritos, and then realized that we were eating each other's food. Haha, whoops! Having been able to try the chipotle burrito as well as a Carne Asada burrito, I can say that I recommend both but the chipotle burrito is definitely better because if the added salsas/chipotle sauce. Their menus on their website are outdated so make sure you check here on yelp for updated offerings. I went in with a group of 10 people (3 families) traveling together for a week. Our service was very slow and not attentive. When the bill came, it was handed to someone (not me). We divided it among 3 credit cards. Since the bill was handed to one person, I tipped on my portion. It turns out there was already a 22% tip. The server never mentioned this. So basically we tipped 20% on the amount on each (tipping on the amount that included tip). I contrast that with the next dinner we had at another restaurant in which my portion of the bill had a line for additional gratuity. The next restaurant after that, the server wrote in on my portion of the bill what the service fee charged was. The next restaurant, the server explicitly stated to us the situation regarding the gratuity. I feel this situation at Lost Amigos was unreasonable and unethical. A server must know we don't intent to tip nearly 50% of the bill. read more

Los Amigos is a great family-friendly, local, American style Mexican restaurant. There's several two person tables out front, as well as plenty of seating for larger groups inside. The atmosphere is casual with Mexican decorations adorning the walls. We brought our two year old to dinner and the staff was super accommodating. Clearly, several of the servers were mothers as well, because they seemed to read our minds throughout the meal - knowing when we needed to hit the gas before our kiddo lost her patience, and brining a spoon for her without our even asking for example. The food was delicious and served hot. We had cheese enchiladas with mole sauce, and Chile rellanos. It appeared they only have a beer and wine license, so there were no mixed drinks available. The margarita was a wine marg and tasted fine, but lacked the bite of a tequila marg. Overall, it's a great neighborhood Mexican restaurant for a casual meal with friends or family. read more
